HID Lights
Lex Talionis replied to sonyguy19's topic in Glass, Lenses, Lighting, Mirrors, Sunroof (BAMR), Wipers
yep.. just got off the phone with Todd this am and we got to talking about this plastic piece and sure enough, as you can see in my photos, I left on that plastic opaque ring that sits behind the red rubber seal thinking it was used to sandwhich in the rubber seal.. , so for tiaquessa and I, this just might be the reason for the whacky jagged pattern we are getting as that piece is not allowing the bulb to go in and seat the full distance into the reflector it is suppose to. In retrospect, I recalled thinking it odd that the bulb did not turn home as far as the OEM did, but it did turn home and stay solid so I assumed that is just how it was, and this piece is the reason why! I will report back tonight the effect removing that piece had on my light pattern. -
Replace factory speakers
Lex Talionis replied to rpp1965's topic in Audio, Backup, Navigation & SYNC
yep, saw those BUT the Infinity's are listed here as liked by others plus there are like 25 ratings on the Infinities and 0 on the JL Audio. I do not know much about audio items like speakers, enough to tell what I like, but in absence of hearing anything it seems like user feedback ratings are a great way to go and I would like to do same style in both doors. plus I think Infinity are a bit cheaper (great prices on eBay as well). to me.. I know nada about JL or Infinity - just what others mention as solid performers and quality. -
I SCORED on my ordered 2008 Limted.. oh yeah

noles.. search here in the accessories section and you will see posts on the bumper saver - sold by a person here on the forum, "ALS" I believe and phone number is on the site here under Bumper Saver threads and the cargo matt is Weather Tech - I bought from Realtruck.com also see posts about that on here also. both are NOT dealer items but bought after market. enjoy -
Did you actually do this yet with the Infinity Kappa 682.7cf speakers in BOTH front and rear? I know they fit in the front.. but I understand they will NOT fit in the back as the depth in the rear doors is not deep enough and these speakers will hit or push on the mesh grill when you go to put the rear door panels back on... can you confirm or deny this please? also, if you did do this.. what do you think about the sound improvement from these actual speakers?

Replace factory speakers
Lex Talionis replied to rpp1965's topic in Audio, Backup, Navigation & SYNC
so essentially.... 1. you buy 4 speakers for the 9 speaker system in the 2008 Limited? 2 for each front doors and 2 for rear doors? 2. would it be worth it, or a waste, to do some nice front seats and not do the back seats.. or would that just cancel each other out and be crummy? -

yes, those pigtails, as per other posts where I mention how the colors line up wire to wire, push into your factory harness. may not seem water resistant, I just electrical taped mine like 99% of the other stuff under the hood is. pretty high up connection, so I am not worried.. but a boot of some type would be nice. yes, I agree on this 100%. I noticed while driving in AZ recently. Just this very morning I started having emails with Todd about it and he is going to have me check a list of a few things... but my personal guess is that it is our stock not HID compliant reflectors. it is noticable and I would like to correct it if possible, but could live with it if not. I was going to wait until I had cause and fix before I posted about it, but since you mention it.... this is an overlay of what I am seeing... I will post up when I check his 4 points and we will see if this is adjustable. sorry for crap photo, but the goal was nothing more then to try to snap a photo so I could outline the edge to make a point. -

well, no and that is because you installed it in a preexisting hole using that clip.. which limits you to where you could have installed as you had to find that hole or a similar hole for the clip and work there. In my case, I installed where I wanted as I wanted and drilled a small hole where I wanted as backup for the tape. I guess 6 of 1 half dozen of the other as they say. -
Screen Protectors for the Navigation

hmm.. this one has some promise if the claim is true as it hits 2 key points: -Designed to be removed without leaving a residue (this implies it is not the stiffer plastic ones I have used but a more flexible static adhesion I have also seen on other items like bike computer screens) -Will not cause bubbles nor come off on the corners (again, implies a flexibility that some I have used do not have) -

