MOON ROOF CONTROL LIGHTING
Lex Talionis replied to sanche's topic in Audio, Backup, Navigation & SYNC
well, mine is a 2008.. so not sure what you mean "only for the 2007" hmm.. looked like blue wire w/red striped, not orange to me on a 2008 - which is what I have - tying into that blue wire w/red striped (or blue with orange stripe as you say) gets you power to the LEDs all the time no matter day/night -
My Speaker Upgrade Install

yes, if they make a specific harness for the Ford Edge, it will certainly have the head unit side pigtail plug and likely even the speaker side already done for your speakers. but, since after-market speaker side plugs could vary speaker to speaker - while the head unit plugs in the Edge are all the same - I am not sure if their harness already comes specific to the Edge and the chosen speakers you buy at the same time or just the Edge side and then a plug you must attach to wires on the speaker side you buy and then plug in. either way.. it is simple whether they come plug and play or you decide to connect wire to wire like I did since I never planned to take them out again so a plug/harness was not a concern for me. helpful if wiring is scary to you, but not really needed in a simple speaker hook-up. -

nice write up & cluster.... but it seems like we all ended up in the same spot in the end. the only real 'trouble' was determining which pins operated the LEDs. once that was figured out, wiring was just a matter of choice as there are about 3-4 ways to do it. in the end, I think mine is easiest as the only wires to run are right there at the unit self contained, not all the way across the headliner and down a pillar and such... -

well.. technically, I would say you do not "need" a crossover, so you do not need an external crossover. as for plug and play.. it if comes from Crutchfield and you but the harness, it will be as plug and play is it can be - they make it about as easy as possible. wiring from the head unit will have a pigtail plug, speakers likely do not - would just be exposed wire - so you will have to wire up the pigtail plug on the speaker end I would assume. in my case, it was as simple as stripping 4 wires per door and connecting them up as I chose to cut off the factory pigtail harness so I could include them with the factory speakers when I sold them. so I just installed wire to wire with no harness and thus no pigtail plugs. -

one thing I really like about the Infinities was the ability to twist the tweeter which (1) allows you to change the the db output level but also (2) aim or focus them up at me as they mount so low in the Edge, it seemed like a practical use for an adjustable tweeter. -
yeah, makes ya wonder how I have time to work, compete in elite triathlon/duathlon, travel the world, and still find time to tweak my Edge - seems like when I get into things.. I get into them full bore

Thule or Yakima Cargo Boxes
Lex Talionis replied to wthrower's topic in Interior, A.C., Heat, Interior Trim
I would pass on a box on 'factory ' rails. You may only put a few items in there, but the weight adds up fast not to mention the wind pressure. I would get legit rack before I put on a box for sure. I would put skis/snowboards on just the racks, but not a box. That being said, big fan of Yakima stuff. Used it, own it, had it on many cars for +15 years. I have even had Space Booster, plenty of room for skis - so no problem with snowboards. -
huh? many of us here have already installed HIDs in our cars no problem.. and the whole kit (electronic ballasts and bulbs and all) are in the $200-400 range.. and some come with great ballast/bulb priduct warranties - like Lifetime!

okay.... here you go.. but you know what they say, you can't polish a turd as for the crossover.. that looks a little bulky (depth) compared to mine. and though I am not 100% sure as I do not know the depth of your crossover, it looks like there may be a big enough recessed spot below the speaker or white window motor (where I did mine). see my gallery for photos on the actual inner door, speaker and crossover mount and you might be able to gauge needed space better. but, I think it can be done. -

don't think I can help you... not sure what you mean when you say "Did any of you by any chance have any close picture of that driver".. close picture of what driver? Yes, it is as you describe as far as a combo unit. I ended up selling mine at a garage sale believe it or not -
isn't folder mode just for like CDs and not actual drives?

2009 Factory Sony Nav system
Lex Talionis replied to Lex Talionis's topic in Audio, Backup, Navigation & SYNC
that is true about an 'official' Ford camera.. BUT read this about my camera install -
you might consider a set of fold away tie downs like we have been talking about here. if so, you would just put ABS plastic hooks from a camping store like REI (or even baby carabiners) on the cargo cover side on those loops, and connect those to a more stout and flush mounted fold away tie down.

This is on my list to do (when I finally decide to pull something needing lights as right now it is solely for my bike rack) I would attempt tap into a rear power point for sure. It seems more than just passing effort - sure, not a lot but also not really needed - to run a wire (remove panels, 10' of wire run through fire wall, tap 2 battery, cover with split loom, replace panels) than to keep the entire kit condensed in the rear and run 1' of wire to a constant power point in the rear - like the auto lift trunk door motor power supply - and be done with it all right there. anyway... how about a photo(s) of where you dropped it through the floorboards and out the bottom to your hitch? not seen that yet.

