  1. Just wanted to provide an update for those who ‘updated’ from MFT to Sync3. I purchased a navigation APIM/screen from a 2017 MKZ from LKQ and used the provided MKZ VIN and the APIM Sync Serial Number (ESN) and was able to purchase ($109)and download Navigation Maps Version: NA 1 18. The map download did not check the VIN on my 2011 Edge but it did check the ESN. The ESN/APIM must be the same ONE used to purchase online or else the update will not install. Those of you who don’t have the VIN of a navigation compatible vehicle appear be out of luck.
  2. Got my 2011 Edge with Sync3 and tried my VIN and ESN and I received an error message. Basically the system isn’t recognizing my VIN as compatible although I can call a phone number if I feel that there it is an error.
  3. My Edge is at the shop getting a run in with a parking garage fixed so I can’t get the ESN, but I’ll provide an update as soon as I get the chance.
  4. I’m assuming the poster installed a sync 3 APIM like I did a few years ago. I would like an updated map as well as sometimes I have no cell signal in National Parks or out in the boonies.
  5. Does anyone know if those of us who “updated” from MFT to Sync 3 will be able to install the map update? It sounds like the VINs and ESNs will identify actual Sync3 vehicles and units.
  6. You can literally buy any Ford APIM from eBay (not SYNCC3) and use Forscan to activate navigation and set it up to match your as-built data. Between the used APIM , free Forscan software and the ELM adapter you need, you’d spend about $140-175.
  7. I guess I don’t know my Edge generations like I thought lol. I ordered the kit from Tasca and was primarily concerned with the coils so that is great news! I’m ok with just buying an extra set of plugs and gaskets.
  8. I have found information that supports using this kit in the Gen 1 Edge but not the Gen 2. Has anyone used this kit in a Gen 2 Edges (2011-14)?
  9. Don’t forget to get your GPS antenna- it’s prett cheap. It will ensure your compass on the Sync3 screen matches the one in your instrument panel. I don’t know if it affects the navigation on CarPlay or not - I would think the GPS from a phone would override the car but I’m not certain.
  10. I’m at 175k miles on my 2011 SEL and I’ve contemplated this too. Most of my miles (75%) come from highway driving. If you can afford it and really are trying to minimize risk then the safest option. There are several other members who have 300k+ with no issues but there are also others who had the pump fail at 125k miles. I say 200,0000 miles is a nice middle number without necessarily being in borrowed time. As as for maintenance that Ive done, replace all of you fluids. Clearly engine oil, but transmission fluid, brake fluid, steering fluid, etc. I just replaced my serpentine belt too. I had an ignition coil go bad 2 months ago and another one just started acting up today so I plan on replacing all 6 of them to avoid any PCM issues down the road. Anything else would be based on when items fail or the ride gets rough (ie., suspension components -though I replaced all the shocks/struts at 105k).
  11. Buy the kit online through ebay, get Forscan and install it yourself. I had the ebay Ford dealer do the activation since i purchased it from them. It has been the best $300 i have spent on the Edge. Cool car in the summer and warm air and seats in the winter.
  12. I have a 2011 Edge and have considered this as well. The Edge has 156K and has been relatively maintenance free. The only items I replaced that weren't scheduled were the suspension components at 105K and the ride continues to remain smooth. I called the Ford dealers in my area and got quotes from $1400-1700. Considering the cost and time of a replacement engine, Im thinking I may get the pump replaced around 170-180K. It may not need it, but if I keep the Edge past 250k, it will be peace of mind. I know there are several engines with more than 250k, but there are also several engines that never made it past 150k without a $2500 replacement engine. I figure the middle ground is around 200k.
  13. Well the lady that cuts my hair was getting a quote of about $700 from a non-Ford shop. I imagine the dealer will be more expensive than that. Id give them a call in the morning for a quote, it should be a fairly quick process.
  14. If I were you Id get a used one from eBay and plug it in. Some research and using Forscan will save you a lot of money. Heck I have my old one with navigation (I installed Sync 3)you could have for $100.
