  1. I know rehashing an old topic, but I finally got this resolved. It was as simple as a replacement radiator reservoir cap. It is amazing how an $11.99 fix caused the problem to go away. I replaced the cap about 8 weeks ago and it hasn't dropped any since then. Normally it would have fallen by at least a half an inch.
  2. The front emblem replacement is super easy. The hard part is swallowing the cost of the emblem. I brought mine from a Ford dealership in Wisconsin and had it shipped for free. Here is a link to the instructions I used from the forum. http://www.fordedgeforum.com/topic/14629-front-emblem-removal-with-pics/
  3. Got an update yesterday on the Edge. The oil leaks have been fixed. Unfortunately they have installed the new APIM and they are having trouble programming it. My service advisor mentioned that they had sent a request to the Ford Technical Support and they probably would not here back from them until the afternoon of the 14th. Still haven't heard anything today, but I really didn't think the APIM would be what caused the longer stay I figured it would be the oil leaks. Oh well I guess I will just wait patiently.
  4. I will do if I get a good invoice back. I really thought about just telling my service advisor leave the APIM alone and how much it would cost for them to install a sync 3 module new screen and the new USB hubs if I purchased everything and brought it to them while they have the car. I really don't want the cost of that right now and sync 2 will most likely be smoother after the new APIM is installed.
  5. I had to put the Edge in the shop today for the APIM that finally decided to check it self out and some oil leaks. Thankfully both the APIM will be replaced under premium care as will the oil leaks. Apparently some seals have decided to break down didn't get a whole lot of information on that but I know it was a minor leak as I never lost much oil on the dipstick. Now to the Ford Escape loaner I have. First off I had an 2017 Escape last time my car was in during May of 2016, but it only had the basic sync system. This one has the SYNC 3 system and it is such a major improvement over MyFordTouch (Sync 2) and Apple CarPlay is awesome. I love the CarPlay map integration. The Escape is still to small for me personally and feels like it rides so much lower to the ground than my Edge. I will say the 1.5 L Ecoboost Four feels powerful enough but the Escape is much lighter than the Edge. On the whole I do think this will be a much shorter stay at the service department, but I do like this Escape better than the last one. Also the Magnetic paint color and the black wheels on the Sport Appearance Package make the car look really sharp.
  6. Thanks for the advice. I will mention this.
  7. Sadly it has always dropped well more than that think an inch in a matter of three months. I know the water pump is external thankfully, but I am not sure about testing the Degas Bottle Cap. I am considering replacing it on my own just to see if an eleven dollar fix may do the trick. It has always looked fine but you know why not try it out. As for the Oil Leak there is never any oil on the ground were I park, but the underbody plastic cover has had oil spots that were very fresh on it the last two oil changes. I thought after the first one (July of 2017) it was the drain plug due to it being pretty old and the rubber gasket looking completely shredded. So I replaced both. But the second time in (November of 2017) the drain plug area looked really dry and noticed on the right side of the engine had some wet spots. I was kinda wishing it was the side that connected to the transmission so I can figure an improper connection when the transmission was replaced and an easy explanation but to no avail.
  8. So my Edge is a currently at 91,535 miles and I will most likely hit 100,000 miles by August of 2018. My premium care extended warranty ends at 100,000 miles or March of 2019 so I think 100,000 miles is more likely. I am planning on keeping the car for at least another 7 years or about 180,000 miles. So what I am wondering is after this many miles is there a likelihood that the APIM will go out because the extended coverage on that has come and gone. Also I am wondering the likelihood of the door ajar issue coming up after this many years and mileage. I plan on taking it in around the Middle of March for hopefully a last shop visit just to get a few final issues worked out (ie. possible small oil leak with no drop on the dipstick in the 5 months that I normally have between oil changes, still a consistent drop in the coolant level even after many checks with three different dealerships and no sign of it going into the oil, this has been perplexing for almost 45,000 miles now, and also an APIM check. The APIM has been a little wonky but I wonder if a faulty A7 nav card could have been the culprit. Here is the story, MFT has been flawless until I replaced my A4 nav card with an A7 card from Amazon. I kept that card for about 7 months and would have a laggy experience loading nav or a no nav card inserted error multiple times which would normally resolve itself in 10-15 minutes. I would also get intermittent phone connection issues and slow but up in general on the screen. Well back in January the Nav card completely stopped working for 5 days and I frustratingly contacted the company thinking all they can do is tell me they won't refund or exchange the card. Well much to my surprise they not only exchanged it but upgraded me to an A8 card for no cost. Since I have put that card in the system seems to be running a lot smoother. Maybe it is a placebo effect but everything works great for the last three weeks and no issues. I will say the new transmission is awesome since it was installed still occasionally will shift a bit wonky, but a hell of a lot smoother and no weird hop when turning slowly like when in a parking lot, and the new turbo well I didn't think anything was wrong with the old one, but city gas mileage has been better in the seven months since it was replaced. I know super long post but any input would be appreciated.
