2012 SEL LED Headlights
PrinzII replied to kshawks's topic in Glass, Lenses, Lighting, Mirrors, Sunroof (BAMR), Wipers
Case in point, I have HIDs that are 3200 lumens (1600+1600) and I am planning to upgrade to LEDs that are 9000 lumens (4500+4500). Both will have a 5000K color temperature. -
WE WANT APPS ON MY FORD TOUCH!
PrinzII replied to CinnamonEdge's topic in Audio, Backup, Navigation & SYNC
The big concern will be the hardware itself. Will that be updated as well to accommodate more smartphones and tablets? -

In Lickskillet's thread, the point about aiming was raised. I will make sure the lights are properly aimed so that I don't blind oncoming drivers. -
Lickskillet: As previously mentioned, I do face a LOT of things when driving around Arizona such as deer, pitch black roads, etc. The impetus for my current lighting upgrade is based on a recent trip driving to Chicago from Phoenix. Long story short, my wife complained that the visibility (I actually have 5000K HIDs (3200 lumens)) was very poor, especially on the I-40 corridor. I am seriously considering the VLED LED headlight kit for these reasons. 1) The light output of 4500 lumens/side is going to be a serious improvement (especially with us planning a couple of trips back up to Chicago) 2) The VLED kit also has a collar that allows for adjustment from left to right, not just up and down. Some HID kits tend to throw the beam off-center and there's no way to correct that. 3) I have had to replace multiple ballasts with my HID kit due to the extreme heat. The LED kit will mitigate that. In addition, I am also throwing on a VisionX LED light bar for auxiliary lighting. The light bar is an additional 8000+ lumens of light plus it will have 40 degree LEDs for light coverage.

I am liking what I see. How much is the MSRP?

When the LED bar is being installed, I'll see if the shop will let me take pics of it during the process. -
Performance mods you would like to see for the Edge/MKX
PrinzII replied to WWWPerfA_ZN0W's topic in Mods & Tech
Oh, one thing that has been on my mind for a while is polyurethane performance bushings to replace the stock rubber units (including the engine mounts). Those will definitely help in the handling department by reducing the deflection that comes from rubber bushings. Also, they provide better isolation for engine vibration(s).- 32 replies

PrinzII replied to WWWPerfA_ZN0W's topic in Mods & Tech
The weakest link, IMO, is the transaxle and the way it is geared. However, one of the coolest things with the Edge is that the axles are limited slip. However, what if you have an AWD Edge? IIRC, they do not have the same Haldex system as the SHO and many Volvos. That means you would definitely need an upgraded PTU as well as enhanced seals.- 32 replies

What have you done to/with your Edge/MKX today?
PrinzII replied to WWWPerfA_ZN0W's topic in Accessories & Modifications
Mine got to rest after a long week of driving. -
If you have the White Pearl Tintcoat, you might want to factor in the cost of three stages of paint.

Quite honestly, I would like to be able to use apps like Waze on my touch screen using AppLink. -

Well, pretty soon, the HIDs will be gone and LEDs in their place. -
Facelifting 2008 in 2014 ? it is possible?
PrinzII replied to EDST777's topic in Interior, A.C., Heat, Interior Trim
Given that I have worked in a body shop before, I definitely saw the width difference as an issue. On top of that, you'd have to replace the hood. -
Facelifting 2008 in 2014 ? it is possible?
PrinzII replied to EDST777's topic in Interior, A.C., Heat, Interior Trim
One thing is that the width of the two vehicles is slightly different. For instance, the width of the 2007-2010 is .2 inches narrower than the 2011-2014. I am guessing that you would have to do some finessing/tweaking in order to get that to fit. -

But one thing that's been in the back of my mind is that when peeps get 55w HID kits, they get relays so that the battery directly powers the headlights. These LEDs are 45w. I am wondering if a relay harness will be needed. -

From what I am reading, you are trying to put the 2011-2014 front clip (Fenders, headlights, grille, hood) onto a 2008 Edge. Am I correct in that guess? -

Outside of that, I am going to have to replace the backup lights. One of them is incredibly dim. This might be the point where I get Dan's LED taillight with the LED kit for the turn signal and backup light. Translation: The lighting mod list groweth. -

I changed the title to "What to expect at 200,000+ miles" and pinned it because it has so much good information.

I am subscribing to this thread as my 2011 Edge is knocking on 100,000 miles.

If he does, Ford should give him something to recognize the feat.
