same boat exactly. for me, I needed those 2 options. Bummer that sent me into the Limited.. but it was the only way. Then, you will have to try to get the dealer to change out the wheels and credit you the coin back. which is funny in a way as it is a downgrade in wheels to them and an upgrade to me good luck... report back what you do and how the dealer handles it..

I would have been just fine with the SEL if I could have gotten those 2 packages I wanted - they are valuable to me. Not being able get them both was the only reason I had to go to a Limited. From my research, there are 4 things you get in the Limited that do not come on SEL - and none mattered to me but #4.. 1 - you get the Limited badge on the rear 2 - you get the 'nicer' chrome clad wheels 3 - the 'beltline molding' (the trim piece under the length of the side windows) is chrome on the Limited and black on SEL 4 - you can do both Premium Package and the Seating Flexibility Package So, if you can get the key pieces/options you want in the SEL - which is seems you can - I see no reason to not go for it and save a little coin - same car minus these things

Deciding which interior leather color on White Sand Limited
Lex Talionis replied to cmoses's topic in 2008 Edge & MKX
there are some real good picts... clean... says it all.. this reinforces - to me - that I made a great decision with the white sand and black.. looks saweeet (and yeah, gotta tint those front windows to match for sure). -
on gosh... okay okay.. yes, this agreement is with my local dealer. not ordered that way. you cannot order a Limited with SEL wheels. Ford will not do it.
-
hey.. I am the dude that had the limited built BUT with the agreement to get the Premium Painted Wheels (64P) and get a $489 credit (invoice price diff). I feel the same way about those clad wheels.. icky - so, yeah, just ask and see what comes of it... Also, I tried to build a loaded SEL but one of the set of features I wanted CANNOT be done on the SEL, and I wanted it, so I ended up having to do the Limited to get just what I want. That is, you cannot get the Premium Package and the Seating Flexibility Package in the SEL - to have both... need the Limited.

Disapointed in 2008 Edge Navigation - Least of all with POI's
Lex Talionis replied to Tiffany's topic in 2008 Edge & MKX
funny that this same issue/concern does not effect all the thousands of after-market GPS devices sitting stuck to peoples windshields (which is illegal in CA actually)... you can manipulate those while driving, both driver and passenger, but no overrides on these built-ins. My Dads Lexus is the same.. no use while driving.. so you must pull over and make a change and start driving again = PITA. I would think they would understand that many drive with passengers who are capable of being the navigator and making on the fly changes.. so an override would be obvious. -
2007 Edge - Stronge Gas Smell in Garage after complete fill-up
Lex Talionis replied to svgfbg's topic in Ford Edge Forum
you can see symptoms like this when you have possibly overfilled and there are little vent lines off the gas tank and the fuel runs up those lines and you pickup the smell. the vent lines are just for air to equalize the tank pressure and bleed off of vapor build up due to hot and cold and hot and cold pressure - but in some cases, over filling or an issue with those vent lines causes fuel to come up them rather than air or vapor. an overly full tank sloshing around after a fill up might create this effect. this would be my guess. -
Car wash beat up my brand new Edge!
Lex Talionis replied to pgribbin's topic in Appearance - Detailing, Wash & Wax
I would say you are right on about what you think happened. no doubt. Taking the photos of their brushes is a good call as it may be needed, documentation is the best as it shows the train of events and make them aware of it ASAP and not like a week later. Naturally, he will deny deny deny. as for the other questions... I would think insurance might dictate some of this versus out of pocket cost. For example, I think (and have seen in my own past cases) the dealer will be more expensive than 3rd party. Plus, in this day and age, they all can get the same computer matched paint codes and I am not convinced a dealer has a body shop any better than a repair shop that only does body work. Plus, I suspect a body shop would be faster to get you in and out than the dealer... heck, it can take a week to arrange an oil change and then 2 hours to get a 15 minute job I am no pro on any of this, but as for fade... they will have to paint whole panels to make sure a panel matches the rest of the body versus just part of a panel. This way, the joint between panels brakes up - subtly - any minor or very slight paint differences (if any). Plus, this will also help to make sure that whole panel fades equally over time. As well, you are so early in your cars life, which sucks, but is good in that you have no real fade at this time so it is not like trying to match brand new painted panels to the rest of a faded body. I know its late now, but this is why brush-less washers - essentially high pressure spray only touching the car - is the best way if you cannot wash it yourself. -

Deciding which interior leather color on White Sand Limited
Lex Talionis replied to cmoses's topic in 2008 Edge & MKX
I debated this a lot with myself as I ordered a white sand tri coat. BEST thing I did was go to the dealer and see it and I did 1 thing that made up my mind right on the spot... I climbed in the back to lay down. sounds odd.. but right at that moment I saw just how bad the camel shows the slightest bit of dirt - and others comment about that fact here as well. I loved the 'idea' of camel as I thought it felt a bit more 'elegant' (to a degree), but seeing that.. my lifestyle would destroy the inside of that car (lots of bikes and beach gear and camping) and I looked around the ones on the lot, the floors were a mess as well as the space between where people put their feet as feet and objects slide across the interior. At that moment, I ordered the black. Personally, I have always felt the med light stone felt 'cheap' to me for some reason - so it was never an option. also, it seemed that much of the camel is actually charcoal black interior in places, so the more I looked at it, the more I started to like the cleaner charcoal black as it did not seem as disjointed. did you see this: http://www.fordvehicles.com/crossovers/edge/gallery/colors/ - pretty cool tool -
2007 Ford Edge: Technical Service Bulletins (TSB)
Lex Talionis replied to Edge Guide's topic in Recalls, TSBs & Warranty
just curious.. and it might be a stretch... but is there a way to determine what of these TSB's is permanently addressed in the builds: Job #1, Job #2, etc.? -
bummer story... I would push for them to do the right thing here assuming you can show many examples of good hoods versus yours. I hate it when you make a purchase - big or small - and then when you find an issue are made to feel like your the pushy bad guy for wanting it right. BTW, some photos would be great for this thread as a lot more people could chime in about what they have - versus what they see in your photos.

