Add Sirius Radio Module
Lex Talionis replied to thedilleyo's topic in Audio, Backup, Navigation & SYNC
do these guys have an option? http://www.tss-radio.com/for-the-car-dash-...23_242_406.html -
no, what I am saying - among other things - is that you can work all day long and watch mr. zen's video and try and polish that turd, or you can accept it is a flawed piece of equipment that is holding on to 50 years of poor design and jump on board with what a truly useful side view mirror should be.

The answer is not just "as simple as moving the side mirrors" - you are painting with a pretty broad brush to claim as if that one step is "the answer" to blind spots and everyone is just clueless. Simply not true. I guess Ford did not agree either, as they created this device. Plus, I do not think anyone here ever said "I can't drive safely without them". But you could drive safer if you have them as I think many see it. And like I said earlier, it is easy to say what you say having the benefit of electric mirrors you can "adjust in less than a couple of minutes". Every had an old car that had fixed side mirrors out on the fender? I did. You wouldn't want that nowadays BUT could live with it. You gained by usage of electric adjustable mirrors, but seem to cherry pick and forget about that gain that makes it so easy to move those mirrors of yours. to bad for you.. stuff can be pretty fun to do. evolving an inferior product.. human nature. Plus, anymore, I just think it in your nature to be a contrarian just for the sake of being a contrarian at times

Painting my dash....over the GLARE!!!
Lex Talionis replied to wthrower's topic in Interior, A.C., Heat, Interior Trim
Polarized sunglasses? oh hell, just be glare free if you roll with a pair of these and armor-all not needed either -
So.. following an interesting thread over on SMR website (not all threads are worthy to chat about here) but I found it interesting that someone stumbled across that when you say "USB2" Sync will recognize it but tell you it is not available. You will not see it in your Options with BT, In Line or USB.. but it is recognized by vice command for sure. Sure enough I tried it and it recognized it as a voice command.. but not USB3 or USB4 just USB and USB2. Not only that, it seems that - at least on the Focus - there seems to be another port input on the Sync box that can take a USB cable (its actually behind the passenger plate thing that says focus on it). I would be curious to see if I can find it on the Edge and see if we can tap into that USB2... just cause it's there

how funny.. having reviewed your images, and exactly what happened, I got to thinking and I came today with some similar conclusions and was coming here to write them. I think what got your brother in trouble is that he used his screw driver as a pry bar, and that broke bit right off with the forward pulling pressure he applied. but the real key is to use it in a twisting fashion. like you said, you slide long thin flat head driver it into the "tabs" as you saw and twist the handle and move on to the next one, do not pry forward. that twisting rotating movement should seperate them and not put that forward pry pressure your brother did. and it seems you came to the same conclusion and beat me to the punch. as for motor versus mirror.. logic would tell me it is the same motor. I would be hard pressed to believe they took the time and cost to revamp a motor design just for the mirror. seems like the mirror is the only thing they would would put R&D into to development and try to do so using the existing proven motors they have. at least... that is logical.

yeah, the t-connectors have been talked about before here in other hitch threads. just note, you still have to run a power wire up to the battery to power the brains of the unit.. and it is not a 10 minute install (contrary to claims on that site), not even close.

not bad... still looks kind of thin like the Ford ones are? To bad the ALS savers are not available anymore, those were a bit longer (so more coverage) and definitely thicker and more stout (click my gallery to see mine). "Let me ask.. why do people black out the license plate on pictures? I mean, don't hundreds of people see your plate on the road when you drive? I've always been curious to that.." anonymity - something that is hard to get anymore. those "hundreds of people" do not know you, but the moment they can tie you to a post on the web, they know more. also, if you posted a plate, people could track that back to you and know more about you like "hey, there is that chick I always see posting on the Ford board" - and who wants that? you are an online reseller, so less of a reason to think twice about it, but heck, for that matter, why do 99% of all of us use bogus pseudo names and such? anonymity, simply anonymity.

huh, looks like that disk would snap clip right off now epoxy that ringed edge of the disk to the ringed edge of the motor, and maybe - hard to tell by photos - there is a center piece of plastic that also snapped & would need epoxy? but anyway, keep us in the loop. now that you have it off.. and will have to put something back on, you putting the old one and sending the new ones back or what?

