  1. I checked the gap on the side of the cover and it's pretty tight. Yes, I could get my finger by if I wanted to, but it seems to ride in the track kinda of loosely, but efficiently. You should have the dealer check it out if it keeps jamming.

    MPG??????

I've been getting about 18 MPG in town with some mixed highway use. While on a 2.5 hr. highway trip at 70 - 80 MPH I got approx. 22 mpg. I reset the computer just as I got on the entrance ramp at 70 MPH and for a few seconds it read like 48 MPG and then started ticking down real fast. Oh-well, it was nice to see for a moment.
  3. I haven't had any jams at all. To tell you the truth the shade is hardly ever closed though. I figure if you got it, use it. ^_^
  4. For now I'll keep the stock speakers. I've found that stock speakers sound good for a while but quickly loose their kick and clarity due to inferior quality. For now the system really sounds great so I'll leave it as is, but I'll definitely upgrade them over time.
  5. Edgy Girl is correct. The left side of the cargo area has a small storage area/shelf, and the right side is a grilled sub-woofer. The stock DVD Audiophile system in my Edge sounds great!
  6. I agree with DJ, I have to turn my seats heat down to the lower seating within 5 minutes or I'll start to roast my rump. :P Have them checked out, or do a quick compare with another edge. Perhaps a quick stop in at the dealer showroom will save time waiting in service.
  7. JIMMERZ; The factory headrest comes out easily enough. Just pry out the side plastic covers at the base of the headrest and it's out. The DVD headrests come with a wire harness on each poles that serves seperate functions. One is for the power and video out, and the other is for video in. After the units are installed, the wire leads are long enough to extend out from the seat bottom to make your connections to the fused power unit. It was easier for me to start at the top (headrest holes) and by using an electrical snake (hard steel wire for pulling electrical wires) I fished it down the seat and out the bottom area. I then pulled up the proper harness wire after taping it to the snake. After doing this four times (once for each headrest pole) the DVD headrest just slides right in. I snaked the wires from one unit under the arm rest and under the other seat were I made the connections, and then hard wired it into the vehicle to have power when the vehicle is running only. The only thing I had to purchase besides the headrests were 6 RCA "male to male" junction plugs. The video in and out cables are both RCA "female" plugs and in order to connect them the "male to male" adapter plugs were needed. After testing the seat wire harness I found an appropriate 12v source for the units. (Always use a digital multi-meter to test wires, not a dummy light) Upon connecting the positive and negative wires, the install was done. I kept the wires under the passenger seat out of harms way. If you were to take some additional time; which I might do someday, I believe that the center arm rest can be removed or partially removed in order to store all the wires without a fear of them getting damaged from the power seats. All in all, it is not difficult. I have done many electrical upgrades in vehicles and this one was very easy and took a relatively short period of time. After our recent trip to the Jersey shore from NY, my two kids (7 & 9) were extremely quite during the 2 1/2 ride each way. (using the wireless headphones.) In my opinion, it was well worth the time and money! :P
  8. Donna, I have a charcoal interior with bammer just likr=e the picture you posted. My roof liner and pillars are that "tan" color, but I actually don't mind it. I think if everything was charcoal it would get a little gloomy inside.
  9. On a separate, but related issue, I have a SEl Plus with the automatic dimming rear view mirror. Their is an extra wire harness that is not being used at the mirror. Does anyone know what this harness is for?
  10. Yes, the yellow light penetrates better. The white light will bounce back. Try driving with your high beams on in fog and you'll see what I mean.
  11. Yes, the DVD headrest units run independent of the factory dvd stereo unit. My headrests don't display a Ford logo on the screen, but then again, the back seat passengers are more interested in watching a movie or listening to a cd. I debated on a top load unit but since I have kids, I decided to get these because they can actually reach the area to install the DVD without removing their seatbelts. There are side loading DVD headrests, but I thought that the side pillar on the passenger side would interfere. (both headrests would load on the right side) The way I look at it, $329.00 + shipping and 30 minutes of my time to install them is a lot better than $1,600.00 or so from the dealer. Besides, I'm a hands on guy and get a certain satisfaction and pride in doing things myself.
  12. My interior is charcoal (black) and I have no sun glare from the dash. I do however at times get a reflection from the silver trip that goes around the rubber tray area on top of the dash. I might just take it out one day and paint it black to blend in better.
  13. I ordered the DVD headrest units through a seller on Ebay for $329.00 + shipping. I was looking into getting them before my edge was delivered, and I'm glad that I waited to actually see my interior color. I have a charcoal leather interior so I thought that I was going to order a grey headrest. Thankfully I waited and I ordered black headrests which match the existing leather seats perfectly. I actually like these headrests better because the top of the stock headrest leaned forward towards my head, and I didn't find that comfortable. Some of my friends have seen my headrests and they did not know that it was aftermarket. They fit perfect and the color match is great. Heres the Ebay link for the headrest. They shipped directly from Hong Kong and I got them in 3 days to NY. ^_^ http://cgi.ebay.com/7-HEADREST-PILLOW-LCD-...8QQcmdZViewItem
  14. GT475, You can connect a disarm wire from the alarm unit to the factory wire harness or you can leave it out. The factory alarm essentially works with the ignition key, therefore it is not affected by the aftermarket alarm. The keyless entry pad still works, but of course if you open the door that way the alarm will sound after it gives you several chirps warning to disarm. I would only use the entry pad if I accidentally locked my keys inside. The Edge does need an additional box wired into the alarm. You need to put your spare key that inside the box so that it is electronically read when you remote start the vehicle. You then use your other key with the fob built in to start the car normally so that the vehicle reads the security sensor in it. This being said, you can start the vehicle with a standard cut key that does not have the pass sensor. Some people will take the key apart and take out the sensor and mount it inside of the steering column close enough to the ignition sensor ring. If you do this, you can use a standard key, but you are also disabling the factory alarm by always sending the security signal to the ignition. (makes it easier to steal the car)
  15. I basically did the exact light bulb change that Ug.mac except that I have the super white bulbs in the high beams and Ug.mac was planning on installing the golden yellow in the high beams. (Custom Look) Check this link for his summary of what was done. http://www.fordedgeforum.com/index.php?showtopic=262 I thinks it not only looks better, but the range at night is better with the same 55 watt consumption. ^_^ I tried uploading my headlight photos but I keep getting an error that doesn't allow me to upload. My previous upload was 469k and now I can only upload 31k. (too small of a picture) If anyone knows how to get around this, let me know and I'll try again.
  16. I recently installed a Hornet 564T 2- way LCD display model. Hornet is the same as Viper, their both from the same manufacturer. The unit does the remote start, starter cut-out, 2 stage shock sensing, door locks, dome light, etc... (all the bells & whistles) The range of the remote is approx. 1000' which is much farther than the stock key fob. Dealers that offer remote start in house end up bringing in a local car alarm shop to do the work and you pay more. The alarm I have has approx. 30 options for your to turn on or off through programing with the valet & remote. I payed $150.00 for the unit off the shelf. An average alarm shop (here in NY) will charge you about $450.00 for the alarm installed. Well worth it in my opinion. Good Luck.
  17. Well, after my first week with my new Edge I've been able to add some updates. Started with tinting the front side windows with 20% to match rear windows, 5% band on front windshield. Installed a 2-way remote start alarm system, updated the headlights and fog lights with MTEC bulbs. I installed the same set-up that Ug.mac did on his edge, super whites for the low beams, golden yellow for the fog lights, and waiting on delivery of the super white high beam bulbs. (thanks Ug.mac for your help) The most recent change has been the installation of DVD headrest units with wireless headphones for both units. You have the ability watch independent movies at the same time, or both units can show the same movie at the same time. You can also hear the movie through the cars stereo by tuning into a preset FM radio frequency. Below is a photo of headrests (Playing Star Wars and Spiderman independently)

