Dash Cover Won't Stay In Place
enigma-2 replied to Shane Bogart's topic in Interior, A.C., Heat, Interior Trim
Well ... sounds like a perfect job for duck tape. (groan). Just a thought. I have a sticky pad for my cell phone the stcks, no actually "clings" would be a better word, to the top of the instrument cluster. I would think that 4 or 6 of the would do a perfect job of holding this cover in place. And it would have the advantage of being removable without any damage. -
Apples and oranges. It would be better to compare the Edge/MKX to other crossovers, rather then to larger, heaver vehicles. But your right about it, a 4000 lb. vehicle will not have the heft of a 5000-6000 vehicle. Wasn't designed for it. Any AWD will not be the equal of a 4-wheel drive. My daughter owns a Jeep that's unstoppable in snow, but my MKX does just fine, especially when I consider that the roads are plowed 99% of the time anyway.

... Or learned the an extra wipe finishes the job...

I was reading in a different forum about this. Very interesting subject. It seems that the PTU can easily last the life of the car. And it can fail after only a few thousand miles. It seems to be related to how hot the oil gets. Exceed the max temperature, even if its only once, and it breaks down. Once it fails (from overheating) it breaks down and turns to a thick goo. Can no longer can lubricate properly. The seals then fail and plop, plop, fizz, fizz. They have pictures of a failed PTU after opening. Clearly show a thick goo clogging the insides. (At lease) one respondent reported that the fluid can overheat when driving at 85 mph for a period of time. I would think that towing would also be a factor. Don't have the link, I'll try to find it and post here. Edit: found the link, had it posted to home screen (Android). http://www.fordflex.net/forums/viewtopic.php?t=9334

I posted a pix from the service manual, in a previous thread. The drain in located at item #4. http://www.fordedgeforum.com/topic/17975-ac-makes-noise-and-limited-air-flow-when-turning-left/?fromsearch=1 If you crawl under the car, it's just an open tube that sticks down a couple on inches. A blast of air should open it, but I would follow up with a can of Lubegard to kill any mold. http://api.viglink.com/api/click?format=go&jsonp=vglnk_146324934006617&key=4f95868279975442d20c58420425bb75&libId=io7gtuu90100b4bt000MAddjj46s4&loc=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.fordedgeforum.com%2Ftopic%2F8307-hissing-noise-when-ac-is-on-and-im-turning-left%2F%3Ffromsearch%3D1&v=1&out=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.amazon.com%2Fgp%2Faw%2Fd%2FB0007PHD0S%2Fref%3Dmp_s_a_1_1%3Fqid%3D1463008208%26sr%3D8-1%26pi%3DAC_SX236_SY340_FMwebp_QL65%26keywords%3DLubegard%2Bheater%2Bcore&ref=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.fordedgeforum.com%2Findex.php%3Fapp%3Dcore%26module%3Dsearch%26do%3Dsearch%26andor_type%3D%26sid%3Dee10eafc5081707828f3cb5ad5dc99f8%26search_app_filters%5Bforums%5D%5BsortKey%5D%3Ddate%26search_app_filters%5Bforums%5D%5BsortKey%5D%3Ddate%26search_app_filters%5Bforums%5D%5BsortDir%5D%3D0%26search_term%3DAc%2Bdrain%26search_app%3Dforums%26st%3D0&title=Hissing%20noise%20when%20AC%20is%20on%20and%20I%27m%20turning%20left%3F%20-%202008%20Edge%20%26%20MKX%20-%20Ford%20Edge%20Forum&txt=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.amazon.co...ard%20heater%20core&loAsUuid=io7gtvdt-f47067c4-016f-4538-ba53-0cbdcf8c2caa&rewrit=false Here's a Youtube video on how to do this http://api.viglink.com/api/click?format=go&jsonp=vglnk_146324903428514&key=4f95868279975442d20c58420425bb75&libId=io7gmb8w0100b4bt000MAddjj46s4&loc=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.fordedgeforum.com%2Ftopic%2F8307-hissing-noise-when-ac-is-on-and-im-turning-left%2F%3Ffromsearch%3D1&v=1&out=https%3A%2F%2Fm.youtube.com%2Fwatch%3Fv%3DBi22mdXj3wM&ref=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.fordedgeforum.com%2Findex.php%3Fapp%3Dcore%26module%3Dsearch%26do%3Dsearch%26andor_type%3D%26sid%3Dee10eafc5081707828f3cb5ad5dc99f8%26search_app_filters%5Bforums%5D%5BsortKey%5D%3Ddate%26search_app_filters%5Bforums%5D%5BsortKey%5D%3Ddate%26search_app_filters%5Bforums%5D%5BsortDir%5D%3D0%26search_term%3DAc%2Bdrain%26search_app%3Dforums%26st%3D0&title=Hissing%20noise%20when%20AC%20is%20on%20and%20I%27m%20turning%20left%3F%20-%202008%20Edge%20%26%20MKX%20-%20Ford%20Edge%20Forum&txt=https%3A%2F%2Fm.youtube.co...h%3Fv%3DBi22mdXj3wM

Btw, how did you determine it was the module? What usually fails on these are the seat bottom heater pad. I assumed you checked the fuses. Believe there are three of then in this circuit.
-
I can't disable this on my 09 either. There is a work-around if it really bothers you that much. Turn your wipers on manually, pull the lever and squirt, the turn them off when finished.