okay...so the speed clip is an additional method to hold the ballast in place it seems, you have the black clip that holds the ballasts and then you have this speed clip as an additional ballast securing method and the type of this clip method is attaching to this "oval" hole... if I have that straight.. I do not have those. I just used foam back stick tape and my digital ballasts have a screw hole - see my photos in gallery - that I just used a self tapping screw to bolt into the plastic for added support to the foam tape... I guess it is my ballast's version of the "speed clip" -
Can I go on a Trip ----- Charleston - SC ?
Lex Talionis replied to snowy_edge's topic in Mods & Tech
drive it! personally...I would never let something like this stop me from driving the car. you bought the car to use it.. heck... use it. I just did an 800 mile round trip in 2 days to AZ having only about 200 miles on mine.. I bought it to use it, so I use it .. and I used the CC 99% of the time on open highway - was not going to spend my time/life monitoring speed and slowing and speeding and slowing and speeding and stopping... bah - I got places to go and people to see -

ditto.. the one thing about these - if they exist and if they work anything like those for electronics like camera LCDs or phones - is it is SO hard to apply them bubble free -

"is a u-shaped piece of metal that can clamp in the oval hole and tightens when it is screwed in" okay.. but tightening down what? what is it doing? I understand what hole it goes into, but not what it is holding and tightening down and keeping sturdy? neither the description or diagram elude to this. -

who's HID kit is that? those ballasts do not look at al like the retro-solutions kit.. at least that I have. What do you mean by this mention of the speedclips "Low Beam Driver's side install requires the installation of a speedclip in a 2" oval hole in the fender"? Are you calling that black device that holds the ballast a "speedclip"? -
have you seen some of the HID photos versus yours? I am curious... for the not as crucial fogs... is that why you went the bulb route versus HID kit route for that reason? How do you think your bulbs look versus photos of HID kit fogs? I can see on fogs doing bulbs for as little use as I get in CA. But curious your own feedback.

3 Things I really hate about my 2008 EDGE

available for Edge on eBay for 90$ FWIW -
I do not think mine is temp related as it is not cold here in SoCal plus I just did a trip to AZ for the last day and found it to be an intermittent problem. Spoke with Ford on Friday and there is NO way to set a default to always be USb... it will always and forever default to Line In. But, it seems not to be working as it should. hmmm....

this HID thread has hella good info on this topic - even photos: click here

did you just do simple yellow bulb swap out or an actual HID 2-3000k kit in yellow?
-
I am not a big fan and would not likely do one... I do understand their value.... but this what you mean? On eBay there are these clear vinyl type kits that are see thru and go on critical parts of the car - like hood - for protection. kind of interesting.

Pics of my HID install
Lex Talionis replied to bluv69k's topic in Interior, A.C., Heat, Interior Trim
YES - they must be turned off. NO you cannot do it yourself. You need to got the dealer to have it done. Hook it up to electronics and turn the function off in like 5 minutes. Search DRL here and you will see more details on how to get it turned on (and thus, off). As for why.... I am paraphrasing my understabding here simpistically... but I understand that the DRL function pulls the power for the DRL lights function at a very low level and this interferes with the correct digital ballast function at some level. (or something like that). Either way, it seems to have been established that the 2 key things it seems for HID for our cars: (1) turn off DRL and (2) use digital ballasts only. There are better mentions I think of why DRL interferes elsewhere on the boards, I just did not recall exactly if I have it right. -
funny thing is.. I am researching this next myself. I had not considered fogs before, but seeing how bitchen the HIDs turned out.. I am now contemplated fogs and doing them in yellow (2000k @ 35w) tentatively. In asking Todd about this subject, he had this recommendation of yellow - but I did not get into why or benefits just yet. I have not delved to deep into fogs yet, but I am sure like everything, I will research the out of it and then decide once I master the topic. The 'idea' sounds cool and I have seen some posted up on HID specific boards and like, but my knowledge on fogs is at a passing glance right now versus on actual HID topic for our cars I am pretty versed on. Other may know more, and Todd would for sure. post up what you learn as I would be curious myself.