    MPG??????

Well I got my Edge delivery on Saturday. (AWD SEL plus w/ 18") Since I have been carefully reading posts on mileage, I checked the MPG reading on the car with only 3 miles on it. The reading was 3 MPG. As of today I have only driven approximately 250 miles, and the car is showing 13MPG. Not being to accurate with the miles, I drove approximately 150 highway miles (70 mph avg.), and 100 miles around town (40 mph avg.) I'm not sure what to make of the starting reading of 3 MPG when I picked up the vehicle. On the next tank I will calculate it myself. I did notice in the owners manual that the reading could be affected by the vehicles levelness when filling the tank. Probably not much difference though. Check out the below link that I read today on MSN. They explain how the ratings are calculated by the manufacturers. The process for calculating the MPG rating is no where similar to the actual driving that real people do. Heck, they don't even use gas in the tank! As others have stated, I didn't buy the Edge based on it being a fuel saving vehicle, but I would be happier at around 18-20 MPG since I also have a 200 F150 4x4 4.6 liter that probably averages 16-18 MPG. Anyhow, heres the link regarding gas mileage: http://autos.msn.com/advice/article.aspx?contentid=4023628
  19. Jrod, I'm sorry to hear the bad news. You seem to be a great guy, and a great ford employee. I'm not sure what your status will be with Ford in the future, but for now it certainly is their lose. Best of luck with work, and at least we'll still hear from you on the thread.
  20. Jrod, mind checking mine again? I'm hoping for a build this week. VIN 2FMDK49C97BA78670 Thanks.
  21. I feel terrible for the Ford employees that are going through these tough times. I have been in this position myself in the past and I know that at times it seems overwhelming that the company you thought of as an extended family, no longer wants you around. I worked for the same employer for 13 years in management for a construction firm. My contribution to the company was what I thought, tremendous. Needless to say, things became unstable and I opted to go out on my own and start my own construction firm. That was the toughest time of my personal & professional life, but now it has come to be the best thing for me. My father retired from Ford after 25+ years on the assembly line in NJ when they closed the plant. I wish all of those at Ford going through these tough times, the best of luck, and sometimes things do work out for the best.
  22. I'm not sure if an order from December would still be on hold for chromes if I placed my order 1/22/07 and my Blend date is 2/22/07. I expect the vehicle to be built very soon. As a matter of fact I called Customer care today and they gave me a delivery date of March 5th. I have the chrome 18's and I would hope that their is no delay. I definitely get better updates and info on this board than from my dealer. (those guys don't seem to know whats going on in the factory) Ford ZM: Whats this about people leaving or fired on Wednesday?
  23. I wouldn't hold my breath for a refinance. I'm glad my Edge is being built, therefor when it comes in I get the lowered rates. :P
  24. CRZ: Do you know if the HID replacement kit that your thinking of using will produce an excessive amount of heat? Can it possibly harm the stock headlight housing? I've been debating on doing this kit or an upgrade to 4350k super white Mtec halogens
  25. UG, I have seen these type of light bulbs upgraded in person and they seem to be much brighter with a sharper, less diffused pattern. We have done a side by side replacement with the factory bulb like you have with the headlights about 15' - 20' away from a white painted wall and you can definitely see the difference. I like the idea of the highs in yellow. Kind of different. Wouldn't mind seeing pics of that either. Have you switched out the high beams yet?, and are the high beams also H11 style? Also; the package says 12v 55W and below that it says 100W. Are they rated at 55W but putting out an equivalence of 100W? (like the rating comparison on a florescent)
