H&R install ~3 hours, tips and tricks
IWRBB replied to IXIVI's topic in Brakes, Chassis & Suspension
Cut springs? People do it all the time on all types of vehicles. The only issue you may have is if the H&R's are coiled "non-standard" at the end. Meaning the coils get tight and close together at the ends instead of a uniform coil spacing/progression. You may have to grind a flat top/bottom back onto the last coil as well depending on how the coil spring sits on the strut. Cutting the spring will increase the spring rate as well, so cut as little as possible to get the drop you are after. -

Cut a half coil off the front springs. If you want it lower, cut another 1/2 coil. -

Everything that's not red on this thing is gloss black. Door trim, all the tinted windows, the entire roof. I saw what the matte/flat black grille looked like when I did have the Plastidip on there, and it just wasn't right for this particular vehicle color combo. The matte/flat black matched nothing on the car. In your case, a matte black grill in the middle of a bunch of gloss black paint works, it's an accent that helps break up all that surrounding gloss black. The pictures really don't do it justice, they are from my cell phone and have been re-sized/processed by the forum. If you saw it in person, you'd know the gloss black is the right choice for this particular setup since it ties all the other gloss black together.

Plastidip is OK if you can get the finish right. You need a heavy coat to get a smooth finish, but it's easy to get runs with that wet of a coat. My wife just got back from a 1500 mile trip to NC and back. Took the Edge up to spray the bugs off at the spray bay and the grille looks perfect. No chips, cracks, or flaking.

You guys have a first year vehicle. There will be problems. I bought a 2010 for a reason, they generally have most of the issues worked out by the last model year, then they design a new one that has all kind of new flaws, that'll all be corrected by the time their are getting to replace it with anotherner new model with new issues, and so on and and so forth. It's not just Ford- all makes have issues with new designs. You get to bleed a little when you get the bleeding edge of an automakers products. Not only are you guys first year, most are probably from the first production runs as well.

www.f150forum.com/f118 It's stickied at the top of the forum, 51 pages long. Page #3, Post #23 has the pictures of the problem. Being that both are new for 2015 models, I wouldn;t doubt they have the exact same parts, with the exact same problems.

Lots of 2015 F150s have the problem. So many, that a lot of people thought only the seat bottom was cooled. Dealers also stated it was normal because so many others on their lots had the same problem they thought it actually WAS normal. I'd have the dealer pull the seat and open it up to find out what's wrong if you want to buy that particular Edge. If they want to sell it, I'd think they could spare an hour worth of labor to make the sale. it has to be a simple fix if the majority work fine.

The 2015 F150s are having the same problem. Since Ford and the dealers give the "it's normal" response- one guy finally sucked it up and pulled back the seat covering to see what the issue was. He had a duct that was not properly connected. One zip tie fixed it up. The F150s also have the issue of the heat (when on cooling mode) not being properly vented out and under the seat like the earlier models did so- but that's just a design flaw. Sounds like the Edge cooled seats work fine normally, so they probably duct the removed heat under the seat. You can access the seat back pretty easily if Ford won't fix it. It should just have a "z" shaped plastic slot/groove that you separate at the bottom of the seat. Roll the seat cover up up until you have access. You may need to pull/reinstall some hog rings in front to get the cover high enough to see what's going on.

I didn't get pics of every step, but you get the idea. Primer: Sanded Primer: Color Coat: Sanded Color Coat: Cleared, sanded, up to rubbing compound stage. Still hazy. Before: After: The plastidip I peeled off:
