interesting.. not what I thought at all. I realize I have a 2008 versus your 2007 and my hatch release button is in that newly changed hatch cutout/handle. in that new cutout the little button is centered in between about 8 inches of total available space, so I was thinking yours was mounted up in that new hatch handle area and aiming down and off to the side. that s how I will/would do mine (if I ever find a mini LCD I am happy with). thanks.

Anyone know reason for new 18" prem painted wheel price adjustment?
Lex Talionis replied to chadgt's topic in 2008 Edge & MKX
likely.. as in my case.. that car did not come with those wheels, they put them on, and then have to adjust the price as the 18" pp are technically less expensive. In my case, it was a 490 credit to me when I negotiated out of the stock chrome clad into the 18" pp. maybe, they are kicking back less of a price, but it still is a better deal than taking those icky chrome clads -
Just for the sake of visually documenting this issue here, here are a pretty clear set of images that show this issue.. look at the first 2 images here - same color I have, same variation I have. To my eye, you can clearly see the the variation in the top 2 photos between body color and bumper color. the first photo you can really see it on the front bumper, the second photo you can really see it on the rear and a little on the front.

Which do you think is the better choice.....
Lex Talionis replied to Gate292's topic in Interior, A.C., Heat, Interior Trim
you, but more likely he, should read this thread: http://www.fordedgeforum.com/index.php?sho...c=1417&st=0 - will likely shed some light on this topic for him -
I need to alter my response in post #8.. that is, I was right about the functionality, BUT it seems there is an important caveat.. one that really matters in this case. That caveat is night versus day. You see, as I said, during the DAY, sure enough all the interior lights shut down - even with the boot open - IF you do the lock trick. Well, it seems, during the NIGHT even this trick does not work. While car camping I closed all the doors and wanted the boot open, did the lock the doors trick, and the lights never turned off. I speculate that the sensor that operates the light sensing auto dimming headlights/nav/mirror feature is playing a role and sensing it is dark and not shutting the lights off - even using the lock trick. Just as I said one DAY I was washing the car and had all doors open for over 30 minutes and the lights never turn off - then I locked the doors with the boot open and the lights cycled down. But at night, this seems not to work. Now... there is an issue and on top of that which came up, relative to this, for car camping. You can't shut off the feature that turns on your lights (puddle or headlights) when you unlock the car. This matters, as I found out, when you are car camping and across the road from another campsite and want to go in and out of your car.. POW you nail the other campsite with a nice dose of headlights. not cool. I could cycle down how long they stay on <0> seconds, but not that they come on when you unlock and enter the car. imagine the people across from you when you get up at 2 am to go to the bathroom and their campsite gets lit up. so.. you have really hit upon something here that is kind of a bummer for me as I do a lot of car camping like this when traveling for races and sleep in my car. I am going to have to develop a whole system for dealing with this. now, I MIGHT have a solution for turning off the interior lights. As you said, you could pull fuses to shut all the interior lights and exterior lights off. that too clunky. Well, in my VW, I rigged a toggle switch in the rear that allowed me to cut off the rear boot light that had no on/off switch. easy (for me) to wire and I could just flip it to shut it off/on so I could sleep with the boot open or get access in and out with no light on. But, in the Edge, when all doors closed with the boot open, ALL internal lights are on - not just boot. So, I am looking at a way to wire up, via the fuse box, #9,10,25 to a lit switch with inline fuse under the dash that would cut all internal lights. this might be my fix for this because as I see it, no other way to shut all your lights off.

gotta love those White Sands!

that would be great.. thanks..

nice I, as well, negotiated for the 18" premium painted wheels when I purchased.. I just knew it would look good, hated the chrome clads, so it was worth the effort to negotiate for them. and in the end, it seems we might have a side bonus of avoiding all the finish issues people are starting to report about those faux chrome clads.

yeah.. I hope they did not trash the car & surrounding dash taking your system out, putting one in and finding it bad, taking that out, putting that second claimed unit in, finding that bad as well and taking it back out, then installing the claimed final correct version... I hate this kind of ineptitude... especially from a dealer no less. but, not a real shock given what I have seen from dealers in the past. hope it works out.. post up the final outcome.

