  1. What were you letting cycle? The radio, or you just repeatedly did the little autoprogram setup by pushing the volume button up and releasing over and over until it worked? Thanks so much for the extra input!! Solving the steering wheel issue would be great. I can deal with the slightly funky backup camera behavior until I figure out how to get the video camera wire into the alpine instead.
  2. You kill off a couple thousand of resale value by taking it to a dealership instead of selling it yourself anyways, so for anyone that is planning on keeping the car 5+ years, might as well do whatever you want with it :-)
  3. No amps yet!! Was going to hook up a sub and amp, but blew some cash on an xbox one so I figured I'd wait since the kappas respond pretty well to the new head unit. But as an update, I've discovered that when I push the phone button, sync tries to comment to the phone, my radio powers off briefly, BUT then the backup camera works on the small sync screen again. Not 100% sure what is happening, maybe someone with more experience than I can shed some light on this phenomenon. Radio turns back on fine, and backup camera works the remainder of the trip.
  4. So I utilized some of my free time on Thanksgiving to install the Metra dash kit and Alpine W535 into my 13 Edge. I posted some images below, but just wanted to let people know that it's possible! The Sync screen is relatively useless after the install and I ended up just running a mic through to the dash to the bottom right corner, since you can't use the OEM mic. The reverse sensing system also seems to work, but I couldn't get the rear camera set up because I couldn't figure out which wire it is and there were no directions included on that. Having problems with the Axxess steering wheel control adapter also, doesn't seem to be picking up the steering wheel wires (I just posi-tapped into the ones I thought where correct based on the diagram from the website, but no luck!) The fit was extremely tight in the back with all of the adapters and wires connected and required quite a bit of shoving wires up near the top portion. Anyways, I'll see if I can figure out anything more on the steering wheel controls in the future, but I am posting pics of what it looks like fully installed! I know people were concerned about the color not being the same, but it really flows well with the original look. The A/C controls are decent too.
  5. I have a 2013 edge and all the speaker wire colors remain the same. Installed speakers the other day. What did you need to know the price of?
  6. I probably have a garment in the engine compartment too... I've been looking for my winter coat forever! ;-) Thanks for the amp advice, I'll try to locate this grommet over the weekend and see how hard a self install would be.
  7. Who uses a car clock anyways when you have your cell phone, pc, bedroom clock radio, programmable thermostat, cable boxes anyways? I've seen $1,000 rolexes that don't adjust to DST and their only job is to keep time... I'll give Ford a pass for not wasting time to implement that, they have enough stuff or work on to just get MFT functional! Please don't spend programming man hours on this...
  8. Ah cool, thanks. I was having trouble finding Edge-specific info on running those cables. Where do you bring them in from the engine compartment?
  9. Do you run them down along the floorboards for the Edge? I've never run amp wires but am considering it, since Best buy wants $100+ an amp to install I believe. How hard was it to get the little liner thing in and out and how was the fit with a decent gauge power cable?
  10. Just installed the 682.9s in all four doors and they sound great! Highly recommended.
  11. Those speakers fit great, although I wish they made them mount with the crossover on opposite sides. The little tabs at the top and bottom (if you are holding them vertical) can be tricky in the front driver side door, but you can bend it back a bit and all is well. I'm hoping the $150 i spent on all these silly harnesses and adapters makes the OEM --> aftermarket conversion pretty painless, but that remains to be seen until I get the back off!
  12. 1) The first half of this shows you how to disassemble the dash pretty well: http://www.metraonline.com/files/products/INST99-5829CH_web.pdf 2) http://www.fordedgeforum.com/topic/7415-edge-mid-range-touchscreen-stereo-upgrade-top-to-bottom/ Toward the bottom of the above post, he describes how to take doors off, and right below that he has all of the speaker wire colors. Should help you identify what is going where.
  13. Yeah I think the problem with adding a sub to OEM dash is that there isn't a pre-out for any of that stuff, so it involves a lot of extra wiring and splicing and probably adding a DSP, which seemed like more work than throwing in a new head unit and slowly adding on to it. The Metra dash kit site actually lists all of the additional harnesses you need, so I just ordered them from various places and am waiting for delivery. Looks like you just need the standard Ford harness, the ADBOX adapter that keeps your sync and everything, the steering wheel control adapter, and the antenna adapter. I'm unsure about how the backup camera is going to integrate (I assume it's a standard RCA video cable?) and I think the ADBOX harness keeps the connection to the "Reverse" on the car, but I'll definitely keep you updated and take pics once i'm done. So far I've put in Infinity kappa 682.9's in the front and rear doors and absolutely love the sound they bring, but they seem a bit underpowered by the OEM head unit so I figured i'd start with a new head unit (Alpine IVE-W535HD) and work from there. I'm not sure I have the know-how to run the power cable from the battery for amps, so I'm holding off on that for awhile (planning to add a stealthbox).
  14. Hi all, I've been a forum lurker for a bit and just recently purchased my 2013 Edge SEL. I purposely got a model with the basic Sync so I could add my own head unit and speakers. I was wondering if anybody had attempted and had success with the Metra 99-5829CH dash kit that keeps the smaller sync screen and allows you to add a single or double din head unit. I ordered all of my harnesses, adapters, and the metra kit from Amazon, so I wanted to see how hard it would be to do myself. Thanks for any input!! Geoff