  9. Just my two cents since my fuel pump was replaced at 30,000 miles I run strictly top tier 87 octane through my car unless there is no alternative (parents small town when I needed gas and the only top tier place debit card machine wasn't working) usually once per year. I also refuse to fill gas at a station if I see the gas truck filling the underground tanks my thinking is that adding fuel to those tanks mixes up all the settled sediments in the tanks and causes a better chance of that sediment going into my tank and those the fuel filter. Just my thought process.
  10. I will say I brought my premium care warranty when I brought my 2012 in 2013 because I was not financially smart at the time, but I also got lucky with it paying for itself two fold. That being said I will never buy one again, and do not plan on buying another car unless I have cash on hand to buy it with. And just an additional note mine is the first year the Ecoboost was offered on the Edge and I feel it was a really early build considering it was sold to it's original owner on November of 2011.
  11. I will say probably another win for the extended warranty since I am past the five years on the APIM.
  12. Well yes except I know the APIM is on the way out. Slow startups on the infotainment and a few crashes in the past few weeks and navigation error. Also slow voice commands. I am planning a trip to the dealer in the next few weeks once school gets more settled in.
  13. I have had the fuel pump replaced once at about 31,000 miles and the car currently has 86,000 miles.
  14. I had the same issue on mine at right around 81,000 miles. Honestly I was not happy about it at all, but I ended up buying the extended warranty. Granted that I am now making smarter money decisions I never plan to buy an extended warranty again, but with all the issues I have had I actually came out to date probably around 2500 dollars ahead on it. The service rep I have recently dealt with said in his time working in service departments he has never seen someone come out as ahead as I have. I am hoping I can get another 60,000 miles out of the car once I go out of warranty for a total of 160,000 dollars and I am already starting to save up for my next car which if it was today would probably be a 2015 or 2016 Mazda CX-5 or Mazda 6 Don't get me wrong I absolutely love my Edge, but hot damn it has had a whole lot of issues.
  15. This has been ongoing for a while but want to get opinions before I take it to the dealer. When the engine is idling every so often the RPM's will drop from ~800 to Just under 500 and the car shutters a bit. This only seems to be an issue when the AC is on, and it did this with the old compressor and with the new compressor as well. I first noticed this when the brake booster went out and I figured it was from the vacuum leak, but since that has been fixed for over two years and it is still doing it I doubt that. I honestly thought it only happened when stopped in traffic with my foot on the brake, but today I was waiting for someone with my car in park and it did it again. I can't remember exactly when, but I had an injector service done about 40,000 miles ago and it seemed to maybe make this better for about 15,000 miles. I think that I might get the injector service done again, but I am wondering if this may be a throttle body issue. I still have the warranty for another 15,000 miles or April of my estimations on driving and mileage.
  16. I sure hope not everything seems to be working great thus far. Battery seems to be holding up nicely. I honestly tossed the idea around in my head to just drive off and see if the problems remedied themselves, but since it was 5:20 pm on a Friday afternoon I figured better let them handle it before they closed. I think it would have fixed itself anyway.
  17. Not sure were to post this, but since the battery is an accessory i figured why not here. So I had the battery tested at Autozone yesterday since the car wouldn't start Thursday morning. Their machine said that it had 100% charge, but was a bad battery. I priced around and surprisingly the dealer had the same price as Autozone and O'eillys and they installed it for me, but then the electrical gremlins came out. I got in the car after the battery had been replaced and the check engine light was on the AC would only blow hot air while the climate section of MFT would not light up only the lights on the panel below and when I turned the car off to go back and talk to the service tech the center display and radio wouldn't turn off. The advisor came out with me after I talked to him; the center screen turned off finally and he felt the hot ac and saw the check engine light. He took the car back to the shop and ten minutes later he told me that it must have been electrical gremlins because the ac kicked in as he was driving it to the back and the CEL was a fluke code and was reset. Still after I left the dealership I noticed the insert Nav SD Card issue appeared with my new A7 card and no matter what I did I couldn't get it to recognize the card from a master reset and removing the card turning the car off and letting it re cycle the MFT. What finally seemed to reset it was inserting my old A4 card and letting it load and then reinserting the A7 card. I just thought this might help anyone if they get these gremlins when they replace there battery.
