These are serious issues. I was going to order my new AWD Ltd in February.. No thanks now unless there is news that these issues have been permanently addressed. My 08 IP even with its old Crown Vic lighting turns out is not so bad after all compared to these problems. My mesage to Ford is to fix it now and fast.

This is bad really news. I hoped to order my AWD LTD in February. Not a chance now until I hear that this issues has been permanently fixed. My 08 lease is up soon and although I am not fond of the lighting IP. The "old fashioned" analog gauges never failed, neither has anything else for that fact. I dont need problems ( who does right). Count me out, what a shame.

I really like this feature. It malfunctioned on me also, the dealer said that the power connector was loose and reconnected it. Problem solved. They didn't even wright it up

Also, can't get a sliding armrest on an Edge. BLIS is available as freestanding option on the Edge. Must be ordered as an expensive option package for the MXK. More wheel options also available on the Lincoln as well.

My 08 Ltd AWD has the 18" Michelin Latitude HP. Nice tires, great in all situations. We got hit pretty hard with the snow here in NE Ohio, I live at the top of steep hil - no problems at all. The car was unstoppable.

Mine is 08 Limited build 2/08 and has "the seat rock". The dealer recognized the problem, sent it to an upholstry shop to have the seat removed and track checked. Said nothing was wrong and it was normal. My 91 & 99 Explorers did this as well. I wanted it checked and documented before the warranty expired. A little disappointing for something so simple as this.

Edge Body Side Protective Moldings
goatee replied to ACLazer's topic in Interior, A.C., Heat, Interior Trim
I have had a set of Sportwing color keyed on since the Edge was new in 08. Dark ink blue - perfect match. My left side back door molding did its job and took a direct hit in a parking lot. Only thing is they are not colored all the way through. But I am greatful that they worked to save me from getting a ding repaired. I think I can just touch it up and it will look fine. Great investment and I would buy them again. -
I agree those things are very important and puts the new Edge but its what I mentioned that puts you just a step ahead. The smaller details are just as important and can be easily done especially before production begins.

I generally like the styling of the interior, does the front center armrest slide fore and aft? If not then it should. Ford should also consider auto up and down power passenger window switch.. Also do the outside mirrors have signal repeaters? Once again if they don't then they should especially if they want to keep up with the competition. I also saw very little difference with the rear styling than in my 08 Ltd awd. I thought the rear lights would be significantly different but they are not. My lease is up in a year, I really want to see what one of these looks like in front of me.

The interior looks like a hit and I cant wait to see it in person. Keep the news coming, any outside shots, engine/tranny news, anything. My lease is up Feb 2011 and would like to try for another Limited AWD. Very satisfied with the quality and build. An outstanding job by the folks at Oakville.

In my opinion Ford also needs to re-work the dash with better dash lighting, better materials such as soft touch door and dash panels all around and please dont forget the very bad radio display (one line and Crown Vic green type lighting). The cosole armrest also needs to be updated with better materials and slide function. Some lights in the console and glove box would also be welcome. My lease is up in 2011 and I know that I am satisfied with the looks and somewhat satisfied with the performance of my 08 awd but Ford needs to be proactive with upgrades and changes.

dim lighting on instrument panel/dash
goatee replied to jerrypare's topic in Audio, Backup, Navigation & SYNC
When I purchased my 08 LTD I drove it for a couple of weeks and noticed how sub-standard the gauge lighting and glare was. I actually took it to the owner of the dealer and had him assess it after a service call proved unsuccessful. He told me that it was just the way the vehicle was designed. My lighting was not in need of repair. The greenish hue is reminiscent of the many Crown Vic interior's seen on law enforcement shows everyday. Come on now, the competition is leaving us in the dust. It's hard believe it especially when I see how nice the Escape's ice blue dash panel lighting seems. Obviously the entire interior needs upgrading. Those cheap hard plastics all over the place. One can only hope the guys and gals at Ford won't get left behind in this very competative market for the 2011 model year. -
Mine is 08 Ltd awd. I really like the back up sensors. Comes in handy everyday. At work the parking lot is tight and I can back into any spot perfectly using the side mirrors and back up sensors. I am sure a camera would help but it was not available. I would opt for them on any of my next vehicles. Does that help? Good luck.

