  1. http://www.navteq.com/ these guys provided the DVDs.. have you looked on their site for a/the foreign DVD you need?
  2. hmmm.. so you say you set it to play all songs in the iPod and then hook it to the USB cable while it is playing and that somehow keeps you connected AND keeps the true shuffle of Play All working, but just plugging in the iPod and selecting Play All via the Sync and you get the bug I mention on restart of car? seems like if you did that, the moment Sync acquires the iPod and the Ford logo shows up on the iPod screen, anything you were doing in the iPod is now stopped as the iPod is waiting for the Sync system to tell it what to do. Also, I would think the moment you make any other selection that you specifically want to listen to, like a genre or artist or album, that the steps you claim work for you would become null & void.. until you reset it up again like above?
  3. given the fact I live in SoCal.. not like I need fronts or backs much anyway
  4. I am a big fan of them on the front, as I have them there, but I have to admit, I am not really digging that double-upped ones on the rear.. I understand why you did it, it just does not work for my taste. good photos though for sure. BTW, I originally notched a big chunk out of mine. not only that, I pretty much used my own desired screw hole and used black RTV silicon to finish off a clean inner edge so no water could go between them and the actual fender well. looks great.
  5. so you do not even have the short term disable feature right when you switch into reverse? best be taking your car in then as that feature should be present. I do a lot of cycle racing and put a bike rack on and off often and use that short term feature often in those conditions versus shutting it down in the actual Info center, so you should have that. As for the fact that the Info center has an <0n> <off> option, but always defaults back to <on> that is very odd - I am also going to test and confirm that. It then begs the question as to why even have that as a settable option when it just defaults back to <on> as you will be better off just doing the short term disable then
  6. sweet... useful no doubt... key wires are great to know
  7. 87..... by whomever is selling it the cheapest I can find when I need it
  8. well isn't that a prime example of Occam's razor... well done. mine is much cooler but yours is much easier (well mine is pretty easy now that I have a switch to flip I suppose)... so, when you went to close the lift-gate, I assume you just hit unlock to open the latch mechanism so it did not slam down on the catch?
  9. just a quick follow up.. I tested this last night on the way home from a nice sunset ocean swim.... ahhh, the beauty of summer in SoCal... anyway, I did not have this issue. I was going right in that speed you report, and even faster at times and slower, and with all windows up and drivers down and sunshade closed, I report nothing I would notice enough to report.
  10. wow.... I just now came back to this topic to edit my last post up with a photo to document the issue.. and I saw this mean rant. You are assuming way way to much here. I simply only posted #13 up as a follow-up on the topic about what the manufacturers responded in an email to me, as it came direct from the source it seemed a valuable piece of data to provide to people, with exact product numbers they recommend so no one had to guess. nothing more... nothing less... and I got blasted for it... there was no malice on my end... just adding some direct from the manufacturer data I know would benefit others. but anyway.. here is a photo.. yes, just a simple photo so people can see the issue clearly... no, the clay bar and a recommended liquid decontamination product I in fact did buy locally as a first step did not work. (oops.. forgot to add the darn photo)
  11. some documented imagery.... pretty fugly on white paint... here is some poo that sat maybe a few hours. will not come out. this is a real bad situation as it continues. I just cannot spend my life watching for birds on my car and rush to clean it right off I tried a clay bar as recommended and tried some decontamination products I got locally as a first step and even ScratchX as recommended for this issue on their Forums.. no dice. ScratchX helped the most BTW... UPDATE: I contacted the dealer.. they are going to look into seeing about having the etched poos removed and a better sealer put on the bumpers to try to address it. will keep posted.
  12. So.. I have been indecisive lately about what to listen to off my iPod Nano and have been deciding to just do the "Play All" option (spoken "Play All" or pressed as a playlist option under under "Play Lists"). Well, I started to notice that it worked perfect.. until you shut off the car and restarted. It will pick up where it left off fine BUT it will no longer "Play All" - as in all your songs - it just stays with the artist you were playing and will keep doing so endlessly. I tested this many times and the same thing happens every single time. An example.. I say "Play All" and I get some Jimi and maybe some Bob and then maybe a little Matisyahu and then some Ice Cube.... then I shut off the car and come back and resume and now, I stay in Ice Cube and never ever leave unless I do another new "Play All". Anyone else get this bug/issue?
  13. I hate to be the master of the obvious, but there are numerous cryptic programming steps for numerous functions outlined in the manual... but some you can do right from the Info Center as well (auto lights, auto loclk/unlock, etc)
  14. I wonder if the wound spring or tension device that pulls/rolls up the material is a little slack on yours and allowing the fabric to ruffle and vibrate?