well I stand corrected in the time it takes to install.. but, I made one bad assumption.. I did not fully understand you were using a Ford Factory nav system. I thought you were having them install an after-market nav system - like others have done here - which appears to take well more than 1 hour to mate up to factory wiring and tie into the onboard system (Sync and such). I even remember, when I was looking to buy and could not find what I wanted, the dealer told me that could get a nav system, after-market, and have it installed and I said thanks, but no thanks. I wanted it factory done. so it took them 3 days to get the head unit, and they just happened to have been forward thinking enough and ordered 2.. hmmmm

1 better.. they key was not even in it no reason to have the key in it while washing and cleaning
-
well... though I have not done one of those intalls.. I call on a 1 hour job - but that is classic retail/dealer BS snow job for ya. There are several people here who have done an install themselves and pulled it off. So, kind of makes me wonder about user error on their end. Yeah, 2 bad head units is pretty slim, possible, but slim. But, who knows for sure. I wonder why you just did not order exactly what you wanted from the factory just the way you wanted it like I and others do? You can do that ya know. Yeah, it takes 4-6 weeks, but you get just what you want, no test drives, no abuse, just for you fresh with your options exact. Anyway... seems like, if they cannot get it to work, you can bail on the deal and move on and (1) order a fresh car as you want (2) have them search more until they find it (3) buy one and install yourself as it can clearly be done and has been done. On #3, at least you could install exactly what you want - and some of the ones out there have cooler features than the Factory (i.e., add a backup camera) - but may also lack features like Sync integration. did you look at this site and see if you can in fact locate exactly what you want near you? use the Search Dealer Inventory.. there might be one around a little farther out? worth a look.

of course it broke off.. thing is like a foot long bound to happen j/k anyway.. easy fix... look at this thread - stubby antenna after market or the same company offers a ton of antenna styles mo' cheaper than a factory Ford replacement mast
-
ah.. good point, I did not. this peeked my interest as I will sleep in my car at times while car camping (like this weekend).. so I needed the lights off.. I did not try the radio

Edge aftermarket tail lights?
Lex Talionis replied to edge22"'s topic in Interior, A.C., Heat, Interior Trim
Am I missing something?? why can't you just replace the bulbs with LED bulbs like numerous people have done here already? search the LED threads.. just buy LED bulbs (and resistors if you do turn signals) and make it happen. easy. -
yep exactly
-
So, I have always liked a subtle (LED bright white would be great to match LED bulbs I have, or even neon white) ignition key light so I do not have to stab around in the dark. plus, I just like the idea - one of those small detail things I wish the Edge had. anyone ever seen one after-market? This is pretty cool idea.. but maybe something more finished and purchasable ready to wire up.
-
sure enough... this will NOT happen. I washed the car today and had doors open for 30 minutes.. never went off. not until I did the lock doors trick while doors still open I said above did they shut off and still have doors and boot open.

The lamest Ford Edge Accessory I've Seen
Lex Talionis replied to Lex Talionis's topic in Interior, A.C., Heat, Interior Trim
just buy like 5 of those cheezy ones above, lay them end-2-end and there is your faux BAMR -
I have never understood the purpose of a dash cover? so, you get a dash cover to protect the dash. why? so it looks good. but when do you ever see the nice beautiful dash you are protecting and keeping looking good if it is under a cover never to be seen? what, you only take it off for special occasions?

XM.. bwa haa ha haa not! Sirius may suck, but everyone knows XM blows my Sirius.. home and car and car kit I just sold with my VW never cut out. I listen nearly 8-9 hours a day while working. that is not an issue for me
-
thanks.. I am going to listen to these and see if.. relative to other channels I listen to.. I can tell. part of what I wanted to see is if, as you happened to mention, there might be some way in their technology to change these by geo location. I would find that hard to believe, but hey, I am not that technical on the details - only high level understanding. For example, I wonder if areas in a more heavily populated region like CA with 'likely' more subscribers (and overall bandwidth usage) would have different compression rates than say.. Iowa.
-
For those of you that claim to hear such bad sound quality.. post up some actual channel numbers as I am dying to hear what you think sounds so bad. Granted, I have not been through all the possible channels, but I have had Sirius for many years (home and car kits) and as I said above, cannot discernibly notice this bad compression quality a few of you mention. I have my die hard fav channels, and they cover a gamut of genres, and just do not hear what you claim to hear and would think on at least one of my fav channels, I would sense this. so post up some channel numbers you think are bad I want to have a listen. maybe I have just listened to satellite for so long now, I have adapted to it and those of you coming right from terrestrial are freshly in tune to it.
