I have a 2011 Edge with 41,000 miles on it that experienced the same problem - loss of power, wrench appeared. After shutting the car off and restarting, car worked. Problem repeated itself the next day, was able to pull over the two times (fortunately,) shut the car off and restart. After the third time the engine light came on. Took the car to the dealership. They replaced the throttle and did a Powetrain module update as well as "highly recommended" cleaning. Nearly $900 later I have the vehicle back in working order (at least so far.)
Pretty frustrating - have owned a number of vehicles, most from Ford, all older and with more miles than this one and never experienced this type of problem - very disappointing.
