Retro-solutions 55w, H11 kit received.
ablb replied to Hurtman's topic in Interior, A.C., Heat, Interior Trim
Hope you have better luck with your Silverstars than I have. I average burning one out every 12 to 18 months; maybe the Ultras will have a longer life. AND YES I do not touch the quartz. I do like them , running one in my motorcycle. It’s kind of scary, only 1 headlight! A friend gave up on them, in his Land Cruiser. And now :backtotopic: I just ordered some 6000K 55W for the MKX, Thinking about some for the motorcycles. ab -
Greetings Ours is an 08 we’ve had 1 warranty claim. The left rear shock started making a squawk at about 17K miles, now the right rear is starting to squawk a little at 26K. There are a couple of upgrades you might want to look at if you are a DIYer. This one is a no-brainer, but you need to contact Retro because there is a difference between the Edge and MKX. Be sure to order the 55w system and the color of your choice. I’m ordering the 5 or 6000k (because we didn’t buy the MKX at Kmart (BLUE light special)) depending on what Retro suggests. Here’s the link or go to the Group Buys page. http://www.fordedgeforum.com/index.php?showtopic=2045 The second upgrade is a little controversial, unless you’re 5’5” tall. We installed the Integrated Blind Spot Mirrors for a 09 Edge because Lincoln didn’t have the blind spot mirror until the 10’s came out. Here’s the link, there is a lot to read. http://www.fordedgeforum.com/index.php?sho...lind+spot\ ab

Almost sounds like an urban legend. Latest statistics show burglaries are down, because everybody is home, NO JOBS!! In this state we only carry proof of insurance, it does have our address. But the car thieves are either high or illiterate so paper work is not very high on their list. I can’t remember the last car we had that didn’t have a built in door opener. HOWEVER we do carry our sons’ door opener now that would really be a joke on your crook. :beerchug: ab

Go measure how wide YOUR wheel is then go measure how DEEP your spare well is. I have a question. I have friend who is always griping about space saver spares, I don’t ask why. Why do you want a full size spare? I find them a PAIN. Example: The tires on my F250 are 9/10 gone. I ran over a piece of scrap metal and had to put the “new” spare on the ground. Now I have 1 (3 yr old) “new” and 3 9/10 wore out tires. I don’t want to buy 3 NEW OEM tires this winter, because I would have 1 new/old and 3 NEW that I don’t really like anyway. ab

Recommendations for replacement pads and rotors
ablb replied to Slurp's topic in Brakes, Chassis & Suspension
Before you spend all those $'s you need to figure out WHY your rear brakes wore out at 48K. GENERALLY the rear should last ABOUT twice as long as the front. One thing you can check. Get a friend to follow you to see if your brake light is on some/most of the time or flashes for a few seconds every few seconds. ab -

Re-Programming Edge for Differant things...
ablb replied to modette99's topic in Interior, A.C., Heat, Interior Trim
I'm waiting on bbf or lex to post the "not "secret codes" " location. I did read the manual. https://www.fleet.ford.com/maintenance/owne...als/results.asp NOTE: modette99 hasn't been back, wonder why etc. ab -
Re-Programming Edge for Differant things...
ablb replied to modette99's topic in Interior, A.C., Heat, Interior Trim
“Like on my 2005 Focus ST, I can program the doors to unlock with one push of the remote button, I know this works on the Edge as I just did it. For those that do not know, lock the car, wait for the autolights to go off, then hold down the lock and unlock remote buttons at the same time till the tail lights flash...now you are reprogrammed for one press unlocking for all doors at once :-) “ Great find, I’m always pushing the button multiple times to get it unlocked (probably pushing too quick) I looked in the manual but couldn't find the “not "secret codes"."? Anyway reprogramming complete NOW if I could find the “not "secret codes" " for my 05 F250 I would reprogram it. ab -
Integrated Blind Spot Mirrors
ablb replied to bri719's topic in Glass, Lenses, Lighting, Mirrors, Sunroof (BAMR), Wipers
This argument could easily be resolved if someone would post a link to the professional site where the testing was done to PROVE/DISPROVE that the EDGE/MKX does/does not HAVE a blind spot. Until then I’ll testify that my mirrors ARE adjusted properly BUT I do have a blind spot. It’s located from about 5’ off the bumper to about the rear door. I checked my mirror yesterday looked over my shoulder (YEP still see nothing but the post). BUT I COULD NOT SEE that Firebird hiding beside me. I didn’t hit him but he decided it was time to move on when I put my tires on the stripe. ab -

ablb replied to BlazedUp's topic in Recalls, TSBs & Warranty
Learn something new everyday...Ours must be broke too. But it does ding ding ding when we hit the close button. ab -
We (learned to ) open the door a little wider when we (I) get out. ab

