Nick Halstead replied to timfountain's topic in Audio, Backup, Navigation & SYNC
have you unhooked the battery at all? This normally fixed all sync problems. Dunno about 3 though -
Big time swirls in black paint ?
Nick Halstead replied to John Rom's topic in Appearance - Detailing, Wash & Wax
So here's my Audi (wife and kids have the Edge in PA), it's had a rough year, the ceramic is done but living in an apartment for the last year in Hawaii and apartment in Arizona, it's seen better days. I went to this car wash tonight just for this post. I'll be driving cross country in about 2 months as I move to Fort Bragg, so not really to worried about fixing it right now. I just wanted to show that, any car can look great...until you add light to it. Everything you see on the hood is a reflection of of the roof. Also reflection on rear bumper, not scratches just another angle paint looks pretty amazing...This is the biggest scam from rip off detailers right here, posting pics with no light source. and then you add a light source, not so pretty anymore! looking good! in reality! -
I was just curious cause every post by you seems to be about maintain resale value and safety concerns.

Isopropyl Alcohol, the reason you do this is because most OTC waxes/compounds/polishes have fillers in them that just hide scratches instead of removing them (hiding scratches is the main purpose of a glaze) so you use the IPA wipe (or Carpro Eraser or Gyeon Prep) to remove any type of fillers to see what it really looks like. This is also why lots of peoples cars look great after they wax it and then a few washes at local car wash (even self washing bays) it starts to look bad again, cause car washes do not use PH Neutral or Balanced soaps so it eats away at the wax. -

you always start with least aggressive method first, then hit it with an IPA spray to remove any fillers then hit it with a light source to see the progress and make adjustments as needed. -
So what made you get an Edge ST? I'm curious, why would someone so worried about safety buy a performance vehicle, specially one that has not even been tested by IIHS.

What have you done to/with your Edge/MKX today?
Nick Halstead replied to WWWPerfA_ZN0W's topic in Accessories & Modifications
from my understanding the aero curtain is behind the bumper and the black piece The black piece does sit back more on the SE/SEL so in pics it does not always show due to shape masking from light angles, but I've never seen an edge with a hole. can clearly see this one and and this one. -
I agree here, a decade old car is gonna need maint. I'm not afraid to buy new, and not afraid to buy 1-2 years old with low mileage. Having someone else absorb the initial depreciation is a great asset also.

Big time swirls in black paint ?

My main issue is the label "ceramic made easy" false advertisement cause it's more wax, than it is ceramic, it's like having 5 gallons of water and pouring in a shot of pine-sol (without the strong smell..lol) same with the mothers product that says "coat like a pro the affordable and easy way" marketing words aimed at people thinking they are getting a $2,000. ceramic job for less than $15. I'm not a professional, it's a lil bit more than a weekend thing for me though but my day to day activities are controlled via U.S. Army. Every weekend for the past year or so I had a different car in my garage getting some type of work done, It was a big leap, cause I never wanted to do other peoples cars, but I did my boss' truck and then his boss saw it and his brand new hellcat with 4,000 miles ended up in my driveway and it spread from there. -

cutting compound def removes the product, I haven't seen said video, but if a water test was done, water will always bead if used after any type of compound, something that takes swirls off the top micron of a clearcoat will def wipe away a chemical shield on top of the clearcoat. Most real ceramics can't even prevent most micro-marring so there is no way an OTC highly diluted SIO2 ceramic/wax infused spray will do this. My current detailing routine depends on what the customer has me doing, Am I ceramic coating it, Just washing it? My Edge is Ceramic coated in Cquartz, My Audi has Gyeon Cancoat on it to test it's durability and how good it is with swirls since it's a short life ceramic with extreme hydrophobic properties but not so good properties when it comes to marring and swirling, that was applied in Dec 2017, The glass on the car is till amazing, the paint, still beads but the coating is gone, but it far exceeded 6 months. Though as the military moves me from Hi, to AZ to NC withing one year, the Audi looks horrible since all it gets is waterless washes with ONR and live in a desert apartment. When I get to NC, I already have it set for, wash/chemical decon/mechanical decon/tar remover/2 step paint correction via My FLEX 3401/then wiped clean with IPA and then ceramic coated with Kamikaze Zipang and Myobi combo. Normal for my car is just a foam with Swissvax and then a 2 bucket wash with the soap, dried with a Klin Korea Duo drying towel and then a blower in tight spaces. Though most my jobs are coatings, so they go like this... -