Put OEM style pads on my wife's Sebring convertible at the local Ford garage (coupon special), and the squeeked like crazy. Running foward or backwards. She hated them. So I bought a set of NAPA's best pads, took them back to Ford and they put them on, and dead quiet. Asst service rep said some pads squeek, the better ones don't. Will never go cheap again.

Playlist Order - HELP!! - 2015 Edge
enigma-2 replied to Denicio's topic in Audio, Backup, Navigation & SYNC
Yea, it would indeed be a super pita to rework all those song headers, but I don't think there's any other way. The system is set up to sort the headers in alphabetical order. One other thought, if you were to go back and wipe the headers (time consuming as well), the system will read the playlist titles and play those in alphabetical order. -
Playlist Order - HELP!! - 2015 Edge
enigma-2 replied to Denicio's topic in Audio, Backup, Navigation & SYNC
This was covered in a separate question from the Ford Sync forum. http://fordsyncforum.com/topic/1381-setting-up-the-usb-flash-drive/ BTW, the Ipod Classic 160's are still being sold (new & used) on ebay. -
Duplicate, deleted.

Sorry to hear this. Guess any sun and sand in the air is tough on cars. Back here, its not the rain, its the salt the road crews pour on the streets to melt snow. I Googled "auto body repair in UAE" and got several hits. Looked on Facebook for Dubai and got dozens of hits, one had 39k likes. If it were me, I would get an estimate from a shop like Mr. Cars Auto Maintenance UAE or simular (they are the ones who had 39k likes).

Hissing noise when AC is on and I'm turning left?
enigma-2 replied to Ghastly's topic in 2008 Edge & MKX
This work well. The foam tends to get into all the nooks and crannies. (And we all know how hard it is to keep one"s crannies clean). http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B0007PHD0S/ref=mp_s_a_1_1?qid=1463008208&sr=8-1&pi=AC_SX236_SY340_FMwebp_QL65&keywords=Lubegard+heater+core And here's a youtube video on how to use: https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=Bi22mdXj3wM -
2008 Edge Limited CD player runs w NO keys in ignition!
enigma-2 replied to Michelle777s's topic in Welcome Forum!
Q. I know the CD player will load a CD with the engine off, will it eject one as well? Wondering if the CD is stuck and trying eject? -
20k may be a little excessive. Ford recommends 20k only if your off-roading on sand in a hot climate. 30k would probably be safe for normal driving. A senior mechanic at my local Ford garage told me 90k for normal driving (even though Lincoln does not have a recommendation for my 2009).

Google "lemon law" and your state. The laws are different state-by-state.
-
I would say it's all realitive to your situation. Is the body rusting out? Interior still nice, or showing definate sings of wear? Engine smoking? If it's still good overall, 100k is nothing for a modern auto. My 09 MKX at 92k still looks and runs like showroom. (Ok, maybe not, but she's as close as you can get for 92k miles). Point is, if your happy, don't want car payments and after investing a grand in fixing her back up will conceivably get 3-4 more years of reliable transportation, then I would say, absolutely. A new one will cost you over a grand just for plates, full insurance, excise tax, sales tax, etc. Granted, nothing beats a new car, but .... a car is transportation first, and a luxury second.

Actually it's a good question. Washing the roof is a challange, especially if your short(er). (And by the time you hit you late sixties, you're going to be shorter. lol) I grown tired of hand washing; when I do I usually fire up the ol pressure sprayer and make short work of it. But only for the wife's convertible as she refuses to run it through the car wash. As I wrote earlier, I run mine through the local car wash every week. Gets detailed every other year, but that's starting to get a tad expensive. On my wife's Sebring convertible roof, I use a 3-step, step stool I bought at Costco. Light, easy to lift and move and tall enough. Has a nice plastic shelf that folds out to hold the soap bucket, too. Pressure washer makes short work of it. Foam the car down with soap, let it set and then power rinse it off. Finish with a gallon of distilled water sprayed on using the soap dispenser, and no water spots.

Just out of curiosity, have you checked the tightness of the front lug nuts?
-
It's kind of like a balloon pressed down on a flat surface like a tabletop. Press too hard (more load) and it flattens more on the sides (more wear on the edges). Inflate it too much and the center makes more contact, less on the sides. I should also have mentioned that running over-inflated causes road wander, your always having to correct the steering to stay straight. Properly inflated and you have the most tread on the road, making the car run straighter. The rating on the sidewall of the tire is the maximum inflation pressure permissible for that tire and should never be exceeded for long.
-
Unless you're carrying a full load, I would keep it at whatever the sticker says. Over-inflating causes the tire to ride up in the center tread and it will cause more wear to occur there. Not to mention it will hydroplane more easily, give a rougher ride and easier to lose traction on gravel. There's a reason the manufacturer puts that rating there.
