  1. No, the PTU is still there. Not sure why you got that from that thread. They have revised it over the years, but it's still there, and still a problem. It's at least serviceable with a drain plug though, which is key. The older ones had no drain plugs and Ford said they were "good for life", which was a complete joke.
  2. I always decline all extended warranties and take my chances. If you try to pick and choose you will never pick right. The 2.0L EB is a reliable engine and I've not heard of any common transmission failures. A steering rack is kinda pricey, but it can be done a lot cheaper than people who quote dealer prices for it. If it's AWD, the PTUs are a problem and do fail at high rates, although your 2016 should have a drain plug and simply changing the fluid every 30K miles or so avoids nearly all issues with them.
  3. There are F150s that come with 22 inch wheels as well. The 12mm lugs have not been on a F150 for nearly 20 years now. They switched in 2000 to the 14 mm studs.
  4. Torque values are determined by how much torque it takes to stretch a bolt or stud the correct amount needed to provide the proper clamp load. It's that simple for every single fastener on the entire vehicle. If you don't torque it enough, there's not enough stretch and not enough clamp load. Torque values will vary based on the type of steel used and the diameter of the bolt/stud. So the lugs on the Edge are likely a larger diameter, a stronger steel (or both) compared to the F150 you have. I'd bet the F150 you have has 12mm studs, where as the Edge has 14 mm studs. F150s from 2009+ have 14 mm and call for 150 ft-lbs. As to why 150 ft-lbs is good enough for the 14mm truck lugs but the Edge calls for 162 ft-lbs, it does seem odd since they are the same diameter and thread pitch lugs. However the F150 has 6 lugs vs the Edge's 5 lugs. You'd have to go to 180 ft-lbs on 5 lugs to get the same total clamp load as 150 ft-lbs on 6 lugs. That'd likely put the lug close to plastic deformation, IE failure, so they took it as high as possible without getting too close to the limit. So the Edge has less total clamp force than recent F150s, as you would expect, even with it's higher lug nut torque rating. As to why the current F150s and the newer Edges have such a higher clamp load than the older 12mm lug Ford vehicles- I'm not sure, but I'd guess it has to do with NVH, braking and crash testing. Total guess- a Ford engineer would have to tell you that.
  5. Did some more looking on the brakes- it looks like the parts total up to $1000. Probably will just keep the standard setup and paint them black at the first brake job or tire rotation. Keeping bright red calipers and brackets clean would be a bitch.
  6. There's not really any soot with a gas powered car with cats on it.
  7. We just bought a 2019 ST and we drove some 2018 Sports when we were looking. I agree on the handling, the ST is noticeably better handling than the Sport, but the ride is not as nice either. It's all a trade off. I like the seats as well, my wife loves them. They both seemed to accelerate about the same, we couldn't tell any difference. Wasn't too keen on the 15-18s having major issues with the rear lights leaking, and they are not cheap to replace. Do you guys know if the the Sports got water cooled PTUs like the ST has? I was leary of the Ford FWD/AWD setup in the past due to all the issues with PTUs, but being water cooled makes a huge difference in the longevity of the lube. I think they all have drain plugs now too, is that correct? Need to get it up on ramps and crawl under this thing. Since I'm asking- the brake upgrade package. As far as I can tell it's a bigger rotor/ventilated backing plate/performance pads up front, and the red calipers all around (plus the summer tires). Looks like I can get the rotors for $120 and the calipers for around $400. Seems like a deal compared to what Ford wants for it. Thinking I might buy the parts now while they are cheap and swap them over when I get the time.
  8. Yep, pay someone who is good at PDR- it's worth the money.
  9. I'll look tonight, but I don't think that is the case with the Edge ST. It looks like the pipes just end in the "tips" that are part of the bumper. I think the further back the pipe is the better, since you can't see the end of the pipe that way.
  10. Well, our garages look even more similar now. Traded our 2010 Sport for a 2019 ST recently.
  11. I paint the brackets/calipers on all my daily driver cars and trucks with Rustoluem Pro Satin black spray paint when I do brake jobs. It never flakes off. I might touch it up if needed when I rotate tires. Works great, looks great, and is both cheap and easy. Got an 03 Cobra in my garage too No spray paint for that one. Still has all stock brakes with only 18K miles on it.
  12. The civil engineer failed to provide an emergency flood route. There should always be a way for the water to go overland if the pipe/inlet gets clogged- at least where cars are being parked.
  13. Yep, the keypad will still work the same whether the fob is in the car or not.
  14. Fords are all metric and have been for a long time.
  15. If your Sync system does what you need it to- don't mess with it. That's my advice on it.
  16. I just bought some plastic plugs from Home Depot and stuck them in the two holes that were on ours. I was going to paint them to match, but it looks fine as is. Black plugs on red. With 4 holes, I'd probably paint them. $28 for some painted plastic plugs seems more than pricey to me.
  17. Are your tires all the same size / tread depth?
  18. I replaced the buttons in my F150, which look identical to the buttons in our '10 Edge. Not sure what yours look like. On mine, I pulled the airbag, which was easy, then pried out the old buttons, which was difficult to do without jacking up the steering wheel. I used a plastic pry tool to get it started, then used the pry tool as a backer to pry against once it stated to move.
  19. No not sure. No dealer was named though, everything just said Ford.
  20. We went the the Auto Expo when it was in town this winter. Ford was completely out of brochures early on a Saturday. They need to get their shit together.
  21. It's the same assembly. One part contains the heater/cooler peltier device (TED or TEC), the fan and the ducting. It looks like this.
  22. About time. Saab had "night mode" gauges 20 years ago. Everything went off except for the speedo. As you went faster, more of it would illuminate.
  23. Gonna be a lot easier to do it all with a machine, but doing it by hand is a good workout. Glad you are getting it cleaned up.
  24. Ford should quit living in the 20th century and just default to black for all trim on their vehicles. Let the old men and woman pay extra for a chrome package.