I wonder if the clicking is coming from the Ford hub cap? Our 08 MKX with 25+K miles has had NO problems with the chrome clad wheels (I don't like them but they are problem free). ab
-
Sorry but they arn't "thinly coated in aluminum clad " they are thinly coated PLASTIC . I don't do anything to ours but wash and kick them, looking for an excuse to dump them for some REAL wheels. ab

'09 Mirrors on an '08
ablb replied to PrinzII's topic in Glass, Lenses, Lighting, Mirrors, Sunroof (BAMR), Wipers
good job thanks ab -
That Hankook is 1.18" wider than our 245/50/20 Pirelli OEM. Be sure to check for rubbing, and then check it again with the suspension compressed. Let us know if they fit. I like them and will be looking next spring also will be looking at new rims, these 20" hub caps have got to GO! ab

'09 Mirrors on an '08
ablb replied to PrinzII's topic in Glass, Lenses, Lighting, Mirrors, Sunroof (BAMR), Wipers
This is a link to the mirror I put on our 08 MKX. http://www.amazon.com/Ford-9T4Z-17K707-D-G...03&sr=1-252 $68.98 @ Amazon + shipping = $80.98 to my zip, I paid $74.98 + tax = $81.17 at my Ford dealer. 9T4Z-17K707-D-GLASS-ASY-REAR The D is the important digit; it’s for a heated powered mirror. I haven’t checked any 2010 MKX’s to see if they have the blind spot mirror. From the original thread and mentioned above. The easiest way to figure out which mirror you need is to visit your Ford dealer, get the vin from an Edge with the same mirror (except for the blind spot) you have, then take that vin to the parts dept and order a mirror for THAT Edge. ab -
BRAND NEW EDGE LTD AWD 2009 Headlight brightness, Any help?
ablb replied to arcsalisu's topic in Welcome Forum!
Greetings and Thanks for bringing this up, I haven’t checked on Sliverstars lately. Looks like Sylvania has finally started making them for the Edge/MKX. The H11ST and 9005ST are much brighter and whiter than OEM bulbs. I’ll be visiting my local auto supply soon. Here’s a link to Sylvania. http://www.sylvania.com/ConsumerProducts/A...LRG-Results.htm Or check out this link for a HID conversion. http://www.fordedgeforum.com/index.php?showtopic=2876 ab -

"So she went to the dealer, and they had no idea what she was talking about, were fairly rude, and told her they'd need the vehicle for at least a couple hours, and couldn't do it today." Not bashing you but lets take 180* look at your situation. I have a structured day I come to work and I have 8 planned hours lying on my desk. About once a week a nurse or Dr. will come by and have a “problem that will only take a few minutes.” We have an established published procedure for resolving these problems BUT “I’m special and demand special treatment”. I learned the hard way that some of these problems take 2 maybe 4 hours even multiple techs to resolve. Here’s another 180* point of view. I call and make an appointment to have our MKX serviced, when I walk in there is one of my nurses standing there demanding to have hers worked on RIGHT NOW!! Sorry if I stepped on your toes but please no cutting in line and please take a #. ab

Pay a visit to a local CUSTOM muffler shop, that HUGE stock cat back will have to go. Probably end up with a true dual exhaust running down the sides with mufflers located in front of the wheels. Like this http://www.louscustomexhaust.com/ should cost a few hundred $'s Then get a spare tire set-up of off something like a F150. like this. http://www.forddirectonline.com/partlocato...amp;catalogid=2 Be sure to measure twice, maybe 3 times and don't forget to measure how far DOWN the spare will hang. ab

Don't walk away...RUN AWAY! You MIGHT need to have your rotors turned IF You live in the mountains You drive with your left foot on the brake You park on the 10 floor of your parking garage. I recently had an event with a "service shop". My F250 need some front end work, the estimate was for OVER $600.00. Took it to a KNOWN REPUTABLE "service shop" 90 bucks later it drives like a new one!!! ab
