  1. Yes, I have had the valve body gasket updated back in the summer. Nothing is wrong with the car, It goes for maintenance regularly at the dealer. I find it a little strange that I cannot find any info online about this, no similar pictures, nothing, so that may a be a good thing. I bought the car at 19K so if the previous owner did the same, this car should be in it's best condition.
  2. The foam cover that goes over the engine? There is no discoloration on it.
  3. I have not tried any type of solution or chemicals yet. I Keep the engine cover over it anyway. The car goes to the dealer for maintenance regularly, and the coolant looks fine and I don't think it has been flushed yet. I have absolutely no problem leaving it like this, I just want to make sure that something is not happening that will eventually damage the engine or take any years off of it's life. The oxidation idea is an interesting one since I know K&N filters do let more oxygen into the engine. Bottom line, from a mechanical standpoint, should this concern me?
  4. I'm only at 50K and the engine and this recently happened. It doesn't seem like grease or dirt because none of it even rubs off with a rag. In some spots it loooks like the the metal literally changed color, and it seemed to have happen over a short period of time. The only change to the engine I have made was install a K&N panel filter. Any feedback?
  5. I take my car to Ford as I am still under the maintenance plan, they say ONE of my tires is wearing down. I ask just because I am very proactive with my car and I just don't trust mechanics, I'm especailly leery about the Ford service since I am never able to talk to an actual mechanic but IMO taking it to Ford is probably much better than just some mechanic.
  6. I'm at 56K and just wondering how long I should expect the suspension to last before I need to get them new. I live in San Diego, most of my driving is highway but my street driving is full of bumps as the main roads (not highways) are pretty bad!.
  7. Any insight on this? My engine block is black and I'm not sure if it's dirt or what...Whatever it is, it does not wipe off with a rag. I don't remember the top of the engine being black... I know there are DIY's for cleaning engines and they it's very simple but then throw in all these DONT's so how easy it really as it pertains to the EDGE engine in particular??
  8. I doubt that they will offer this to older models as an upgrade since this looks to be a whole new operating system. Not to mention there might be hardware upgrades/changes necessary. EVEN if they do, they'll probably require you to bring the car to the dealer for the upgrade. Think about it like taking your home computer and changing from Windows to Linux....
  9. No funny characters in the title. I haven't bought music in like 7 years, haha and the music in question is all downloaded..Bitrates....would THAT make a difference?
  10. I'm curious how songs are populated into the MFT from a flash drive. I ask because some songs are located in "songs" but others are not. I checked the metadata for the a song that IS in the "songs" section and one that isn't and they are both setup the same way... So to clarify, some songs are in the songs section but some songs I can ONLY find by going to artist>album and THEN picking the song.. Any insight?
  11. Weird because I watched the guy do it when they repaired my roof.he just squeezed the rubber together, stuck it into that black slot and it stayed since...You can just take it to the dealer but if it's anything like my situation, they use a third party for sunroof repairs..
  12. I have had the slipping issue and sluggish acceleration before..Ford replaced the valve body gasket and removed one or two check balls which fixed the issue.
  13. Also thinking it may be a TPS issue HOWEVER, the hesitation in shifting is 100% all of the time. Sometimes I have good drives with perfect shifting, other times not.
  14. yes I am still experiencing this concern. I had the car in for a transmission valve body upgrade which fixed the acceleration and tranny slip issue. I though it would fix the shifting issue also. Now I am starting to think it is NOT the tranny. SOMETIMES, the the car just loses power between shifts, it hesitates between shifts and I am starting to think it might have something to do with the throttle body.. I will bring it up when I take it in for routine maintenance but I post here to see if anyone else experiences the same..
  15. Haven't seen this subject yet. What would this consist of? There are too many areas that don't look like they get wet at all....
  16. I'm just seeing this post and it sounds like the same issue I have been having along with the occasional slip and thump when in traffic and minor acceleration sluggishness.. Already had it in the dealer and they applied TSB 11-12-13, I think it was...The work replaced the valve body gasket and removed a check ball. This seemed to have fixed the accel issues and slip and thump issue. I am however still noticing the gear shifting hesitations sometimes from 1-2 but mostly from 2-3....This happens only sometimes and I cannot pinpoint any particular reason or environment. Sometimes it shifts perfect other times it seems to have the "brainfart" as said before..... I find it hard to believe that the transmission can make these mistakes this many times and I'm beginning to think there is some issue with the PCM..
  17. I just put this filter in. Noticed a slight improvement in acceleration but that's about it..I read somewhere that the PCM should be reset when changing to one of these air filters, is this true? If so, can I do it myself and how?
  18. The fix that my car went through seemed to have fixed the slipping issue but the shifting still intermittently has issues (at least to my expectations)....Sometimes the shifting is tight, other times the shifting is loose (it hesitates between gears usually 2 into 3) it's not a MAJOR issue but can be very annoying as I have never noticed this in a car unless I'm very light on the gas pedal. I cannot say it only happens on uphill or level ground, it's just whenever....Even using the manual option is the same. Either my expectations are too high or the transmission is just a crappy one...
  19. Good explanation, I suspected the same thing. It's a good thing that I took it to a different Ford dealer this time which was closer to my job and I think it's better than the one where I purchased the car and have taken it the past 4 times.... I got the car back today and and I notice a difference in the acceleration and shifting although the SA said that it can take about 200 miles for adaptive. The paperwork says they applied TSB 11-12-10 for the fix.
  20. I've read a few times that people had to SHOW the TSB to the dealer. That seems so unnecessary to me, the dealers should know about these TSB's, they belong to THEM. From what I hear it's like some dealers are playing dumb with the customers so they don't have to perform the work???
  21. My car is still under the 5/60 warranty so it is free! I did not take the TSB with me, I forgot it on my desk...haha.....We took out the 7/100 extended warranty god forbid something else happens, when we purchased. I only told them that I had slipping and rough shifting issues, they asked me if I also had rough accel issues and I said yes even though I didn't really... I called for an update and they told me what the issue was and fixed it....Either they were able to re-create it OR they probably already knew the cause..(The service adviser said that the transmission department is the busiest so perhaps they are used to these isssues)
  22. Just spoke to the mechanic, he said that they had to update the Valve body gasket and check balls. Doing some research, this seems to fix gear changing issues. here's a video on the fix that I found randomly... I don't have the car back so I can't confirm this really fixed the issue but I have confidence that it did....We'll see....
  23. Finally took her in to get the battery replaced, (it was bad) had them check the tranny while there and they found an issue with some gasket which affected shift quality and they have to replace it and should have it done by Thursday :happy feet:
  24. Hmmm, that's pretty much the same thing I've heard re: warranty....
