Can I move from power lift rear liftgate to manual?
enigma-2 replied to EdgeGT350's topic in Accessories & Modifications
My money is on a failing lift gate power strut. OP says it lifts 6" then "hits something". But it opens ok manually. -
What have you done to/with your Edge/MKX today?

Stuck my French "Air Quality Control Certificate" in the windscreen. Did you need to have the car pollution tested to get the certificate? -
Can I move from power lift rear liftgate to manual?
enigma-2 replied to EdgeGT350's topic in Accessories & Modifications
The auto/manual switch is in the menu structure, under settings->convenience. When you manually open the hatch, does it go wide open and stay there? (Wondering if the hatch needs new struts, binding or the power lift is failing.) -
Edge sways all over the road above 70 mph.
enigma-2 replied to ibChuck's topic in Brakes, Chassis & Suspension
As the car is fairly new, I wouldn't suspect the usual suspects, excessive caster, loose or worn steering linkages, or worn steering gears. So start with the basics. Excessive tire pressure will cause the condition you describe. Verify the tire pressure is no more than what's posted on the sticker on the door jamb. Another possibility for a car this age, could be worn tires. Without sufficient tread, the car will wander and hydroplane on wet payment. What are the condition of the tire tread? Are these the original tires and has the car always wondered? -
Does this happen with only one phone or with others as well? (Try connecting your wife's phone and see if you still get static.)

Trailer wiring harness
enigma-2 replied to jacobusrex's topic in Cargo, Hauling, Roof Racks & Towing
Its probably designed for a specific dealer option & not for trailer wiring. Easy way to add a trailer harness is to buy a kit specifically designed to tie into the cars existing wiring. This kit fits the 2019 (don't know what your driving), taps into the connectors behind the drivers and passengers tail lights. https://www.etrailer.com/Custom-Fit-Vehicle-Wiring/CURT/C89FR.html?feed=npn&gad_source=1&gclid=Cj0KCQjwn9y1BhC2ARIsAG5IY-7_LjtGct9oTQgy9Xlha4ZvAPnfs7db449JH2G7tPvVqUgsgSbQh2AaAtFuEALw_wcB -

Definitely a large difference between the two. Mercon V Recommended by Ford for use in Ford, Lincoln, and Mercury vehicles that require Mercon V or Mercon type fluid. It can also be used in most pre-2006 GM vehicles and many imports. Mercon LV Stands for "low viscosity" and is fully synthetic. It has excellent low temperature properties and shifting characteristics at high and low temperatures. It's also backwards compatible with previous generation Dexron fluids. However, Mercon LV is not compatible with earlier Mercon fluids, such as Mercon V, and should not be mixed with them. -
I was looking in other forums. A few stated that it would work (pressing the vol) others said wouldn't. Think they had different radios. Couple (back in 2022 or 2023) said it worked after a software upgrade ( why i mentioned it.) There's probably no way it can be done on your radio. Pressing & holding the volume knob was to only way I've ever read about (other than those radios that had a dedicated knob for it.) The only advantage I've noticed on mine was it makes the interior of the car dark at night. But, I usually leave my navigation running when I'm on the road. (On my Sync 1 system it's called "Display". On/off/status bar.)

Just looked at the Ford Accessories Ambient Light Kit and it only fits 09 through 19. So the factory kit doesn't fit. Wonder if there are there any aftermarket kits that would fit his 2022 SEL?

Sync 4 clock reverts to 24hr time
enigma-2 replied to TehNam's topic in Audio, Backup, Navigation & SYNC
This became a problem about a year ago due to an Easter Egg accidentally added by Ford during one of their updates. It was eventually fixed with a follow-up update. Did you have an update recently? With that problem, users were setting their clocks to 24 hr display and it automatically switched to the 12 hr. Ford was monitoring those forums and churned in to offer assistance. Don't think that Ford is no longer monitoring this forum, so you need to report this to get them to work on a fix. -
Try pressing and holding the volume knob while simultaneously rotating the volume dial. (This may not work on the Edge.) Seems like Ford could enable this in a future software update. .

Have you tried pressing and holding the volume knob? Works on some cars. If it works, it takes 2-3 seconds to activate. I have a hard button on my 2009 MKX for this. Never use it personally.