  18. Good Morning, Well as I am packing up getting ready for my last day in El Paso for a training I get in my Edge to move it so I can load it easier and boom dead battery. Enough charge for the instrument lights turn on and all interior and exterior lights and even the power liftgate and the locks. I got a Red Fuel Phone charger and Jump Starter Combination and was really skeptical of its ability to jump a car. I knew it would charge my phone easy, but surely not jump start a car. Well I connected it up and got a green light on the jumper saying it was ready to go. I get in the car hit the starter button and nothing but a click. Let it sit another 10 seconds and boom fired the engine right up and I was ready to go. Loaded the car up with it running to charge the battery and turned it off 15 minutes later and it started right back up 10 minutes later so I highly recommend this product. https://www.amazon.com/Schumacher-SL161-Lithium-Multi-function-Starter/dp/B01MYH3KOF/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1500558140&sr=8-1&keywords=redfuel+car+jump
  19. I should have posted this a few weeks ago, but have been non stop since I got my car back. I have to say that Sewell Ford in Odessa went above and beyond when my car was in the shop recently. They were able to get me scheduled to drop off my car within 5 days which was a huge improvement to the last time I had visited them and while yes they had the car for 47 days every single issue that I dropped it off for was not only fixed, but fixed so hopefully it can avoid future repairs and although the 10 day rental car ran out they gave me a dealer demo vehicle. I have had previous issues with this dealership, but I was throughly impressed and I think a major part of it was the service advisor I had who was also the assistant service manager. Hopefully I can request the same advisor if my car has to go back in the shop.
  20. Will do on the leak. Oil has always been normal color and consistency through time. Doesn't seem to get creamy or watery. I'll push it probably later this summer.
  21. Well I got back from my trip with my recently worked on Edge and it handled the trip like a boss. There were a few instances of stupid shifting from the new 6F35 transmission, but still mostly smooth and I think it was going through its relearning phase. AC also blew cold as ice when needed and had to use the seat heaters for the first time ever in the middle of Summer (40 Degree Mornings) Some trip stats below. Over a 10 Day Trip Total Mileage Traveled: 3148.0 miles Avg. MPG by Trip Computer: 27.3 MPG Total Gallons by Trip Computer: 115.07 gals Total Hours 71 Hours 16 Minutes and 49 Seconds Calculated Best Tank Gas Mileage 30.7 MPG Calculated Worst Tank Gas Mileage 25.1 MPG Only really major issue I had is that the coolant reservoir still lost coolant through out the trip. Left with it at the max cold range and it was very close to empty when I returned. I have had it checked twice and have been told there are no leaks. I may end up buying a new cap and see if that fixes the problem because if it has a crack it will definitely evaporate, but I don't see any cracks.
  22. More like what I didn't do in the past four days. Started on Thursday evening 7/6 with front brake pad replacement easy job and spark plug change again pretty easy (4 cylinder) except for a dropped tool and not being able to find it without pulling off the bottom cover off without having the car on ramps (very tight fit for a fat man like myself). Then on Friday after a trip to O'reillys to "rent for free" a the rear brake caliper tool and did the rear brake pads again not to hard once you get the hang of the tool. Then came what should have been the easiest job of all should being the key word. Went on to do an oil change and when we pulled off the bottom cover off the previous day there was some oil on the cover. Upon further inspection it looked like it was coming from the drain plug. The oil level has been fine checked it multiple times in Colorado, but any oil leak is concerning to me. Went on and decided to buy a drain plug because no local auto parts store or the ford dealership had the gaskets in stock. Bought an drain plug from Orielly's and it didn't fit, brought a drain plug from Autozone it didn't fit. Both of these were looked up on there parts search in store. Finally got the right one from Carquest and figured out that both the other stores looked up for the V6 smh although I specifically said the 2.0 liter four cylinder. Replaced that finished the oil change and pressure washed the cover and put it back on to check for other leaks just in case that wasn't the issue all in all a two and a half hour oil change that normally takes me 30-45 minutes. Then after a day of rest today I decided to wash the car and put on a fresh coat of wax from top to bottom including the wheels which came out amazing. Of course as I was finishing the last panel on the wax job I start to hear thunder in the distance get that finished and quickly oiled the BAMR rails and I think it is done for a while. Of course once I am done and have it sitting in the shed thankfully covered but not closed up it stores storming with high winds so I am sure it got wet right away oh well. I am glad to get some of those minor jobs done and thankful none of the mechanical stuff was that hard.
  23. Well I got her back and she is running like new. So excited to have my baby back. AC is running ice cold the transmission is running smooth as can be and the turbo is doing the turbos job although I did not have it when the turbo went out. Im on top of the world right now and am so excited to get out on with my vacation. YAHOO!!!!!
  24. Well it is a moot point anyway. I got my car back about two hours ago and it feels like new. If I knew how the transmission was supposed to really feel I would have never accepted it back the last time it was in the shop in June/July of 2016. It shifts so smoothly. I am looking forward to my trip more than ever now. It almost shifts so smoothly that the first time I drove it when I got it I though it wasn't shifting at all.