  15. I have done a lot of little cool mods to my Edge. Some of them first off's seen here, some 1 of a kind (you can search around to see stuff like HID, LED bulbs, stubby antenna, inside light toggle, etc.). I think one of my most compelling is the 1-of-a-kind LED puddle lamps seen here. as far as I know, they are the first and never been done since. So, I think that is a pretty cool mod.
  16. wow akirby.... you've one upped yourself this time. the levels your willing to go to make your already made point here are surprising. :beatdeadhorse: at this stage, I think it obvious you have transcended over into more than just trying to point out how or why it could be dangerous... and somehow you have yourself convinced peoples desire to want to be able to do this is so utterly unfathomable despite the fact there are dozens of things equally demanding one does in a car daily that 'could', 'maybe', 'might' affect other drives or despite the fact a stand alone unit and other manufacturers stock nav units can already do it... and those people are driving right next to you right now, last night, yesterday and will be tomorrow. but to say "I just hope when you do wreck".... wow :eek5: you have become the champion for the anti-make-your-nav-unit-stand-alone crusade. maybe we can agree that from here on out, we just leave the thread to those that want to work it out and make it happen with no more caveats and disclaimers and warnings and.... its all been said already so we do not need it again.... what we need is the correct answer on how to make it work on the Edge
  17. check this topic it might be useful... but yes, unless you modify like I did, get use to the fuse box
  18. hmmm... this does not ring a bell for me. I know, in the past on my old VW, there was an odd equilibrium you had to meet with window(s) open or the inside of the car would pop your ear drums. Well, I was damn happy that did not exist in my Edge. I have no noticed this as an issue. I do not drive much with the drivers window down and sunshade closed (must be the configuration you are in I assume), but I have noticed nothing I would call odd.
  19. click here There, I fixed your link for you
  20. wow... where do you live where there are still an "attendant filled it too full".. I have not seen a Full Service gas station in years anyway.. in past cars I have worked on.. there are 3 key parts to fuel gauge working. (1) the float sending unit in the tank. they can be bad. (2) the float being grounded. if it is not grounded, you will get whacky or no readings. (3) the in dash gauge. RARELY have I seen it be the gauge. More times than not, we tracked it down to a bad ground for the float and sometimes to a bad float in the tank. Either way, what you mention is not right and even if over filled, that would not trigger a first reaction until 117 miles. welcome!
  21. I just do not understand why it is such an issue for you? Why you even care and constantly jab at people that want the feature? I HAVE needed to do this very thing on 2 occasions I could think of when plans changed at the last minute from where we were suppose to go (here they are so you can understand how it might happen: once to a restaurant we planned to meet friends at only to find out in mid drive they were closed, so we all decided to meet at one they knew of in the same general area before we went to the Padres game and another time when we were meeting some friends on a short road trip and the Park and Ride we planned to meet at was closed for construction so we picked a new destination to meet at in an area I did not know). I then called Goggle 411 (a killer free service), got the new addresses, and then had to negotiate a sketchy freeway pull over while my chick input it and we resumed. In both instances, meeting time mattered as we had a tight schedule to keep. So whether you see a need or not or have had it happens... whatever... others do.. it should really just be left at that. Good Lord, people are adults and can make decisions. The mere fact that other nav systems and stand alone nav systems allow you do it on the fly all make this such a moot point as it can be done safely, it is tiring to debate the safety of it or not. Everyone knows that at this stage. But so is drinking & eating, adjusting radio & putting in a CD, talking on cell phone, laughing with friend in the car, watching for turn offs and signs for your destination, putting on makeup for heavens sake... blah blah blah
  22. thanks for the info on this and to see someone has done it on some car. My one question, as per option #1, the one I would personally do as I have already rewired other functions in my car with rocker switches (my inside lights you can read elsewhere) is what other system is affected by this ground? That is, I wonder if the backup sensors or computer diagnostic system some or other function or feature would be adversely affected if the ground were left open? Am I correctly assuming part of the point of the toggle is not just to be able to select it to be open or closed ground, but that it would be flipped while driving (versus right from start) to disengage the ground and free up the nav? As I wonder what would happen if you left the circuit open, toggle on, for other features or sensors or computer diagnostics?
  23. yep.. that is the link I would have provided BTW.. just a note on this I have thought off.. if this is very important for you to have, as it was me, until I saw the one that was made I had fully planned to buy one from another car maker. In looking around at this as I walk or road by cars, I see that the curve and design on these all are very similar. Point is, you might be able to put a little effort in find one by Acura, Subaru, Audi, blah blah that fits perfect and has no maker imprint on it. Like I said, I have, while riding by, looked at hundreds of these on cars and think it would be possible to find one by someone else that has a good fitting curve and design.
