Weird Ticking/Knocking noise at idle (Ford Edge 3.5l)
wes8398 replied to Fordedgejunk's topic in 3.5L
Super old thread, but I'm Googling something else and happened across this. Surprised that nobody in the comments suggested that "ticking" sound is simply the vacuum purge valve. It's almost definitely that, and the sound is perfectly normal. Put a stethoscope on it and you'll see. Besides that, the other "ticking" noises you hear in the background are almost surely the injectors, as already suggested. Also normal operation. -
Oct. 9, 2024 NOTATION for Google searchers that find themselves on this thread like I did - The diagrams and associated TQ specs used in the OP and this post are not accurate for a 1st generation Ford Edge. I assume they're of a newer model Edge, or perhaps not even from an Edge at all. The specs shown in the video linked/posted by WWWPerfA_ZN0W ARE perfectly accurate.

Replacing hvac control / dash module - programming?

Happy to contribute! I did all those same things when I was trying to figure this out myself. Thank God for scrap yards! -

I'll see if I can dig them back up, but I'm not sure the forum will allow me to post 'em... we'll see -
From another post, but this is how I fixed my wonkey hvac issues: UPDATE: PROBLEM SOLVED!! (thanks to a few regulars here who seem to find the time to contribute to EVERYthing) I went to a scrap yard that had a handful of 1st gen Edges in their yard last week, and managed to grab 4 different HVAC modules (along with some replacement rear parking sensors) for $75. Picture 3 is of the faulty original unit that was replaced with one of a different part #, but luckily fully compatible with all the options in my Limited (ambient lighting, automatic hvac control, dual climate control, heated seats, etc). *Note in picture 4 that 2 of the modules I retrieved were missing a receptacle. This was likely due to those vehicles not being equipped with certain options (heated seats? ambient lighting?)* After having the opportunity to tear into the scrap yard vehicles without any regard for their well-being, I devised myself a plan to easily replace the module. The first step of the process was to remove the side access panel to the dash/door vent. After opening that up, as you can see in the pic below, I used an angle grinder to cut a little access hole in the "blank" of the dash piece that lays UNDER the removeable kick panel. From these two access points, I was able to remove the plastic push-rivet that holds the vent tube to the module frame/mount; and then remove the upper portion of the vent tube entirely. After that, it's a matter of one retaining screw, and then unplugging the connectors from the module to drop it out and swap. With everything back together, you'd have no clue I was ever in there. Now the fan, lighting, etc... everything... works perfectly. No programming needed, either!

Replacing hvac control / dash module - programming?
wes8398 replied to wes8398's topic in Interior, A.C., Heat, Interior Trim
I'm new to Forscan (although, not programmers like it, as I did plenty on my Audi via something similar). I did a general scan and nothing related to the HVAC came up. I didn't have much time and also don't think I have the right Bluetooth / OBD adapter for the MS CAN stuff. -
Replacing hvac control / dash module - programming?
wes8398 replied to wes8398's topic in Interior, A.C., Heat, Interior Trim
Thanks for the reply. I've already obtained the proper part number - BT4Z19980-W - but what I'm wondering is if I can broaden my search to units with different suffixes - like BT4Z19980-*U* or ...*R*, etc which are only differentiated by options that are programmed into it like ambient lighting, heated seats, etc; and simply reprogram it for the options in my particular vehicle (through Forscan). Being able to do so would make locating (an affordable) part from a local wrecker much easier. And the reason I'm onto replacing this particular module is because I've been pointed there by my troubleshooting and advice thus far. I've swapped 3 different APIMs and programmed them appropriately... No dice. I've replaced the usual suspects for fan control issues, etc... No dice. The issue I'm trying to resolve is best described in this quote from another poster: "I have a 2011 Ford Edge Limited. I'm having an electrical or computer problem which I can't seem to figure out. This may or may not have to do with the SYNC display, but that is where most things are noticeableļ»æļ»æļ»æļ»æļ»æļ»æļ»æ, so that's what I'll be talking about. The interior cabin fan ļ»æruns sporadically, turning off and on. The levels of blowing work fine. On the display itself, the clock and temp blink on and off. The ambient cabin lights blink on and off. So basically, the cabin ambient lighting, fans and clock all turn off and on. Everything else works. The radio and CD play fine. I can bluetooth to my phones and play music withoutļ»æ a problem (at least no more of a problem than SYNC normally has). My navigation works fine. My air conditioningļ»æļ»æ and heat both work, though the fan that blows them is the one that turns off and on. Also my temp within the cabin doesn't work, so I either have to set the temļ»æperature to LOW or HIGH to get any real change in ļ»ætemperatureļ»æ inļ»æ the ļ»æcabinļ»æ.ļ»æ" -
Hi everyone. I'm trying to find time to get my wife's hvac system working again, and I think my next attempt is going to be replacement of the hvac / dash module / control. This is seemingly a less-known module that lies within the driver's side dash; above the emergency brake release. My questions are surrounding the replacement module, which I hope to get from a scrap yard. I've google'd part numbers and such for WAY too long, and can't seem to determine if *any* hvac module with a matching part number will work, or if I *have* to get one with a matching last character so to match the options this particular edge has (ambient lighting, dual zone climate, heated seats, etc). The part number I've so kindly been directed to is BT4Z-19980*W*, but there are many other options which the only difference seems to be what options it's programmed for. Is it possible that I don't need to be so selective about which one I need, and can instead program my "new" one appropriately using Forscan? Thanks in advance!

