What have you done to/with your Edge/MKX today?
WingNut replied to WWWPerfA_ZN0W's topic in Accessories & Modifications
Which dash cam did you go with? I'm beginning to think this is mandatory these days. -
I use mine all the time. I'll just toss the key in the center console so I don't have to carry it around if I'm worried about losing the key. I like the idea of storing the 2nd key inside wrapped in foil. Can we program a 3rd FOB? If so, how easy is it?

I'm averaging just above 20mpg. My driving is 99% 'city'.

18 month Update. 13k Miles. Still really love the Edge. The power, handling, and solid feel of this vehicle impresses me. I love how quiet the interior is and how the materials feel. Feels more like a Lincoln in some aspects...or how Lincoln used to be. I've used it for hauling a few canoes/kayak. I've used it to haul a lot of stuff (No trailer..interior only). I've taken long trips in it. I've driven it in heavy snow/rain storms. It has always performed very well. My only complaint is the little rattles that pop up. Wish they'd work those out.

If you really want to feel the 2.7, shit to Sport mode (if the MKX has it) and you won't be able to NOT feel it.
-
That 2.7 does really feel great when in Sport mode. But take your time and make sure you get yourself in the right one. So far I'm happy with my '15 Sport. The only negatives are a few rattles/squeaks I need to trace down. But beside that, the Edge has been a great vehicle for me.

But there is no way to gauge depreciation and the used car market 3 years away. So buying with the possibility of trading it in or selling 3 years down the road is just rolling the dice that the depreciation hit will be less than the cost of a lease. Given your mileage meets the lease terms, etc.

I don't think he means a lemon like we are thinking about. I think he means a car that has a lot of little issues that seem to pop up but aren't putting it in to the category of 'lemon' by law. Or it goes through tires like crazy. Or squeaks and rattles pop up. And he is just not happy after 3 years. Then he can unload it without having to worry about losing $$ in trade-in or selling outright. Or he ends up in a car that everyone knows has these issues so they avoid buying them used. Really it is just a way to mitigate the risk. This is exactly why I leased this time around too. I wasn't sure if I'd want the Edge for a long period of time.....or if I even wanted a SUV. So i'll try it out for 3 years and at the end, make a decision. If I decide I want the Edge still, I'll then weigh my options. Buy outright based on pre-defined price, buy another used one at a better price, buy a new one, or lease a new one.

50% of MSRP?
-
yes you can special order a vehicle you want to Lease. But be aware you will only get the deals/specials/rates that are available at the time of delivery. I would check with a dealer to find out if you could order to Lease than just buy at time of delivery.

YOu can easily get them to take $5-$6 per month after all fees/taxes. Just tell them it cost too much and they'll start throwing deals at you. It may require a call back every 6 months, but no big deal. I think of the 10+ years I used Sirius/XM, I only had to completely cancel once for a month when they did call my bluff. After a month, they called and said "Come back and we'll give you 5 months for $25 after taxes/fees". My commute is minimal now and I use Spotify a lot, so I don't even bother with Sirius/XM anymore. But with a few phone calls threatening to cancel, you'll easily keep your XM bill under $75 a year.

Probably a tech that screwed up and was hoping that (a) the service manager wouldn't notice and (b ) the customer was the type to not raise his hood.....ever. I bet this happens more than we know and the customer never knows the difference. Also, when getting a tire rotation, always mark a tire/wheel so you can verify that it has actually been rotated. On a few occasions I have come back to a set of wheels that are still in their same position as when I dropped the car off and there was a charge for rotation on the invoice. For oil changes I always pop the hood and check the oil to make sure the color is right (IF I use an outside service to change my oil).
-
Seems to be a common trend. Just like the bubbling paint on the hoods of Mustangs for years.
-
Make sure you are looking at the right engine spec. in the owners manual. There is one manual for all 3 engine options so some sections will reference which engine it applies to.

Auto Locks and other IA questions
WingNut replied to cxxxv's topic in Alarms, Keyless Entry, Locks & Remote Start
I think it is more of a safety feature for when an accident occurs. The thought being locked doors have a better chance of staying closed during a crash. Dunno. -
In my Edge...no. In my Mustang I won't wave, but I do take notice of other Mustangs around me. Sometimes starting up a conversation in a parking lot or gas station. A few times a year I'll get a light flash or wave from another Mustang owner. But I think I get more attention from people in cars that have no chance in a race. I just laugh because I don't mess around on public roads. You take your Subaru somewhere else.

To keep the doors locked when the car is moving. TOOLBOX is going to be the diagnostic tool that Ford dealers use. -
Be aware that poster has a 2013.

I had the Ford Premium Extended Warranty for my '11 Mustang GT. I bought it online for $1100 I think around the same time I bought the car brand new. I wanted to make sure I had a warranty for the entire length of my loan (years and estimated mileage). $50 deductible. Right before it expired I'd take it in there for every weird sound and just making stuff up. Based on receipts I broke even. Had a lot of front end replaced before the warranty ran out so I was happy with that. Would I do it again? Not sure. My Edge is a lease so of course I didn't opt for it this time. I think next time I'll just take the money it'll cost for that warranty, and put it aside as a vehicle repair fund. Or toss $50/mth in an account just for that. Knock on wood, the mustang has been out of warranty for over a year now and no problems (besides the original battery finally died). But I don't put more than 6k miles on it a year, so that helps with keeping costs low.

Easier for me to just suck it up and head in to Wal Mart. I try to get there early in the morning, grab all my WalMart items (paper towels, household items, etc.) I need to stock up on and get out before the "People of Wal Mart" crowd rolls in.

Schrader TPMS Closeouts at RockAuto 2007-10 Edge (MKX?)
WingNut replied to WWWPerfA_ZN0W's topic in Lounge
To add, you can see all closeout items for your car by using a custom URL. Go to RockAuto.com Choose your vehicle / motor from the list. The URL will now look like this "http ://www.rockauto.com/en/catalog/ford,2015,edge,2.7l+v6+turbocharged,3310415". You want to copy the bolded part. That is your car's ID. Now take that number, and place it in this URL where the Xs are (Of course take the spaces out I put in after http) : http ://www.rockauto.com/RSS/vehiclefeeds.php?carcode=xxxxxxx&m=wc&l=en&html=true For my '15 Edge Sport this is how it looks: http://www.rockauto.com/RSS/vehiclefeeds.php?carcode=3310415&m=wc&l=en&html=true Just bookmark it and check it every once in a while to see if anything is closing out that you want. -
That was a good deal. I ended up grabbing some Penzoil Synthetic for $9 per 5 quart jug after rebate (Amazon). If you watch SlickDeals.net on a regular basis you'll see these oil deals pop up once in a while. So stock up then. I usually grab Mobil 1 from WalMart and it was on sale for $23 last week (5qt jug). Used that to change the oil in my Edge. My Mustang takes 8 quarts so I usually grab 2 for that. Had to run to Advance Auto to drop off the old oil and did a quick price check. Mobil 1 was on sale there. $36 for a 5 qt. jug. That was their sale price? LOL.
