  1. I have an 09 fully loaded and you will love it. My wife doesn't like the seats (she liked my Sable seats better). Without question, get a certified vehicle if you can (may cost more of course). I also strongly recommend you got the best extended warranty you can. A couple of thousand up front "could" pay back in dividends over the next few years. Mine has paid back about 70% so far and I still have a year+ to go. If you want driving lights, have the dealer turn them on as part of the deal. (Normally they are not turned on unless it was a fleet vehicle or in a state that requiet DRL). Have them check to see if all the recalls have been completed. (My 09 has just had two new recalls pop up this month and better to get these out of the way before you take delivery). Last piece of advice is to read through the forum and see what everyone else has had problems with. The 2011's are not without their problems (as is every car). Great vehicle (esp. when loaded with all the goodies). Wish mine had a heated steering wheel!
  2. Where did you connect the power lead to connect to delayed power? Reason I ask, I'm thinking that it's not the negative connection thats causing the problem (simply completing the circuit), rather the pos lead is shorting the radio signal. Does this just happen on FM or on AM as well?
  3. Although it's a long shot, you could pull the cabin filter and see if there's any mold or organic material causing the smell. Is there any possibility that the HVAC case drain may have become clogged and developed mold or mildew? Are there any special conditions where you smell the odor stronger (such as when idling or at highway speeds). Does it change when you run the heater or AC? Is it less if you switch to recirculate? Have you sniffed near each wheel assy. (thinking of bearing grease bad and the like).
  4. Great information. I cleaned my Weathertech last spring with Dawn and water. But left the mostly clean and dull. I'll try vinegar and water next spring.

  6. No, no, no, no, no. Duct tape. What kind of auto mechanic are you anyway? Everyone knows electrical tape isn't permanent.
  7. Had a simular problem on my 09 MKX. Took it to the dealer and it turned out to be a broken vacuum hose located on the back side of the engine. It took about three hours to replace as they had to pull battery tray and some other stuff.
  8. May not get a "check engine" light for this problem. Code could still set however. There's over a dozen codes for headlights.
  9. My guess is the SJB is either loose on its mounting or failing. The headlight circuit is fed through the use of a FET and produces a pulse modulated voltage to the headlights. It's 100% for regular headlight use, 50%for DRL. About the only thing you can do is check to see if the SJB (fusebox) is loose. Otherwise you will need to get the codes pulled. If the circuit is failing, it should set a code. If the SJB is failing, all you do is replace it. I would guess that the headlight controller could be the problem, but again you would need to pull the codes.
  10. We did this with our local Ford dealer. They then matched the price on the tires but paid more mounting and warranty. (Worth the little extra in piece of mind).
  11. Dark tint is illegal in ALL states. Some flexibility on side fronts, in some states, but nothing allowed below rearview mirror height on front window. If your concerned about heat, there's a 5% film that blocks infrared that should work okay on front and front sides.
  12. On a non-dual system, the blend door should affect both sides equally. As you state it's working properly, there is only one other thing that I can think of as the cause: the heater core is blocked on the drivers side. (Allows full airflow through the core, but no heat to pick up). As a test, consider operating the air conditioner and test whether both sides are equally cold. If they are, then it's probably the heater core (either inside the core or some material that got into the heater system and is blocking the airflow through that part of the airflow. To support this, I found a large amount of some type of sponge rubber pieces blocking my cabin filter. Had no idea how it got into system, but did find it after an oil change at local Ford dealer). (???) If the ac is also not working, it's not the heater core. Has to be a blocked air chamber. Don't think the door is two-piece, but whenever this comes up it's always the driver's side that's cold. Does anyone know if the heat door is in two pieces or if its all one piece?
  13. How about a electrically operated front 0late holder? (Mounts under bumper). Ebay item no. 321860901502
  14. I can turn my display off in my 09 MKX. I agree that it can be a little distracting at night, I'll sometimes just turn it off.
  15. So much great information in this message, like to see it pinned.
  16. Would hitting a chuck hole at speed cause this? Glad ro hear everything's good to go on the Edge. Still covered by the extended warranty? That just paid for itself.
  17. Talked to the dealer and he said I could schedule at any time, just bring it in near empty. Asked what if I had to replace tank, he said they have been stockpiling ranks and have half-dozen on hand. (FWD, not AWD). Told him I have AWD and he said would take one extra day, and they would supply a loner for the time they had it. Would have to bring a tank in from Ford parts warehouse. Also said that cars specificly not noted in recall (not registered in snow states) will be serviced under recall, if found to be leaking. However, if checked and found to be okay, owner would be responsible for labor.
  18. Hey jsmith, that's an outstanding writeup. One of the best I've ever seen, every thing is crystal clear. Thanks so much for posting this. If I ever need to replace my pump I'll remember you. Btw, how many miles do you have on your edge?
  19. Does your car have a Sirius receiver?
  20. I have one of the older units with a hard drive. Is it just songs or can one dvd's as well?
  21. The Silverstar zXe bulb is more for appearance (bluer). The Silverstar Ultra is a better bulb for seeing. (The zXe was designed to mimic the color temerature of HID and the intense blue actually reduces your seeing ability - blue focuses at the wrong part of the retina than redder light). I put in Ultra's for both low & high beams, well satisfied. Like to see a comparison between the Ultra and the Nighthawk's however. Here's a link where Ford discusses night vision and lighting: https://www.google.com/url?sa=t&source=web&rct=j&url=http://www.nhtsa.gov/DOT/NHTSA/NVS/Public%2520Meetings/Presentations/2004%2520Meetings/Farber.pdf&ved=0ahUKEwiSyIb-9rnJAhVC6CYKHeCSCsIQFggbMAA&usg=AFQjCNEkCvk-AIEvinLfYIhAF2z7TUbFGA&sig2=Xyzt857Q7T2IUV5iu2g3dA
  22. If your looking for just emergency chains to carry should you get stuck, and can be used on aluminum wheels, look at these: http://www.amazon.com/Zip-Grip-Go-Cleated-Traction/dp/B009M6TXLU
  23. Here's a good article on sizing based on clearance. http://www.etrailer.com/faq-snow-tire-chain-comparison.aspx#Clearance