Question for newedge2 regarding PTU problem. Can you tell us the build date on your Edge? I am curious, I know that some of the 08's have the problem while others don't. Funny as I read your post, I am planning a trip there as well in the summer.

My opinion is that if I want FWD then I can get a car. AWD/4WD is for SUV/Crossovers. Otherwise why put up with the mileage, size and added cost for maintenance? I would't even consider FWD crossover or suv due to the heavy & often unpredictable snowfalls of late

Winters here in NE Ohio are also known for their snowfall. I used the stock 18" Michelins and had absolutely no problems. I live at the top of a long and particularly brutal hill and was totally in control with the AWD system just as it was equipped from the factory. IMO - no need for special tires.

My Catch-all carpeted cargo mat fits great. I have the camel interior, bought the gray mat and it really looks like the camel colored interior! I was going to return it but found the color match uncanny. I can't tell the difference between the catchall mat and the factory carpet and no I am not color blind. Also, another thing to consider is that the cargo mat is just that, it's in the cargo compartment which puts it at a different line of sight from the passenger compartment - different lighting, etc.

Mine is 08 LTD awd - ink blue. I went with the sportwing color matched body side moldings. Perfect match and they look great as well. I would do it again.

Does anyone else have this problem? My edge, with a build date of 02/08 has the camel interior color. I happened to notice the other day how much lighter the passenger airbag door on the dash is from the rest of the interior. It almost looks like it has been bleached or discolored from the sun. Since this part is detatched from the rest of the dash I was wondering if it was from a different manufacturer or if it just can't stand up to the sun & I don't live in the south (Im from Ohio). It's bad enough that the dash is all cheap looking hard plastic, but now with this obvious change in the color it makes it that much more noticeable. Any others with the same problem or experience? Thanks...

2009 Edge needs more to keep it tops in sales.A little disappointed here. Ford needs to listen to their customers. With the Venza out now, competition is even more intense in this segment. I really wanted Ford to start to step things up for the 2009 model year. Little things like outside mirrors that dim and have turn signal repeaters, cooled seats, lighted glove box and console, maybe even a power recliner for the power seats. While we are at it how about that terrible instrument panel illumination. Should have all been changed in my opinion. I was glad to see the lighted door sill option but all things being equal, sometimes a little bling will bring in the new or back the the repeat buyer. Lets face it, the Venza will have better resale just because of its nameplate.

Ford had finally decided to release its information on the 2009 Edge on the website on Halloween. A couple of key items are missing though. No price or information on the Navigation system or the Illuminated door sill plates. Lets go blue oval guys, get it together. We want to see these items also.

Gas Gauge Reads Empty but fills at 16.5 gallons
goatee replied to dtappeiner's topic in 2008 Edge & MKX
I leave mind on avg mpg. Only going to the mpg if the low fuel light goes on - then I hit the reset button and go back to the mpg screen. Its a personal choice thing. -
Gas Gauge Reads Empty but fills at 16.5 gallons
goatee replied to dtappeiner's topic in 2008 Edge & MKX
Mine was made around the same time as Lex' Edge. If my gauge reads empty I can pump about 18.5 to 19 gallons into that 20 gallon tank. I was actually kinda surprised to see it take so much. I never noticed now many miles per gallon reads on the message center. -
Take it back to the dealer. This engine is not getting enough gas or there is something wrong with the electronics. Could be anything from a bad fuel pump to some sort of computer issue or fuel injection issues or yes even bad gasoline- just be glad this doesn't happen while the car is moving.

Sounds like you made a great deal. Congrats and enjoy. I have had my 08 LTD dark blue awd since February and really enjoy it. Have received many compliments as well.
