  1. Is973800: I love it -- still spinning at 33 1/3 RPMs in an MP3 world. Reminds me of Joe Walsh's song "Analog Man in a Digital World." BTW, I'm 62 years old so I can totally relate! And like you, I'm fine with MFT. tourproto: I bought 4 Hondas in a row and defected to Ford when I bought my 2013 Edge Limited AWD with MFT. To me, Honda was getting very pricy and the dealers won't deal with you. My Honda sales guy on the last 3 visits had his hand so deep in my wallet that it was the worst car buying experience I've had in the past couple of decades. But in earlier years, this same salesman always seemed to give me a fair deal. The Honda guys now have the "3 TO's" (3 Turnovers) and "4-Square" selling methods so drilled into their heads that they've lost sight of what the buying experience is all about. The guy had the audacity to tell me that Honda was immune from the recession so they can keep their prices up. Really? Not sure about the other import dealers, but I did get the same treatment at Toyota when I looked at the Highlander (so frustrating that I never even took the test drive). Honda quality ratings have taken a hit or two over recent years too. I haven't bought a new Ford since I bought my shiny new '71 Maverick, but after visiting 4 dealers this time out, Ford treated me the best, gave me the best deal, and sold me the best looking, best handling, smoothest, and quietest car of the bunch, and I figured it was time to buy American again. Well, errr, Canadian, but that's ok. Keep in mind I'm an old guy (analog man in a digital world). I'm very pleased with my decision not only on the Edge, but also on the MFT. As far as MFT, so far so good. Yes, there is a learning curve for the first week or two, but even at my advanced age this old dog can learn a couple of new tricks. I had one little glitch with the keyless entry but I'm pretty sure it was something I did, and the car did reset itself. I have no connection issues whatsoever synching with my iphone or my wife's, and there have been no dropped signals. I stream music via Bluetooth on my iphone with no problems. The nav system is the best I've ever had, very clear turn by turn directions and so far no dropped signals in areas where my other systems always lost the satellites. I had no issue at all downloading and installing the new software version. The voice commands on all devices (phone, climate, nav, audio) work well, much better even than Siri on my iphone, which is pretty decent. No issues on the mechanical systems. Body and interior are really tight and well-fit, and no squeaks or rattles. I did opt for the ESP plan, but as others pointed out I would have definitely done that with any car, import or domestic. The electronics are just too complex on any car these days. I got the 75k/7 year Ford ESP plan and a great price (that plan suited my tendency to hang onto cars a long time and rach up only about 10k miles per year). BTW, the price my dealer quoted for ESP was a lot less than the price I was quoted by Ford via phone. If I was due to bring the car in for its first service visit, I wouldn't have a single thing on the list for the guys to fix, check, or explain. My Hondas all had small lists of things that had gone buggy, so this is a first for me. My advice? Buy the Edge. Get MFT. Enjoy!

    MPG Question

Seems a bit low. I have 2013 Edge Limited AWD with the 3.5 liter engine with almost 1000 miles on it now. I was really disappointed the first week or so, as the onboard fuel economy was reading 14.3 miles average. I haven't reset the fuel economy computer, so I can get a better sense of how things are improving over th longer run. It steadily shot up and for the past 2 weeks and now it's hanging in at 19.5 MPG (U.S.). I'm happy with that for an AWD vehicle around town. I doubt the computer is highly accurate and I haven't calculated MPG the old fashioned way yet. Most of my driving is around town -- I'd guess 800 miles stop & go and 200 miles highway on the 1000 I've done so far. I quickly found out that in the early going I was killing my gas mileage by idling in the driveway while I checked out all the cool new toys on the Edge. Also, try driving with an eye on the real-time economy feature on. It's like the old days of driving with a vacuum gauge -- just backing off the gas as the terrain allows will save a lot without sacrificing speed and without ticking off other drivers (hate slowpokes!). Also as many others here have pointed out, keeping it under 65 MPH helps a lot too, but that's kinda hard because the ride is so smooth and quiet that I don't realize how fast I'm goiing! Good luck!