2014 Ford Edge Headlight vent hole
enigma-2 replied to Diego2014Edge's topic in Ford Edge & MKX Member Builds
There is a "rectangle" right above/next to the main headlight cover, which is a one-way vent. Supposed to let the moist air out (think of moisture as a pressure) but prevent air from entering. Usually driving with your headlights on will produce enough heat to dry out the fixture. Others that have had similar problems, replaced this vent and used a hairdryer to dry out the interior. Another possibly is the seal around the two halves of the headlight has cracked and is letting moist air in. Fix is to run a bead of clean sealant over the joint that connects the two haves. -
What year car? Are you thinking that the lights come on only with the parking lights, or function normally and also with the parking lights and ignition off? Edited; Was reading about the kit on Ford Accessories.com. Set your own mood – and choose your preferred interior LED lighting color – with this Interior Light Kit. It includes a LED-generated light in the cupholder area, and separate light bars for the front wheel wells. Surprised to learn that the interior light kit also included light bars for the front wheel wells. (My factory lighting doesn't have these.)

My Lincoln dealer uses the RDU vacuum equipment to suck out the PTU fluid and pump new fluid in. Something like this might mat the job easier next time (I havent actually used this, I'd rather pay the dealer to do it.) Thorstone Automotive Fluid Extractor Pump with long rubber hose, Oil Change Syringe with Hose, Manual Fuel Suction & Filler, Fluid Oil Change Evacuator (7 Oz./0.21 Qt./200 CC) https://a.co/d/4f4gFIf -
AC blower fan replacement
enigma-2 replied to ewaters's topic in Interior, A.C., Heat, Interior Trim
What's wrong with your blower? If it's just noisy, try lubing the bearing first before replacing the motor. Mine was getting noisy, I dropped it lubed the bearings. Still quiet over a year later. -
Are FRAM ULTIMATE oil filters safe to use?
enigma-2 replied to 1004ron's topic in Accessories & Modifications
86k sucks. You would think that the leasing agent would take care of maintenance. Oil changes but not coolant. Maybe the previous owner thinking it was a rental and their going to get rid of it after a couple, beat the shit out of the car. (?) My dealer drops the subframe to change water pump on all Edges/MKXs. Said it's faster. Think he quoted $2600 or thereabouts. Probably over 3k now. Its hard to give up a car you love when all it needs is a RDU. If it were me and that's all that's needed, and you already have a new unit, no question that puppie gets a rear end. -

I worried about the wp failing, and talked to one of the mechanics at Ford service department that I trust. He said that the failures were mainly happening in 07-08 engines and related to poor maintenance. Customers not getting oil and coolant changed on schedule. (The 07-08 engines were shipped with the old gold coolant. Ford also found that on engines built before 04/01/2008, the water pump inlet tube was susceptible failing due to coolant corrosion.) While he admitted that all water pumps will fail eventually, he said that they should go at least 200k or more with proper maintenance. (Mactfordedge has several YouTube videos where he ran Lulubelle over 300k without a failure.) Wish I could say that about the PTU .... -

Labor hours to replace an oil pan.
enigma-2 replied to rjburer's topic in Dealership & Vendor Experiences
Apr 25 2018 6410 - 2014-2019 Various Vehicles - Equipped with a 2.7L and 3.0L GTDI Engine - Oil Pan Leak. Some Ford and Lincoln vehicles equipped with a 2.7L or 3.0L EcoBoost engines may exhibit an oil leak from the engine oil pan RTV seal. Replace the oil pan by performing the published Workshop Manual (WSM) service procedures. After removing the oil pan, it is suggested to allow the crankcase to drain overnight to minimize the chance of residual oil contaminating the crankcase sealing rail. Remove all traces of old RTV, clean the engine sealing surface with only Motorcraft® Metal Brake Parts Cleaner then wipe with Motorcraft® Metal Surface Prep Wipes, and allow to air dry as directed in WSM, Section 303-00, RTV Sealing Surface Cleaning and Preparation. If possible, after the new oil pan is installed, allow the new RTV sealant to cure for 4 hours before refilling the engine with oil. Ford is investigating this concern. Monitor OASIS for future updates. Just to replace, between 2-3 hours. But following the Ford procedures above .... I'd call local dealer and get a quote. Metal with gasket is probably better, but you'd probably pay double. -
Yes. Any circuit that's active when the car is off, such as circuit #1 for example. But if the camera is always on, wouldn't this drain the battery?

Wonder what they are using for "synthetic media"; some type of plasitc? With motorcraft you don't have to question, you know it's good enough. What kind of metal? Metal can corrode. Plastic is not as strong but doesn't corrode. Personally, I would stick with Motorcraft. Delco is also a good brand. Can't go wrong with either. Still thinking about having local dealer change my 3.5 water pump as a proactive measure. Thought I'd do this around 150k but service manager felt I could go 175k before changing. It'll be Motorcraft of course 😁