Hey thanks for the info... and clarification on semantics.. as the average Joe, did not realize the difference existed per se - but makes sense.. don't want to give them a bad rap and was speaking more generically about issues overall that are acknowledged and known. You know you might have inadvertently answered an old question of mine.. as I just realized now that you say Job #1 and Job #2... when I had that thread going about the price difference and how it was lower at the dealer but when I custom ordered, the price went up on the BAMR and Limited's base cost and no one could definitively say why - well the fax I was sent talks about and mentions that "what we looked at on the floor was Job #1" and he states, "now they are building Job #2" - which meant nothing to me at the time - but which kind of now makes it clear to me that maybe some of the reason for that price increase I saw from floor model versus ordering was that maybe part of Job #2 was an increase in price to cover the cost of some of these 'fixes or improvements'? Seems logical..
-
I am curious if/how/when they start to roll fixes for known documented issues into improvements on subsequent cars? I have read about some known issues here they are addressing under recalls and warranty: transmission seals, rattling trim on BAMR, creaky wheels, etc and wonder if they just fix these issues as they come up 1x1 or actually try to improve and address the issue on the line ASAP? For example, in these known issues, do they go right to the assembly line plant level and start to fix them on all subsequent cars that roll off the floor as soon as they learn about it and acknowledge it so that subsequent cars do not have the costly issues they may have to repair. Or is that much to costly doing that as the line is rolling, parts are in stock, robots are building and it is more cost effective to just wait until they are asked to fix it by the owner? Or, as a third option, do they just wait until next production year to roll in all the fixes they became aware of and let current production year carry forward as it is? I would be curious for if a person custom ordered a car to be built after these known warranty issues, are those vehicles less likely to have those issues and benefit from those recalls?

Aftermarket roof rack with Vista roof?

ya think???? :shades: I was addressing the issue of roof racks in general.. the bike mention was a side note.. but I know who much you love to pick out the literal details and miss extrapolating the big picture.. so I will be cleaer next time.. as a matter of fact.. I will fix my post just for you. -
Aftermarket roof rack with Vista roof?
Lex Talionis replied to BTMead's topic in Interior, A.C., Heat, Interior Trim
I was under the impression it cannot be done with the BAMR... they need the room for the internal mechanisms to run the roof and thus, there is no rain gutter or ports/area for the rack to tie into. With Yakima.. the 'racks' they have assume you have the factory Edge rails and want to add racks (cross bars) to the factory rails and then attach your toys. BUT, the BAMR allows no factory rails - as no spot for them - so no rack. I even went and looked on top of the car thinking there must be the tie in points (gutter or covered over ports to pop open and expose the bolt holes) and I would just do it anyway, but no dice. nothing there to tie rails into. so.. I will, like many others, be getting a hitch setup for my bikes - NOTE: which will not help you in the case of wanting to add kayaks, skis, surfboards, a ladder, snowboards, 2x4's, a cargo carrier, decking materials, or a Christmas tree next year. This is one of the bigger drawbacks for me, but that BAMR is so BADA$$ I had to have it and so.. -
and the funny thing is that Black is not really black... it is a charcoal black... noticeably lighter than actual black - which I have in my current VW. BTW, this is the best tool they have online for color viewing: http://www.fordvehicles.com/crossovers/edge/gallery/colors/

So what's the diff between a $300-400 kit like those Xetronics and a $50-100 kit off eBay or the above link in #32? Is the quality or durability that different? or is one just paying for the name? -
Hiding Unsightly Wires...
Lex Talionis replied to Jimibigguns's topic in Interior, A.C., Heat, Interior Trim
another tip I would add. you can go to Radio Shack and get very handy in-line fuses. they are a cool screw top enclosed plastic tube that holds a fuse (put fuse in a and close and the circuit is complete) and you put that inline with your power/hot.. this way, added protection. I have done this for all of my after-market mods (air suspension, pusher fan, KC lights, fuel pump for rear tank, etc.) and wiring needs on my FJ40 and it is a nice feature and saves the electronics for a mere 7-8$. -

did you make sure you have the latest Navteq DVD - will say 6p on it (printed right on DVD). You likely do if you have a 2008 - but I have seen a drawer full of them at the dealers and they often do not even know what they are grabbing as they reach in and you might have gotten an older DVD set than 6p? update: you got me interested and I went searching on the POS facts for the 6p DVD and sure enough, only 1.57 million... This DVD map update contains coverage across the continental United States and Canada as well as Alaska and Hawaii. It contains over 6.06 million miles of road and features more than 1.57 million updated points-of-interest including over: 449,700 restaurants 68,700 hotels 103,800 banks 108,000 ATMs 90,800 gas stations 245,600 auto service & maintenance locations 14,900 tourist attractions -

Hiding Unsightly Wires...
Lex Talionis replied to Jimibigguns's topic in Interior, A.C., Heat, Interior Trim
I have also cut wires and wired right into the fuse box (or even the battery depending on the need) and did just that on my Sirius in my current car. You cannot see a single wire that runs from the back of my VW and down through the car and up to the dash. I also pull up the panels and pillar molding and molding at the feet and have even drilled well concealed holes to pull wire through. I also hate exposed wires as well.