  3. cv27: That explanation in your manual is really strange. Even if the slot was vertical, I wouldn't know how the process what "facing out" means. Facing out to the left, out of the car to the right, or out through the top of the open console? I haven't had such vague instructions since my Honda days.... I can see how you were confused!
  4. Ohhhh, you're so close cv27. You actually found it, and it is in fact horizontal. The slot is about 2" directly below the 12v plug, dead center in the front wall of the consule, just below the ridge where the removable console tray should sit. The slot is very unofficial looking -- it's more of a recess than anything else, maybe 1-1/2" wide with a simple plastic runner on each side. There are no electronic connections and the fob just loosely fits inside, not a "positive" or locking connection. The fob inserts pointy end first with the key ring sticking into the console box where you can see it. My manual doesn't specify whether the buttons face up or down, but in the programming section it states that the buttons face down for that function, and the picture for programming shows the same key orientation as the picture for emergency starting, so I assume for emergency starting the buttons also face down and the Ford logo faces up. This how it works on a 2013 Edge Limited, and from the way you describe the horizontal slot it sounds like this is how yours is configured too. To get a better sense of how the key is inserted, look at the picture on Page 175 of the PDF manual for a 2013 Edge, and also on Page 82 where it says the buttons face down for the programming function. It's the same orientation in the two images. You can download the manual on the Ford website.
  5. I've had my 2013 Edge Limited AWD for just 2 weeks and yesterday I had this same problem at just 517 miles. I have no clue what triggered it, but I'm thinking it might have been something to do with closing liftgate with the key fob? That was the only thing I did that was out of the ordinary. As soon as I got back in the car I pressed my foot on the brake and pushed the start button, but I got the "No Key Detected" error message, which at 517 miles really freaked me out. I tried to start it normally a few times, with no success. Took the fob out of my pocket and placed it on the console, no luck. Touched the key to the start button and also the headliner area (heard that there's an antenna there), but no luck. Tried the second fob, no luck. Waited an hour, no luck. Of course, not only wouldn't the car start, but the "touch" function on the door handles didn't work either. The numeric key pad worked ok, so at least I wouldn't get locked out of the car. I started the car with the fob in the emergency slot, thinking that would reset it, but when I shut the car off and tried to restart, the key still wasn't being detected. BTW, when I had these problems, the brake pedal seemed harder to depress than usual. Honest. I waited another hour and tried again, but still no luck unless I used the emergency slot. The whole accessory/run/on/off cycle seemed really messed up, I couldn't get the accessories to turn off the way they normally do, as if something was really out of cycle. When I opened the door I expected the radio to turn off and the seat to slide back, but instead the radio stayed on and the seat stayed forward, even though the engine was off. By this time I was getting really confused about what the right sequence really was, or where I was in the sequence because I had tried so many different things. I had the strange feeling that the problem originally occurred when I shut the rear liftgate using the liftgate button on the fob. So just for giggles, I figured I'd open the liftgate from the fob and close it with the button on the interior trim panel, the way I normally do. The car started right up after that and I haven't had the "No Key Detected" problem since then, and the accesory/on/off cycling seems normal again. I'm sure it was just a coincidence with the liftgate, but I figured I'd mention it for what it's worth. Glad it finally worked, because my next move was going to make a cone-shaped hat out of aluminum foil, wave the fob in 13 counter-clockwise circles with my left hand, and push the start button with my left big toe while grabbing the antenna with my right hand through the pano roof. I was running out of other ideas and this was the only other sensible thing I could think of.....
  6. Hi all. I've had my 2013 Edge Limited AWD for 2 weeks now and I'm really enjoying this vehicle. I saw this thread and thought I'd chime in, not sure if it will be of any help. My Edge came with the console tray, but it was clear that the prep guy didn't know what it was, since it was smushed all the way down to the bottom of the console, upside down. Underneath the tray was the L-shaped rubber liner for the console pass-through, took me a while to figure that one out. Anyway, I pulled the tray out just now so I can provide the part number, which seems different from the numbers above. Mine is DT43-78044C82-AAW. Not sure if this means anything, but the part number is followed by the characters >PP-RG<>TE0< . I also received the coin holder, which was also just kind of shoved loose into the console. My Edge has a build date of August 28, 2012. Hope this helps.
