There is really no other source past the "top" of the photo. I'll de-grease it and see if it comes back.

2012 FWD with 54,000 miles. Is this transmission leak "normal" for this vehicle? There is a 3rd party warranty in effect until 60,000 and I am trying to decide if I should investigate if the leak should be fixed. It will cost me $100 to make a "claim" so I am asking if others have a similar leak. Leak appears to come from the center gasket seal in the middle of picture. Thanks

I know this is an old thread but I'll add a comment. My 2012 suffered from the "delayed shift" from R to D. The throttle body needed cleaning - my theory is that the RPMs were slow to return to wherever the computer required for gear change. Maybe completely wrong or in my head, but the vehicle shifts better after TB cleaning.

The "quick lane" at my dealer uses synthetic blend for "the works" package. If you still have the engine oil it might be worth having an oil analysis done on it. I use Schaeffer: http://stores.buyschaefferoil.com/schaeffer-oil-analysis/ My guess is they will find a lot of metallic particles so probably not worth the effort. I wonder if the oil pump failed.

Cannot decide Titanium 2.0T vs Titanium 3.5L
freebird replied to t0lkman's topic in Buying, Leasing & Ordering
If you buy vehicles for the long term I would not go with the Spanish 2L engine. The turbo maintenance/repair would scare me away. -
I'd be interested in your maintenance schedule. Did you follow the "oil life" monitor or different schedule?

Will you purchase a Ford again?
freebird replied to Wedgeamatic's topic in Buying, Leasing & Ordering
I have not had any issues at 52,000 miles and 1.5 years of ownership of my 2012 Edge that was left to me. It is #3 after a Toyota truck and Honda Pilot currently in the driveway. But, it easily beats out the Jeep Wrangler that my son owns. It is a piece of junk requiring constant wrenching. The Ecoboost engines really scare me. I'm a long term vehicle keeper and I'd hate to think of long term repair bills on these engines. -
Interesting - 2012 with 3.5L and owner's manual states the capacity is 6.0 quarts.

for us simple minded guys "out-of-true" still means warped.... -
2013 FWD 2.0L and removing front rotors

sorry - can't confirm but I highly doubt it -
Does the 2008 have a maintenance reminder system that provides oil life and then suggests when you change the oil? That was the main reason I asked the question on your drain interval. I have a 2012 that, when my father owned it, he would follow the computer suggested change interval around 7,000 miles. When the vehicle became mine I changed to 5,000 interval deciding that I knew better than the computer.....

What has your normal drain interval been?

airbag warning light stays on
freebird replied to lpgao's topic in Alarms, Keyless Entry, Locks & Remote Start
airbag light should be providing codes - don't know if a regular scanner can read them or not. A Toyota that I had you could short two pins together and get a dot dot dash type code that could then be deciphered from the repair manual. Not old enough to have battery issues (in the air bag) so might be a bad sensor or main battery as others have suggested. -

I use Colgate toothpaste. -
This drives me nuts too - no fog potential at all and the recirculated air button turns itself off. I would think if there was a fog potential (I guess the Ford engineers think the window may fog up) then recirculated air would, indeed, be better because the moisture is being removed when defrost on, right?

I don't think so. I drained mine and had no material on it. The plug is very small and I doubt there is a magnetic version for it. At least I have not found anything yet.

Anyone found a magnetic replacement drain plug for the 6F50?

In the US I would just make a claim against my comprehensive insurance for glass breakage. Deductibles normally are $0 - $100 for "glass breakage."
-
yes, I would agree that bad motor mount(s) could cause the axle to fail. I am curious if you have any decent equity in the vehicle after purchasing and repairing the way you have?
-
The total capacity for a 2WD transmission on my 2012 is 11 quarts so you probably changed about 1/2 the fluid. I just did mine (3x drain/fill method) and I drained about 5 quarts each time. It is amazing that the transmission has a scheduled maintenance schedule of 150,000 miles.
-
I'm in your same boat - thought an OEM part would be the one with the perfect fit and some aftermarket part would have to be modified, etc. But, after cutting and installing mine are on and doing the job.
-
Could you make a claim via your auto comprehensive policy to cover the glass breakage? Might have a deductible to pay. Welcome to Ford "customer service."

Much nicer than the junk OEM product that I put on.....
