That is the information I was looking for, thank you. One other quick question, I know My Ford Touch has been panned over the years by many auto critics & Ford customers. I also know Ford made some improvements to the MFT reliability & usability & I'm wondering if the improvements actually made a big difference or if it's still frustrating to use? We're looking at a 2014 Limited & MFT is the only thing that is giving me some reservations about purchasing an Edge.

Thank you. Well the spring & fall in the Northeast can be nice during the day where you don't need heat or AC but then get really cold at night. So during the day it might be off but then in the morning after a cold night you would want heat. That is just one example I can think of.

So even if the climate control is turned off before the car is turned off it will still turn the heat on with the remote start?

We are looking at 2014 Limited with the factory remote start. My Father has a Silverado truck & Chrysler van & both have factory remote start & the really nice part about both of those vehicles is that when you use the remote start, they automatically turn on the defrost on high heat & the heated seats in the winter. In the summer both of those vehicles automatically turn on the AC. It doesn't matter what the climate control was set on when the car was turned off. Does the Edge Factory remote start do that also? I don't really care about the AC in the summer but automatically turning on the defrost on high heat & the heated seats in the winter is really nice feature.

Yeah that's kind of what I'm gathering from the research I've been doing. I'm not saying that we'll definitely be purchasing an ESP, I'm just trying to get as much information as possible about them so I know all the information before we even purchase an Edge. If we do purchase the ESP I would definitely want to go with the plan that covers the most. Otherwise I feel like it will always be an issue of whatever happens to go wrong won't be covered defect.

Thank you for the reply. So a Ford ESP cannot be purchased for a vehicle that is past it's 3 year warranty? That pretty much rules out any model year prior to 2013.

I have a couple of questions about Ford's ESP. First we are looking for a used Edge in the 2011-2013 year range. Does Ford's ESP's have a limit on how old of vehicle you can purchase it for? I know some manufacturers only offer their extended plans for vehicles that under 5 years old. My second question is the level of coverage. I don't usually purchase extended warranties for vehicles and the last time I purchased one was back in 2005 when I bought a 2002 Nissan Maxima. I remember that at the time Nissan offered an extended warranty that basically covered almost anything, in fact it basically only listed a very short list of things it did not cover such as AC refrigerant for example. It was basically very close to as extensive as the Nissan new car warranty which was nice. I negotiated a great price with the Nissan dealer back then for that extended plan and we did have to use it a couple of times & in the end we basically broke even. Does Ford offer something similar to that where the coverage is almost as extensive as the new car warranty? I did try looking at their plans online but the available information is rather confusing.

So at least I know it was possilble to get one with push button start & the 18" wheels although it seems finding one optioned like that might be a challenge.

Thank you for that information. It seems any Limited with push button start is more than likely to also have the 20" wheels. I don't doubt you on the ride quality not being that different but that was only one of the reasons I don't care for the 20" wheels. Mostly I personally just find them too flashy looking for our tastes & second the cost to replace the tires when they wear will be expensive. It's not that we would have a difficult time paying for replacement tires when they wear it's just kind of nuisance when it's an option we didn't want to begin with. I am aware of the Lincoln's although you don't see too many of those around here used for some reason.

First, I'm probably not the only one to do this but I've always referred to the 2011-2014 Edge as the 1.5 Generation. Actually I think Ford should have considered it a second gen but that's not worth disputing. Now for my actual question.... We're looking for a 2011-2014 'Edge Limited' to replace my wife's Murano and one feature she's really gotten used to and likes is push button start. All of the Limited's we find have the 20" wheels. Was that the only way to get push button start on the 1.5 gen's? I really have no interest in wheels that large for quite a few reasons. Also I have a question about this forum in general. Why are the generation specific forums broken down to a separate forum for every model year? It seems it would be a much cleaner look & the discussions would be better if it was broken down by generations. So there could be a forum for 2007-2009, one for 2011-2014 & one for 2015+. Just a thought. That's how it is on every other model specific car forum I've ever viewed.

I'm wondering if anyone else was in the same situation but bought an Edge anyway and either wish they hadn't because of MyFord Touch or ended up being glad they did buy the Edge because MFT wasn't anywhere near as bad as they thought. We are looking to replace my wife's 2005 Mariner & we have test driven several vehicles including the Edge, Murano, MDX, Durango, Escape, and CX-5. The Escape and CX-5 are too small for our needs & the Durango is really much larger than what we need. We just didn't care for the MDX which narrows us down to the Edge or Murano. We both absolutely love the Edge, it drives nice and has great features. For instance she really likes the back up sensors which aren't available on a lot of SUV's surprisingly including the Murano, I guess they assume the back up camera will suffice. Anyway we test drove 3 different Edge's and spent considerable amount of time on the last test drive trying to figure out MFT. We are both fairly tech savvy but MFT just seems like a distraction. I understand there would obviously be a learning curve but the system doesn't even seem that intuitive. For instance it seems like the touch screen has to be pressed really hard for the selections to be registered and the menu system is much more complicated then it should be. Another example is the radio presets are so small & require a lot of focus to see which one you want to press which takes the drivers eyes off the road for longer than necessary. We so badly want an Edge but MFT is really turning us off & we feel we'll be less frustrated with the Murano. The Murano is missing 2 features that our Mariner has that we really like, the back up sensors & the keypad entry however we are considering going with the Murano and giving up those features rather than be constantly frustrated with MFT. Any suggestions?
