  1. Finally found out that my car got built yesterday, July 6, about 10 weeks after it was ordered. Not going to accept the order though. The last straw is when the dealership called back last week to see if "I was still interested in a new Edge." They were following up on earlier sales leads and did not even realize that I had already ordered a vehicle. They were totally surprised when I said I had ordered one. I asked if they could get a status on my vehicle. The sales manager called back with an ETA of July 17. Told her that was too late and that I was concerned about the leaks and about Ford still selling cars that they knew had a leak issue. Sales manager lied to my face and said, "Oh that issue only affected cars built on two specific days." I wish I had a recording of that conversation. Going back to get another Infiniti. I was very excited about the Edge, but enough is enough. I was lied to when I ordered the car regarding the availability and was lied to again by the sales manager last week. Thanks to all on this forum for the information and good luck either trying to get your orders delivered or returning your water damaged cars. I wouldn't accept any car that had been wet inside. No matter what they do to it, it will never be as good as the new car that you paid for.
  2. LOL!!! Just received a promotional email from Ford today with the image below at the top of it. Notice the caption reads 2015 Edge, but the picture is of a 2014 model. If you guys have a new 2015 Edge ordered, make sure that they don't try to deliver you a 2014...
  3. I wonder if dealers are now being told not to sell these affected vehicles, if they already have them sitting in inventory. I would hope so. I am surprised that this story of production holds, delayed deliveries and leaking/damaged vehicles has not broken out of forums like this and gotten onto general auto industry blogs or regular media. Seems like a noteworthy story, given the importance of the new Edge as product for Ford, but I don't see any mention of it when I search.
  4. I ordered at the end of April. I have a VIN, but still no estimated date of delivery. I am going to wait until the nine-week mark at the very end of June. If the vehicle is not built by then, I will probably cancel the order. I figure that if it has not been built after nine weeks, the actual delivery at that point is going to be a LONG time off. In other words, the longer it takes to even schedule manufacture and build, the longer the time I would imagine it will then take afterwards for subsequent delivery. I have been checking inventory at Ford's site and my dealer does not appear to have had any 2015 Edge Sports of their own, even as demos, for weeks. They had some in around the time I placed my order, but not since. If dealers do not have units in to even display, that's got to tell you that a customer special order is not going to be a high priority. The bad thing is that dealers still have an incentive to accept orders, even if they know they will never be filled in any reasonable amount of time or maybe never fulfilled. They get to hold onto deposit money and a get a vehicle ordered with a buyer waiting. Even if half the people get disgusted and cancel, they still have the other customers to string along. Maybe they will buy a different Ford vehicle. At least they are not buying a competitor's vehicle in the mean time. In the end, they know that can still quickly sell that vehicle if it ever comes in, even if the original buyer cancels. They key to all of this is honestly disclosing up front to buyers that they may be waiting months for their car. That disclosure doesn't seem to be happening. Have we gotten to the point where we have to get complicated real-estate type sales contracts drawn up, to even order a car?
  5. Today (June 2) from the Associated Press: "Ford will shorten the traditional summer shut-down at some of its plants for the third consecutive year to meet rising demand. The company recorded its strongest April in nine years with sales of the revamped Ford Edge midsize SUV rising 78 percent from the previous year, the best sales ever for that model in that month. The Edge is one of the vehicles that the company cited Tuesday for the need to increase production. Others include F-150 pickups, the Escape and the Explorer. The company says that it will produce almost an additional 40,000 vehicles this summer with plants open longer. Six assembly plants, as well as supporting powertrain and stamping plants, will shut down for one week beginning June 29, rather than the usual two weeks. Locations include Chicago, Dearborn Truck in Michigan, Kansas City, Oakville in Ontario, Canada and two locations in Louisville, Kentucky." Bad news for my order, if they shut down Oakville at the end of this month. I am guessing that my Edge will not make that cut-off and will therefore be delayed even longer. What I don't understand is how Edge sales are up 78% compared to last year while production is down 50%. Are they counting orders as "sales", while the orders back up because not enough vehicles are being produced? Or were they cranking out large volumes of 2014 models last year that they weren't selling then?
  6. I did get my VIN yesterday, after ordering on April 29.
  7. How does the new car look, especially the cargo package?
  8. The latest Donlen report (as of May 15) http://www.donlen.com/production-cars-ford.aspx now shows 16-18 weeks of production lead time for the Edge. That is up from the 12-14 weeks that they were displaying a couple of weeks earlier. Still no confirmation that Ford has even accepted my order that was placed on April 29. It could be fall before I see mine, if ever...
  9. Quote from Automotove News interview with Joe Hinrichs, Ford President of the Americas: "CFO Bob Shanks said Ford missed out on $1 billion in profits in the first quarter because F-150 and Edge production was down 75,000 vehicles. What we said is that we were running about 40 percent less F-150 production than the first quarter of last year and 50 percent less Edge than last year."
  10. Did your new Sport come in? How does it look?
  11. That's great! So, now that you have the VIN, did you get an ETA on delivery?
  12. Mine is a Sport FWD, deep impact blue, 401A package, panaoramic roof and cargo accesory pack. I didn't even try to order the 51D (Driver's Assistance), since I knew that would cause a delay. There is nothing specific about my order that I believe would cause a delay. I believe that all Edge orders are simply held up. I live in Atlanta and every dealer seems to have one or two in stock for demo, but I have yet to see a single 2015 Edge driving around in the real world in this huge local auto market. That is not a good sign for delivery prospects. When Ford released 1Q earnings to Wall Street recently, they specifically cited problems with sales volumes on the F150 and the Edge as drags on earnings. Sales on both were down drastically as compared to last year. I believe, at least with the Edge, it is a problem of availability. When I ordered, my dealer did not mention delays. I only have a $1,000 deposit down and acess to a free lawyer , so I am not worried about losing money. I just want my car. However, I don't want a vehicle that is so old that it is considered to be a used car before it even gets delivered. If a dealer accepts an order knowing in advance that there will be extreme delays in delivery, I would certainly say that is unethical, possibly fraudulent. Maybe that is why they only asked for a small deposit.
  13. How does the cargo accessory package look? I ordered that on mine, as well.
  14. I also put in an order for an Edge Sport on April 29. I am now seeing estimates of up to 18 weeks for delivery on the Edge! As of today, two weeks later, Ford says "order processing." No VIN, no ETA. Now I am questioning whether the order will even go through. I saw one web site that suggested that no more 2015 Edge orders would even be accepted. Some other Ford 2015 models are already built out. At some point, Ford will stop accepting 2015 Edge orders, in order to start preparing for 2016 production. I imagine that we are nearing that point, beacuse of the huge production delays already in place for the 2015 model. Not sure what to do now about my order.
