  1. true that.. I did mine in like 5 seconds as it is just hand tight. this whole topic got me thinking about replacing that uber antenna - which I never really did like from the start but did not think too much of it - and I wanted to see just how well it was attached.. hand tight at best. take it off, toss it in the center console and away you go
  2. don't be so quick to want to bail on it.. try it... you might just like it. it is pretty affordable and you get 6 months free - some I have heard a year, guess it depends on your area - so you might get swayed in that free trial period. once I listened to Satellite I have NEVER - not one time in 2 years - gone back to regular radio. I now have 3 subscriptions. AND, as of this past week, if the FCC signs off to the agreed approved merger, Sirius and XM will merge and this likely means even more channels to select from as they combine. Satellite rocks...
  3. no worries.. really only an issue if you badly wanted them in the rears I suppose.. you did read my install though and saw that I pulled it off perfect without any issues and made no mention of them touching the grill, but still believed CF :shades: anyway, I am sure what you got will rock and it WILL be better than stock for damn sure. as we know, there is no way they can test all speakers in all cars (front and rear to boot)... they likely just use speaker and door panel dimensions from the manufacturer to guesstimate probable fitment - but were wrong in this case. good luck... post back when you get them installed as then we will have another rear option for people to read about.
  4. to resurrect this topic - as I love the idea of bobbing this antenna as I NEVER listen to AM/FM radio given I have Satellite and/or iPod so do not really care if it was there but need something of course.... I understand the GPS antenna is in the dash and the Satellite antenna is on the rear spoiler, so am I assuming correct that the front antenna is nothing but AM/FM radio so swapping it would only affect radio reception?... can anyone confirm that the front mounted antenna is purely just for the AM/FM radio? confirmed this to be true from dealer last, can anyone confirm the screw size of that antenna into the base (5mm/10-32 or 6mm)? UPDATE: I just ordered a black aluminum stubby antenna today to give this a whirl and see what comes of it. I ordered a 2.4" antenna (yes, I know the reception will likely suffer, but I truly couldn't care less). The stock antenna is a flexible 11.5" and that 2.4" is about as short as it goes - I did find one about 2" but didn't like design. UPDATE 2: I did this.. should stop the antenna from interfering with any rack, it it is cheap mod to do: see here
  5. as I just posted to your thread, and want to do here so it is known and clear... for the record... this is absolutely, 100% not true. I have Infinity Kappa 682.7cf in both front and rear - as you know - and they are not even close to touching the grill/door panel. not even close. CF is wrong. there is a solid 1/2 inch from Tweeter to the door panel grill. Here is a photo. I know, it is very hard to capture this thru the grill.. but the best I can offer. No matter what, from an angle, you can clearly see nearly .5 inches of space.
  6. for the record... this is absolutely, 100% not true. I have Infinity Kappa 682.7cf in both front and rear - as you know as you read the install report of mine with photos - and they are not even close to touching the grill/door panel. not even close. not sure where you got that information from? but there is a solid 1/2 inch from Tweeter to the door panel grill.
  7. I would hardly let this sway my decision to buy a great car. The antenna is flexible, it will bend. I, my chick, my brother and most all of my friends surf here in SoCal and though I ride a short board and can fit it in my car (thanks to the seating flexibility package whereby the front passenger seat folds flat), where there is a will there is a way. I cannot put the board up top myself since I have the BAMR roof - so no rack - but if you did do a rack you 'could' compensate with a possible taller tower extensions and the board pads would all add a few inches in height from roof top.. taking some of the pressure off bending the antenna. but in the end, unless you drive around with your board on the rack 24/7 (which some people here do I admit), I would just let the antenna bend and get on with buying the car I also found this in searching the internets for topics on replacement antennas - I was actually thinking someone might already make an after-market shark fin antenna at this stage: http://www.fordedgeforum.com/index.php?showtopic=235 but they have some links to some stubby short antenna replacements which might be an option. you know... I also got to looking at this more and see that the antenna on the Edge is actually more towards the windshield than the roof. that is, it is on the down slope curve of the roof. point is.. when you actually put a rack on with the height of the towers and what not, this may just not be as much as an issue as one might think. for a better visual, look at this thread post about a roof rack on an Edge... http://www.fordedgeforum.com/index.php?s=&...ost&p=14881 notice the antenna, when all said and done with a rack on top, is not majorly getting n the way of the rack and visually it looks like a board would fit on top with minimal bending of the antenna.. or no bending if you went to a stubby antenna.
  8. I understand your concern.. but do you think one of the largest electronics sellers with one of the best names in the industry for consumer electronics on the web, who got its start in the car stereo arena, would knowingly advise you to buy a speaker that would damage your system? anyway, the stock speakers are stamped 4 ohm
  9. you know... those adaptors might already be a part of the speakers you already have. look at these photos of the stock speakers I took out. There is what appears to be a plate that is attached to the front of the speakers by star nuts. I did not take it off, but thought it odd there was that piece as I was not sure why it was additionally there, but it looks alot like the link akirby gave and the item you mention.
  10. if they made cars out of carbon fibre... I would drive those... I am a carbon junkie, here is just one of my carbon factory rides (of 6). I put more miles on bikes - literally about 10500 per year average - than any car I have ever owned in the last 15 years. At this time, this is the only full Token ride I know of in all of SoCal, so not something you will see everyday.
