Tapping factory amp output
dummptyhummpty replied to dummptyhummpty's topic in Audio, Backup, Navigation & SYNC
Does the adapter allow you to tap without cutting wires? If I tap at the rear of the headunit, will I lose the sync voice over? -
Yep. It's pretty strange! We were concerned about having to shovel the driveway, but someone came by and cleared it (rental cabin). The roads were plowed that morning, but the Edge did fine in the bit of snow that had accumulated by the time we left. Going to the snow was one of my factors in buying it.

In the snow? That's good to know. Unfortunately in CA, when you get up into the mountains you are required to carry chains. Wouldn't want to chance needing them and not being able to use them.

Andrew, I called Clear Pro and spoke with Lance. I really like that they offer to come to me to do the install. I'm still deciding between partial hood/partial fenders, full hood/partial fenders or full hood/full fenders. Any thoughts? I see you did partial.

Tapping factory amp output
dummptyhummpty replied to dummptyhummpty's topic in Audio, Backup, Navigation & SYNC
So are you just taping them with wire taps or cutting and splicing? -
It takes about an hour to an hour and a half using the spare tire jack. I found out that there's an adapter so that I can use my floor jack which should save time. I'll see about leaving them on longer next season, but I'll probably only go up once or twice a month.

A few months ago I went with some friends to Big Bear City, CA for a snowboarding trip. After trying to drive back to L.A. in my friend's VW GTI during a snow storm and since I plan to go snowboarding more often, I knew my future sport would need to be AWD. We made the trip again two weeks ago in my sport. It was able to comfortably hold five people, all of our stuff and drove fine in the snow. Since I can't put chains on the 22s and since CA law requires you to carry chains in that area, I decided to get a set of KMC Rockstars with dedicated Bridgestone Blizzak snow tires. It was really interesting to feel the difference with the lighter wheels. My MPG also seemed to improve, but this could be due to the speedometer reading a bit fast. It ended up snowing over night so we hit a bit of snow when leaving. It was nice not to have to worry about putting on chains and to feel a bit more comfortable driving around town. I just wanted to share my experience and I've uploaded some pictures from the trip in my gallery. Thanks for reading!

Around $42. It basically took care of tax.

Thanks, I'll give them a call when I'm ready. Thank you!

I'm trying not to mess with the sound system in my Edge, but I've been reviewing the installs on here and was curious how people have been tapping the output on the factory amp. Is there a harness that one can buy or are people just cutting the wires? I did that on my BMW, but won't do that on this car.

Thanks! Did you have your Edge detailed before or is a good wash enough?

For those of you with a Sport, are you ordering the 5ft x 1ft kit?
-
Thanks! I've been debating that. My M had a lot of rock chips that you could easily see since it's black. I'm not sure how much they will show up on the white Edge. Any pictures of a clear bra on a white Edge? Thanks! :-) Thank you! I checked those links and it's just what I've been seeing. Looks like we need AppLink for what I'm looking for.