My Speaker Upgrade Install
Lex Talionis replied to Lex Talionis's topic in Audio, Backup, Navigation & SYNC
not someone like Crutchfiled.. they do as much fitment research and product testing and reviews as any audio provided out there. not only that, they have a great return policy, so nothing in it for them if they just sell you something just to try to sell it to you knowing you can/will just return it. I trust them and find them, if anything, to be more conservative than they need be. -
My Speaker Upgrade Install

no sir... the rotating tweeter changes the db output level - +0 dB (flat) up to -3 dB - has nada to do with ohm rating adjustment. -
that sucks.. thanks for being the beta tester. sorry it happened. the photos help. before you go and replace a motor and a bunch of unneeded additional cost, why not fully separate the mirror from the broken disk base (as you were trying to do), use a 2 part epoxy mix and bond that disk base back onto the motor as original, then 'snap' the mirror (old or new) back on as it should be? 2 part epoxy is stout stuff, the mirrors are not used much nor carry much weight, you might be surprised that you can epoxy that disk right back to the motor, let sit for 24 hours as it cures and be good to go as it 'looks' like you have some good flat full circle (so even load) surface area to work with (sand it lightly first). JB Weld is awesome epoxy and I bet it will hold.

Factory Sirius Antenna w/ Aftermarket H/U?
Lex Talionis replied to tripc3's topic in Audio, Backup, Navigation & SYNC
connections are pretty universal. RCA is RCA, terrestrial radio is terrestrial radio. my point is, I would bet, if a 'new' H/U claims Sirius compatibility, the antenna from your 'newer' model Edge will fit. There are not like 50 different style Sirius antenna connections.... it should work fine. here is a great resource -
this should be a plug and play breeze to do... BTW, I got to thinking.. not that I would, but I would think that the MKX auto dimming side mirror glass would also work in an Edge. On Edge's with auto dimming rear view mirror, the same sensor turns on the lights and dims the mirror and dims the navi... so I would think it would also dim a side view mirror if connected. the question is if the wiring/pins is/are in place. just like with the BAMR light panel being ready to be lit once the correct pins were found & wired up, I would be curious to see the wiring that leads to an Edge side view mirror and the wiring to a dimable MKX side mirror... I bet it can be done.

Here are some that are kind of nice (and cheap) and likely what I would do seeming we do not need 5000lb ratings and 4 bolts.. 4$ per tie down. matching black base to my interior color, plastic body & metal d-ring should be limited to no rattle. with a single hole to mount, only 1 hole to drill and easier backing if you really felt it needed (I do not.. just use a fender washer and nut/bolt combo). not as flush as a "recessed" version, but still pretty low profile. you could even drill 2 into the backs of the rear seats so you could have 6 points (1 on each seat, 2 on each wall) and these should still allow you to lift up the floor cargo access.

not sure what you mean by "removed"? What, you want it off of the Navi system display? IF that is what you mean, Ii think if you disconnect the Sirius antenna from the back of the Navi system, or disconnect it back in the rear of the car, it might remove it from the Navi display options. also not sure what you mean by "not wanting to add XM"? you do not have to 'add' XM, it has been added. All Sirius did was roll in channels, drop channels that were similar, renumber/rename channels, and make an additional upgrade package of just specific premium XM channels you could - but do not have to - pay extra for.. like the laughable Opera channel. The Sirus/XM merger is complete and you do not 'have' to do anything and your cost will not change, they just tweaked the channel lineup.

the defrost function is part of the glass mirror face itself... so that makes sense you need that model to keep that function but the puddle lamp, having pulled them apart and made my own custom LED bulbs months ago, has nothing to do with the glass mirror and is part of the side view mirrors body, not the glass mirror itself we are looking to replace. you could rip off the glass mirror and still have the puddle lamp.. so again, not sure how replacing the glass mirror face plays any role in this relative to puddle lamps. I believe it does not in anyway and is only being caught up in the fact that a Limited that has puddle lamps has defrost mirror.. but that is the extent of the relationship. they do not work together in any way.