Also... now that I'm looking at parts/options... do you happen to know if I *have* to get the exact matching part number, including the suffix letter which seems to discern options like with or without ambient lighting, dual zone climate, heated seats, etc...? -

I'm going to be working on it again soon, and plan to report back. Just need to get to a scrap yard and find a replacement hvac module (or two) to swap in. Hoping I can grab it from a u-pick yard so I can learn how to access it while I'm digging it out. That gift posted above is absolute gold though. -

I didn't get notified of the responses here... glad I happened to check in!! After replacing the APIM a number of times, as well as just replacing the blower motor resistor, my next go is this mysterious hvac control module (which I've come to find out is also called the "dash control unit"). I starting checking things out briefly tonight, and it looks like there's going to be some serious trim removal going on. I wasn't much looking forward to winging all that on my own; but Haz just KILLED IT with that info dump has absolutely made my night. I'm about to delve into some of it now. Thanks SO MUCH, Haz!! -

Thanks for chiming in. I have come across that post in my Googles a few times; but when I try to find the actual part to purchase, I keep coming up empty. Same when I try to find a diagram/schematic locating a "heater control module", "ac control module", and all similar terms. Nearest I've been able to find is the blower fan control switch. *shrug* -
Blower motor switch, you say? After wasting my time with replacing the APIM, I think I have my next guess...

FordeEdge 2011 AC blower turns on and Off
wes8398 replied to TARiQ's topic in Interior, A.C., Heat, Interior Trim
Few years late to this party, but our 2011 Edge (Limited) has been doing exactly this for a few months now. After a visit to several scrap yards yesterday, I swapped (and re-programmed as-built data) the APIM module (three different times, with 3 different units I gathered from the scrap yards) without any positive results. I had been damn sure this was going to solve the problem, but I was clearly wrong. I've watched battery voltage and all seems well...idles @ ~14.1 and dips to ~13.95 every time the blower kicks back on. I'm at a loss. One thing I'd really like to know is what/where this "HVAC module" that's referenced above is. I've scoured the Google machine and can't find any solid answers... -
You DO NOT have to change all 4 tires at once. Nor do you HAVE to have the exact same brand/model on all 4 wheels. As long as the overall diameter of all tires is REASONABLY close, you will NOT do any damage to your drivetrain, etc. This idea of damaging your vehicle if you don't buy 4 tires at once js simply a sales tactic.

MFT/Sync wont save any changes to settings...?
wes8398 replied to wes8398's topic in Audio, Backup, Navigation & SYNC
Well, 2 years and a lot of wasted time spent fighting with my local dealership and Ford Customer Service, but these issues have finally been fixed by the latest MFT/Sync update that I found on the myford website the other day. I installed the update without any issues and most, if not all, of the aforementioned issues have been rectified. I'm ecstatic! Now I'm just crossing my fingers that the new update doesn't come with too many of it's own issues. -
SYNC 4.6 update not installing
wes8398 replied to winboy's topic in Audio, Backup, Navigation & SYNC
I checked the link that Shaay gave us and it turned out there was an update available for me. I downloaded and installed it yesterday, and it seems to have fixed the glitches that have been haunting me since we purchased this thing 2 years ago. Namely, SYNC wouldn't save ANY customisation changes we'd make from one start up to the next (ambient lighting, "home" and favourites in the nav system, brightness settings, and the list goes on). I'm ecstatic! Now I'm just waiting to hear from my Wife about if there are any new glitches we'll have to deal with. Hopefully they're fewer in number, or at least not as invasive as previous. -
SYNC 4.6 update not installing
wes8398 replied to winboy's topic in Audio, Backup, Navigation & SYNC
If someone were to download these files and make them available for others, could the update be installed on any Edge? I would REALLY like to update my SYNC in hopes that it would fix a few major glitches in my current software. -
SYNC 4.6 update not installing
wes8398 replied to winboy's topic in Audio, Backup, Navigation & SYNC
When was this update released? I've been waiting for an update since a few years ago because my current SYNC install has some very annoying glitches. Most annoying is that it doesn't save any of the customizations/settings you make (ambient lighting, dash lighting levels, etc)... they all reset the next time you start the car. -
Sooooo.... did you read the first page of posts? I don't think I need to repeat the information I've already posted, but I'd suggest you give it a read.

enigma-2 - In regards to your 1st post here, if you read the information available in the 1st page of this thread, you'll realize that this is mainly just a sales tactic... Or a case of misinformed tire shop employees who just don't know any better.
