2 gears? Im pretty sure this is an RS topic
-
I don't think there's anyway shape or form you would be able to get a base Edge RS for anything less than 10-15k more than a maxed out ST. Your crunching actual numbers instead of the numbers Ford really cares about. The profit. Truth be told, there is ZERO market for an Edge RS. The majority of Edge owners are middle age and female. To be more specific, majority of owners who join the online groups of me and @037 usually introduce themselves with this famous line "I just bought my wife a (insert any edge model)."
-
Ford would make an Explorer RS before an Edge IMO. Though, if Ford decided to make an Edge RS, they wont sell, cause I can't agree on your pricepoint, I would picture it around $65-75k simply cause an RS Focus is 16k more than the ST and well it's still a Focus that they made shiny. The Edge, being a more upper class vehicle overall will generate a higher price point imo. I don't care where prices start at. It's where they sell at. Every Trackhawk owner I know has paid $110k plus for them. the 3 Demon owners I know paid $110k, 157k and 122k. Ford does not have that kind of fan base outside the Mustang. They can't just throw a big motor in a chassis and people just come rushing for it. RS models would just sit on the lot. Then we'd get them for cheap..lol

Is this direction the interior of the 2020 Edge is headed?
Nick Halstead replied to Chipster's topic in Lounge
that explorer interior is ugly, and extremely dated imo when you compare it to other companies setups -
I don't believe you were quoted since your last reply, you chose to come back.

honestly, it's just personal preference. if you don't mind logging to get vehicle specific changes for your mods, unleashed or any other tuner will work.
-
on flip side, it could indicate how little FP actually divested into the vehicle knowing that just the ST badge would be a great marketing tool in itself. The one thing I was hoping for was, lower profile (I don't know why ford is stuck on such high performance crossovers, nobody is going off roading in an Edge on purpose). Most important thing I was looking for was lighter overall vehicle. the C&D and MT articles are spot on to how ford marketed this vehicle.

I assure you, that's not me. I'm just appalled at the GT350 like treatment the ST is getting here. A reskinned Sport with an 8spd tranny and a "tuned" suspension. That's all it is. It's not a track carving blow the doors off the competition vehicle and neither was the Sport. I just said, the 18s on the lot would be a better buy financially cause your getting the same performance and a proven transmission for way less money.

It drove like my detuned sport?♂️

it's not that I don't like the ST, it's just that it wasn't all that ford made it out to be, it's def not worthy of the ST nameplate. I don't believe I'm hindering you one bit from sharing your experience's though.

yeah, so wish they would have went DSG, love the DSG in my Audi.
-
I just said, there's not enough difference to warrant buying a ST over a new Edge Sport that is still on the lot. I stated when changing generations, nothing about model years. Also C&D has yet to review a ST. MotorTrend (would have rather used C&D...but...) pulled a 87 on skidpad with the Sport and a 88 with the ST. I'd rather have the 8spd transmission in the ST, sucks they didn't go DSG though. The vehicles are pretty much the same is what I said, and judging by the reviews rolling out, there is lots of disappointment with the ST except by people on this site which is very understandable. It's too early to judge owner impressions on the ST but from the looks of it...shit's still breaking like it was on the Sport and my Sport looks like it was built by a blind person on the outside and inside, so hopefully they sorted that out too. just noticed the skidpad on CD .89g def an upgrade there.

it requires premium for best performance
-
you keep talking about MPG, when the Department of Energy lists the Edge Sport and ST getting the same exact fuel economy... My wife gets 23mpg in my tuned sport, so as far as I am concerned MPG is totally irrelevant specially if buying a performance vehicle that requires premium for opt performance. Fuel economy was a major factor in someones car buying decision, they def would not be looking at a performance crossover requiring premium to obtain peak performance
-
yeah, thats why I said I'd take the 18, financially it's the better deal cause your still getting the same performance
-
all the 2nd Gen 2018 Edges are still new, I'm not talking about buying a used car. 2nd gens are still outnumbering 2.5gens on lots(the ones I've been to to look for a ST). Shit I haven't even seen a 2.5 gen period on the road and that's two major cities, San Diego and Phoenix.
-
I'm in no way saying they are marketed towards each other. That is silly. I'm stating that the previous gen is the basis for the upcoming change. It's the spirit of competition. You wouldn't buy a brand new iphone if the specs were less than your current iphone. quite frankly, if I was shopping for an Edge right now, and you had an 19 ST and a 18/19 (dunno what they called all the sports sold this year) Edge Sport, I would take the Sport in a heart beat due to the huge price difference, and it's not cause I own a Sport either, cause I'd trade my Sport tomorrow if this S7 was just a tad lower in price.
-
Thats the same as saying, when the new body style Mustang comes out, comparing it to the outgoing model is a gimmick. It's not a gimmick, it's the baseline for going forward. 2010 Sport was out done by the 2011-14 Sport which was outdone by the 2015-18 Sport and Now we have the ST, that out does all of them in MPG and highest price....that's not what people want. I'm still waiting on tuned 1/4 mile times to really judge if it's faster, cause we all know that LMS dyno numbers on the tuned ST are very very low Who is buying a performance crossover with MPG on their mind? they make a 2.o for those people.

every successor competes with it's predecessor, it's always been like that, always will.
