  1. pin stripe was not a factory option I have ever seen/heard of "epending on the angle of the sun on it it would almost disappear" - this is typically called "ghosted" effect
  2. if I can get my hands on an affordable 8p, I will hook you up with my 7p for a great deal
  3. thanks.. yes, that center console is a cavern no doubt. this is one of the more useful mods. I do not use the glove box much at all either. Since I am the driver, I keep what I need close & in the center console.. BUT I was on a roll and the LEDs come in a pair - so why not. either way, it is useful. once you've done it, you will be shocked at the difference and just how dark that center console is.
  4. well done.. I like. At the time I did not know the power/ground connections were available right under the shifter and I did know I could tap into them clean and easy at the rear of the console - that is why I went that route. Either way, both produce results. Given the size of the light you put in, it puts out significant more light. are you going to do the glove box... seems a natural next step
  5. I would also be curious how that would have changed as a process. I can see that the old 3k oil change time frame given newer electronically controlled engines has been thrown out, but not sure how tire rotation needs have changed unless the rubber and such is so advanced now? I would still think a rotation is needed in time. But if not, curious as to why or how this is possible? as for the weights.. I do not know if it could or could not be enough to pull you to one side. In the rotation process, it is certainly possible the weights got knocked off - so I was thinking maybe weights only on one side could pull. So, it was just a thought. A rotation does not normally mean a rebalance as well. I was just curious what/if they did that.. just cause... and I agree with akirby - a simple rotation should do nothing for alignment in general. so that is why I thought the weights could have played a role. but hey, who knows what they did during the process... they do want return business you know
  6. do you have any weights on your rims - check and see which do and don't? if they rotated, did they balance?
  7. great tip.. but to scared to try it  I could see several ways this could go bad for a novice holding a razor
  8. no way for 3 layers. as I said, the nicks I am dealing with are tiny - so not a chance 3 layers will go "in" or "on" it without it creating a lump or covering 3x the area than damaged. 1 layer creates a lump since it will not go do "into" the nick for the reasons I said above. if they were bigger, and I could apply layers to build up to a flat layer, I would try it. for what I have tried, not a chance.
  9. if you can access up from under the seat, a lube of some type - I am a fan of less smelly and oily silicon spray - can work wonders on metal on metal or tight bolts that bind. oh, and on springs as well.
  10. I think pxb006's point is that the OP already started a thread on this topic, then started a new one on the same topic with nothing new to add other than to call some users out - could have just left it in the same thread is the point.
  11. in San Diego... every day is sunny also.. we are talking about 2 different sized chips. The ones I have dealt with are small, very small. More like a toothpick diameter or smaller. So, fluid spreading out - given surface tension & small surface area - is not as simple as in a chip the size of an eraser - 10x bigger area. So, given the smallest amount you can get out with the tip of a needle or toothpick, this amount is never "lower" than the rest of the paint and still sticks up above. As for using brush... it is a matter of getting enough paint, but not to much paint. it is kind of a tricky deal IF you care to try to get it just right.
  12. funny how this works.. I actually think some of my repairs look worse than the chip/nick. that is, it is impossible to get flush, so it sticks up and since the color match from a can is just not that great, this leads to something more noticeable than some of the tiny nicks I have tried to repair. good luck though.
  13. why wait for night to test? just cover the light sensor on your dash
  14. to confirm, those that think the chrome clad are better need to do some research here... Ford has had a lot of problems with the chrome clad rims peeling and bubbling and creeking, do the research here. as for the OP.. use the search here as you will find some topics and links to running boards as it has been talked about here also.
  15. yeah, a self done switch would be a hack for this project. TN has the right idea, retain stock look. as for the facia, I guess I did not realize the lower facia had some sort of black cover over the fog port opening - never paid attention and just thought it was 2 different facias. that saves some serious coin.
  16. I did using the actual Ford product they sell.. and it was a not an acceptable result. it is just 2 hard, I think, to mimic that special paint process in a 1 in all touch-up paint. It is obvious it has been touched up. I was hoping for better, but not as good as I had hoped. FWIW, I even tried using toothpicks and needles/pins to get just a bit of paint to settle into the little scratches or nicks... again, looks obvious.
  17. Do the Edge's that come with no fog lights also come with the lower facia foglight port free? If so, then also need to change the lower facia to get the correct facia with fog light ports and 2 chome fog light inserts - about $300 total full retail.
  18. hate to say it, but search these forums and see that there are pretty well known paint issues - I have had my share as well leading to a new hood and repaint on both front fenders.
  19. well, just got around to calling the dealer today. I have made friends with the main manager for fleet sales over time and he can get me the 2 parts I need at a great discount, and in the end, it will be much cheaper than my deductible - so going to just do the fix myself. plus, that saves me not only $, but the hassle of being out of the car for 5 days - I can do the fix in 1 afternoon I am sure - and risk it will come back with a new issue.
  20. CA - San Diego, 2 plate for sure. oh yeah... if you think about it, I break about 3 laws with this Edge no doubt, in time, I will get busted for 1 of them.
  21. really.. "late October/early November into December" is not that long in my opinion. 30-40 days it seems at the max. Ah, I sometimes go that long in between driving my FJ40 and do nothing about it. I would start getting concerned at 3+ months, maybe. but just generally speaking, I think people have hit the advice well. as for tires, I have friends that put the car up on blocks rather than let sit or worry about moving the car. Harbor Freight has pretty cheap blocks. You can see them - I have my car up on all 4 - in my red caliper paint thread. also, not only could you just undo the battery if you did not want to get a charger, I think one time I saw a device you can put into your lighter and attach a home battery - not car battery - and it leaves just enough current to keep memory settings.
  22. not that it matters as it seems you want to put one on, but I also never put mine on and I am in a 2 plate state as well. I really started to look around at the time I bought my car and saw about 50% of the cars on the road do not have a front plate, so I said it - I even told the dealer NOT to mount it or they would have to put on a new front bumper
  23. Unfortunately, the coyote did not survive I was driving to a race up north early Sat morning. Driving on the off ramp to the race exit – 6:15 am still dark @ about 45mph – and he darts out from the left side. I saw him right at the last second, but subconsciously it felt. I even later recall as I reflected that he was trying to make a last split second path change in my headlights... But no such luck. I think we just ran him right over. He was full size. Destroyed the front lower skirt of my car and fog light housing on the drivers side – which I do not even care about to be totally honest. I pulled over and stopped stunned - my fiancé and dog were clearly freaked. Got my composure and went to look and see and hoped he had scrambled off just grazed or something. But, again, no such luck. He was dead off to the side – lying like he was sleeping. I was shocked and feel real inside about it. Nothing I could do it happened so fast. I am not mister animal humanitarian, but love dogs and the canine family, and we have coyote issues where I live, but unless they try to harm me or my dog, I have no issue with them. But, to hit and kill one who was just out doing his thing, it is not a good feeling. A sickening feeling actually. I have never hit and animal before. I ended up winning the race, but it plagued me the entire time inside. I just kept recalling seeing him at the very last nano second in my headlights and how it looked like he was trying to change direction. The entire race I kept thinking that I wanted to have the speed for that race he did not have - that gave me motivation, but it was bitter sweat victory. Anyway, normally I am pretty finicky about my car. But frankly, I do not even care right now as an animal died uselessly. The damage I can and will repair, likely myself seeing that it is just the skirt and not any paint or body so it might be more cost efficient to just buy the part than go the insurance route, but the coyote will still be dead on the side of the road. Darn coyote, why did he have to cross the freeway like that