What made you choose your Edge?
Lex Talionis replied to Edgy Girl's topic in Competing Crossovers & Vehicles
For me, it had all the neat little gadget/comfort features - which I think really make a car in the end after you get past looks - I had wanted in my next car (but one) and it did it in what I consider to be a sleek, beautiful and smart looking design and body style. I wanted things like (in no certain order): 1 - puddle lamps 2 - big moon roof 3 - built in navi 4 - built in Sirius 5 - fold flat rear storage (so I could sleep) 6 - parking assist 7 - trip stats computer 8 - auto climate controls 9 - Sync 10 - decent sound system as I said, the only thing it did not have that I wanted, as I am into gadgets, was a rear-view camera... but as we now know, I do have that also thanks to the one I installed -

I think it is clear, you have a much higher level of interest, knowledge and need than most of us when it comes to sound systems - which is cool, we all have our own "things" we get into. "those were not that better as to make go for all the hassle of replacing the speakers myself" - but, I believe the 'average' guy wanting a nice upgrade would disagree.. as I said, and others seem to have as well, I can hear a world of difference between sucky dead and muted stock and these Infinities and found it well worth the minimal time, effort, cost to replace them. not sure what you need to hear to convince you to take that time, effort, cost, but the Infinities proved it to me. Sure, there are better, nicer and yada yada yada, but it was pretty undeniable, to my average ears, the difference. But, as much as I know about and like audio equipment - which is more than anyone I know personally - you are obviously at the next level and not really the average guy looking for some improvement. you are more of a true enthusiast and might dismiss the improvements that a regular guy would jump to have. -
I loved the retractable cover in my VW. it was awesome and very sturdy. having now seen it, it is not that bad 'looking'. I would, on second thought, try to salvage it. I can't imagine a Walmart creation being any better than this... and this one color matches and is cut to fit. I can see what you mean by cheap, but at least they got the fabric cut to fit, not I might try to improve the engineering of it before tossing it out. for example, cheap tent poles sewn into it could add that support you need, keep it light and still roll-able, and sit on the edge of the window sill that lame strap does in picture #5.

take some photos of this thing and post them as they are elusive and never seen here as far as I can recall. then, remove hooks and get plugs at and auto store and fill in the holes.

I never had to do that, BUT this update did fix the 3 main Sync issues I was having with music player connection.. I never had BT issues though. but hey, if it worked it worked

Add Sirius Radio Module
Lex Talionis replied to thedilleyo's topic in Audio, Backup, Navigation & SYNC
not sure if it is what you need as it was to much for me to read & I was just scanning and searching to see if something popped out, but worth checking on maybe? -
well obviously you then have the factoy rails if all you ask for is Lowriders? if so, using them would be easy enough - 4 of those and 2 crossbars and your kayak holders. I used those on my VW for many, many years with factory rails to carry 4 bikes with never an issue. Yakima stuff s the best. I have not seen many people here reporting having the factory rails nor putting lowriders on them, but search for "Yakima", you will find existing threads - one of which has detailed photos and parts used to pull off an install with no factory rails since he has a BAMR.

Add Sirius Radio Module
Lex Talionis replied to thedilleyo's topic in Audio, Backup, Navigation & SYNC
a search on Google turned up a used kit on eBay for like $250... either way, 299 is cheaper than 400 -
yeah, yeah, I hear you BUT they do know more know than I do not this topic and I am just passing on what they said. I deem them credible, as do millions of others in a well know shyster industry packed full of sketchy electronics sales companies, so will continue to shop with them and use their website for research until proven otherwise. I hate to tell ya, but their JD Power awards and 35 years in business trump your 35 posts

Though I do not listen to FM as a rule of thumb - period - I know the stations to be plentiful, but to say FM is "quality" is an oxymoron. terresterial radio just does not compare. period. I listened to it for +30 years of my life, then got Sirius, and will never go back. The endless droaning commericlas every 10 minutes, the cookier cutter format radio that is so contrived and controlled, the retarded lame DJ spiel... no way. simply can't take it. as of the last 2 months, and now official on like Nov 11 when they combined channels, XM and Sirius are now one... a lot has changed since this topic started. can't debate the "sound" quality with you as I agree not much difference to my ear, but never has that been a big concern for me. it is content.. and content on terrestrial just plain sucks!!! silence is better.