  11. yes.. 6x8 is correct. I cant say about fit of 5x7.. but for 2 ohm I would not worry. If CF reccomneds them, one can feel comfortable they feel col with it and if they feel cool, I am feeling cool with it. BTW, you can get the Infinity Kappas I got for much less off eBay. Nice thing about CF is they give you a plug and play harness and directions with their stuff. Great when installing a complicated head unit or DVD nav system with factory wiring to try to comprehend and tie to.. BUT, in this case, speaker installs are pretty easy and so I was not willing to pay extra for a harness & directions I did not need.
  12. we sound somewhat similar on needs.. I amVERY happy with the Infinity Kappa 682.7cf - they WILL fit despite CF saying they will not in the rears read about it here
  13. nice of you to say.. thanks I still have a few more accessories/mods in mind... but it is about 90% where I want it now (unless someone comes out with something else I just must have that I didn't know I needed).
  14. similar story here. I have Weathertech mats in my VW and love them and planned to do them in my Edge.... then the dealer gave me - yep gave me - the all weather Ford models and I am happy enough with them that I am going to just do those. Similar heavy duty rubber, maybe not as deep grooves, but plenty good for me. You can see photos of them in my gallery and as far as I could find on the web, those are the only full photos around when I took mine. The Ford accessories website shows the corner of just the front driver.
  15. this is an easy one.. this is the cars way of telling you "are you crazy? who wants to listen to FM radio when you can listen to SAT radio".. then it simply revolts on having to listen to crap FM and shuts down. I hope this helps
  16. how about a photo of this contraption... I don't need a photo of the dolphin as I have the matching skull from the same series - just the final setup you describe. sounds a tad bit messy for me, but I would be curious to see it none the less.
  17. I have not received my official Title yet.. but when I used the Ford tool to search my VIN number a bit back when it was released, it lists mine as "Truck/SUV" for Vehicle Type. This is in SoCal. Funny thing is, I also often say "my truck" and have to correct myself. Maybe it is because I am coming from a car that is physically smaller. But I feel odd calling the Edge a "car", but it sounds odd to say "crossover"
  18. was this still on your 89 tune? so, your suggesting (not scientifically I understand) that your results show both a personally noticeable straight performance improvement (your prime goal) and a slight mpg increase (despite just aiming for performance) both on a 'performance' oriented tune? Not that you can answer this, but I would also be curious as to any difference that might arise between an AWD and a FWD. For example, I wonder if your performance (throttle off the line) is more noticeable with AWD than one might find on FWD. And I wonder if your assumed mpg increase is less for your AWD than one might gain from a FWD. this has certainly peeked my interest. Please, keep providing data as you learn along the way how this unfolds for you. nice to have someone with an actual edge conducting this real world use tests.
  19. originally, the cat that started this thread stated he has been working on these specific tunes: "87 Octane-Fuel Economy, 87 Octane-Performance, 91 Octane-Performance, and 93 Octane-Performance." and then '3 Custom Tunes of your choice. 87 Octane-Fuel Economy, 87 Octane-Performance, 91 Octane-Performance, and 93 Octane-Performance.' now, you mention above the tunes you got. so, to get yours did you specify something specific to them for your 89 tune as he does not mention an 89 option or is that a new option? if you did, what was your direction to them.. straight performance? keep us posted. I would really be curious if someone trys a 'fuel economy' based tune to see what you really get and how badly it hinders performance to get said economy boost. I think all indications are clear that performance boost tunes are noticeable, but a report on economy based would be cool.
  20. ahh.. well, technically, NO after market user installed HID kit/bulb is legal. so, if that is a concern... stop here if you are willing to forgo that concern, as thousands seem to do, you need size H11 bulb and for color temp then it 'seems' the consensus is 4300, 5000, or 6000k are the ones most often selected. you can read ALL over the HID threads here - and the web and the 2 dealers threads I linked to - for the differences between each, photos, tips, installs and why one may select one color over the other. the high points: 4300k is most similar to stock HID kits seen on most cars that come with them and are pretty close to pure white. 5000k is a little bluer tint and not as much light output. 6000k is even a bit bluer tint and less light output. again, there is a ton of this already covered on this website in the numerous HID threads, but those are the high-points. I selected 5000k and love them. I DID want some blue tint, but not obnoxious and so 5000k from Retro-Solutions fit right in as the best selection for the look I wanted.
  21. From what I have read, yes, they can see you have made a modification. The talk has even come up about erasing the tune, uploading the default tune prior to going to the dealer, then reupload your tune when back from service. Now, I was curious though, I thought I also read that there is a limit to how many times these devices can upload tunes? is that true?
  22. It seems your question is just what you need to install HIDs? if so I, and others, use this kit and love it or Some also use this kit and like either way, either one of those links will tell you exactly what you need and what to do to install HID kit in your Edge.
  23. thanks for the info... so, did you run the tank nearly empty of 87, fill with 89, then load the tune? Or did you load the tune with 87 and mix in 89? 93 seems like it would be very hard to find (can't recall even ever seeing it) while 87, 89, 91 are common options at the stations. So, why would you not want a tune for the default 87 to see what it did for improvement on 87 (base level), then make you other two 89 and 91 which are easier to find?
  24. 64p is officially the Ford item you seek... I love mine over those plastics any day