take a APC and dilute it 3/1 spray on surface, let it dwell for 5 mins then spray off and hybrid ceramic wax will basically be gone. A dedicated SIO2 spray sealant like Carpro Reload or Gyeon Cure is a better option. You can literally get the same look from a bottle of windex (this test has been done also) as you can from hybrid ceramic wax because the main reason the paint looks good is based on the polishing of the paint, just wont get the hydrophobic properties. -
if you don't have the "how to disassemble the whole car manual" here ya go https://drive.google.com/open?id=0B8epPWB6ZdvaVkUtQk1CZFd6T3c with that said, are the fog wire diagrams the same on fusion/edge? I only ask cause if you had a european edge wiring diagram you could check the differences. The euro edge has a host of wiring differences

not a fan of it, horrible durability and like 90% of all OTC products, all hype, to profit off the people who don't know any better. -
What's chrome on your sport?

Your post pretty much sums up why I said a "new" 2018 Edge Sport was a better financial buy than a 2019 ST. A lot cheaper and dealers trying to clear stock. Not because I don't like the ST, but first year problems are a bitch, I own a first year Sport, it spent 7 months (1 month, 1 month, 3 months, 2 months is how long I had rentals) at the dealer getting an irregular transmission housing diagnosed cause nobody could figure the problem out. Finally after Ford made 3 car payments for me, they found the hairline cracks in the housing. (getting off topic here...and just rambling now) My dealer experience was horrible, it used to be great and then my usual service writer left and it was all down here from there, My Edge even got a service writer fired. Prior to that, was all great, I've owned 3 Fords ( I don't have a fav manufacturer) since 2011. 13 Edge, 11 Fusion and 15 Edge, unless some crazy shit happens, it probably stops at my Sport. I test drove a ST, pushed the hell out of it and the transmission was a let down. Wife really wanted the ST to get out of our FWD Sport. Though I have no plans to get rid of it, like you said, it's the perfect size, specially for my needs, Wife got off plane in San Diego from Hawaii and her and my teenage kids, 75lb lab and 2 cats drove all the way to Virginia Beach with no issues, so atleast I know the transmission is fixed. I don't need 3 rows. If the explorer was 2 rows, that would be amazing! Specially a 2 row explorer ST, the same size. Now I'm just dreaming. lol

in today's world, it's a below average time. I'm not even putting it down either cause nobody expects a SUV to even pull that time. I can tell you, my Sport pulls a 7sec 0-60 stock and tuned on the horrible Hankooks pulls a 6.3. Swapped to Toyo Proxes and pulled a 5.6. Still nothing compared to the 4.6 GT500 was pulling in his tuned AWD Sport. Transmission is just blah. huge disconnect with car and driver. When I'm in my sport, which I haven't seen in a year almost really, It's just put in S and drive and mash the gas when I want to go fast.

https://www.detailedimage.com/Griots-M56/Random-Orbital-Polisher-P671/25-cord-S2/ that's a good beginner Dual Action Polisher, it's impossible to burn the paint with it. I've sold a few. I'm a tier 3 wholesale seller for Detailed Image, spent $4,100. in the last year, most of it for my own work though. -
that's assuming the person supposedly on that cross ever existed considering that part of the convo was comparing what was and wasn't available on a 2019 Titanium and a 2019 Edge ST, but I like how you drug the Sport into it.

we are referring to ST and trim under it though, since I'm supposedly wrong that 95% of the ST options can be had with a lower trim.

you just linked one of the ugliest SUVs on the market, you actually like that thing? i've never said I didn't like a car, specially one that I almost traded my Sport in for like 2 weeks ago. I don't think that's gonna happen. I don't think having a disagreeing opinion is grounds for that, last I checked this wasn't an "everybody gets a trophy league" thanks for being honest man, they might dislike you around these parts for honesty. So, list me all the ST only parts besides the motor and suspension and body panels.
-
Did you listen to the opening words? followed by videos of exotics... thats funny cause I'm pretty sure I said if I could have the Q5 interior and the Edge exterior it would be my perfect SUV... because all the performance parts that fit the Sport, also fit the ST, kinda hard to truly hate a vehicle that is pretty much the same as the one you own. I don't hate the ST either, then I'd have to hate my own Sport. I'm just hoping you ST guys get some real performance parts made but they all seem more concerned with getting their headlights to move.
