  1. Forgot to say it in a high-pitched voice. That's the real kicker here.
  2. Yes, brake pedal depressed, safety feature. No, TCM is NOT in the PCM, it is actually in the transmission under the main cover, and is also known as the Solenoid Body Assembly, which contains the adaptive shift tables that will not be cleared by resetting the PCM.
  3. A bad MAF is a likely possibility based on your description. Unless there is a clog in the air intake tube, I don't see how that would be an issue. Maybe get a used airbox/tube/resonator assembly from the junkyard to test against. Or take the resonator off completely, cap the vent holes and recheck.
  4. Initially having the A/C in recirculate mode is key, along with having windows cracked open a bit during that time to give the hot air a place to exit. Once the cabin starts cooling down, close the windows and put the A/C in normal/vent mode.
  5. Put on new bumper stops? Is there a string attached to the right side of the door to help keep it in place?
  6. Now, it is possible you have one of the Edges involved in the coolant corrosion CSP, 09M04 I believe. A test to see if this is your issue is to check temperature at the center vents. If the left center vent is different from right center vent temperature by 15 F (?) or more, then the heater core might be plugged. But at the least, the coolant crossover tube has to be replaced and old coolant flushed. New coolant should be Motorcraft Specialty Green, not the Gold. More details in the CSP document. If the heater core is plugged, you can try to un-plug it by disconnecting the inlet and outlet hoses and then running some coolant flush chemicals through there. I have never done this myself, but there are videos on YouTube to show how it can be done. I am a bit skeptical due to small size of the tubes in the heater core, but might be worth a shot.
  7. How long (time) is a typical drive in your Edge? The colder it is when you start the engine, the longer it will take the engine to reach a good enough temperature to begin providing heated air to the cabin. In my experience, engine temperature has to be at least 100F, preferably 150F, to provide significant heat into the cabin. I would expect no longer than about 5 minutes tho from startup. Check the inlet and outlet hoses of the heater core at the firewall. Use an infrared gun to get exact temperature readings if you want. But basically, this is the quick test: Heater Core — Plugged Check to see that the engine coolant is at the correct level.Start the engine and turn on the heater. When the engine coolant reaches operating temperature, check the heater core inlet and outlet hoses to see if they are hot.If the outlet only is not hot: the heater core may have an air pocket. the heater core may be plugged. If the inlet only is not hot: the thermostat may not be working correctly.
  8. Maybe it came from a hot, humid climate originally?
  9. Specialty Green is the only "green" coolant viable for the the Edges that came equipped with the Gold (yellow) or Green coolants. So VC10 product is what you are looking for. VC5 DOES NOT WORK!!! Put the Specialty Green coolant in your "dry" engine if using Motorcraft. Yes, Peak Universal Extended Life meets/exceeds Ford specs for our Edge/MKX. Basically all these universal products have resorted to listing the ASTM specs: Meets ASTM D-3306 and ASTM D-4340Specialty Green Meets or exceeds the requirements of WSS-M97B55-A and ASTM D 3306
  10. The P008B code relates to the low pressure fuel pump in the fuel tank. The high pressure fuel pump being atop the engine. Could be the fuel pump control module at fault, or an actual restriction in the fuel line perhaps. The MAP sensor - dirty/corroded connections or loose pins in the wiring loom are typically the issue. The catalytic converter - could be a reaction to incorrect inputs for too long, such as a sticking or leaky fuel injector. They really have to give it a good checkup to figure it out.
  11. Not a lot of miles for a 2008. Was it driven mostly city/short trips? 40k would be quite a bit of wear/tear in that case. When were the oil and filter last changed. Does this problem occur across fuel fillups? Have you tried running a fuel injection cleaner through the tank? Does the condition of the oil look good? How about trans fluid? Check the spark plugs/pcv valve, clean the MAF sensor and the throttle body. A new battery might also be called for, but at a minimum, I would do a KAM/PCM reset to let the PCM learn YOUR driving style.
  12. These engines use DAMB (direct acting mechanical bucket), not lifters. I would take it to yet another dealership if all they did was diagnose by listening to the sound. Maybe even a Japanese motorcycle repair shop. They are far more experienced with DAMB and can confirm if it is indeed a valve operation issue.
  13. The precious metals is what you get money for, basically. You can check junkyards to see what they would pay, even ask your mechanic.
  14. The correct green coolant is this one https://www.fcsdchemicalsandlubricants.com/main/product.asp?product=Specialty%20Green%20Engine%20Coolant%20with%20Bittering%20Agent&category=A/C%20and%20Engine%20Cooling%20Products VC10 The one you got, VC5, is incorrect https://www.fcsdchemicalsandlubricants.com/main/product.asp?product=Premium%20Prediluted%20Antifreeze/Coolant&category=A/C%20and%20Engine%20Cooling%20Products
  15. Orange is incorrect, Green is fine. Orange came into play, I want to say 2012 MY.
  16. Cats - you do get what you pay for. In many cases, the cheap ones will rust or fail altogether. Good luck getting warranty replacements too. Not worth the hassle. IDK what used cats go for, but you will want to hang on to them for resale/recycling rather than trash them.
  17. Highly advisable to let the mechanic check out the PTU. If they find debris in the fluid, they will likely replace the unit. Trans fluid: very DIY. Calibration update means software update/revised software. So the dealership is the best place to get that done if an update DOES exist.
  18. Engine is being replaced due to water pump failure, IIRC. Cats don't die that easy on our Edge/MKX vehicles. BUT if it is within the budget, why not get a fresh start. Cats & O2 sensors.
  19. the vent solenoid valve is underneath the vehicle, the purge valve is at the firewall. Which one did you replace?
  20. Should definitely check out the PTU, some have had issues with it even with low mileage on Gen 2s. Perhaps a PCM calibration update might be available also. And of course trans fluid color/level/condition check is mandatory.
  21. Run your VIN on owner.ford.com, Recalls, to check if your Edge qualifies, and whether corrective action has already been taken.
  22. ya i am interested to see what you find by way of PCV emissions and valve seat lubrication. Sounds like a bit of hoke-dom to me, since the seats are supposed to be hardened. Is the same warning true in PFI engines too? Fuel washes over the valves and valve seats, so I imagine there is NO lubrication there.
  23. https://www.edmunds.com/bmw/x3/2018/m40i/features-specs/ https://www.caranddriver.com/reviews/2018-bmw-x3-m40i-test-review AWD, tho not apparent from the specs. 3.0-liter BMW M Performance TwinPower Turbo inline 6-cylinder, 24-valve 355-hp engine. Combines a twin-scroll turbocharger with variable valve control (Double-VANOS and Valvetronic) and high-precision direct injection 8-speed Sport Automatic transmission with Sport and Manual shift modes and steering wheel-mounted paddle shifters and Launch Control Notes on cost from C&D It’s nearly sinful that BMW charges $300 for Apple CarPlay integration when the feature is standard on numerous nonluxury vehicles (let alone BMW’s plan to charge an annual subscription fee come 2019). The M40i does include a stitched, faux-leather wrap for the dashboard; power front sport seats; three-zone automatic climate control; adaptive, full-LED headlights; and an M40i-specific body kit. Our loaded test car added Apple CarPlay, a $500 wireless phone charger, a $900 Driving Assistance package (blind-spot monitoring and lane-departure warning), a $2950 Premium package (navigation, a head-up display, and a heated steering wheel), plus $350 for heated front and rear seats, and a $2550 Executive package (gesture-based infotainment controls, a 12.3-inch digital gauge cluster, a self-parking system, and a 360-degree parking camera). Toss in the aforementioned adaptive suspension and bigger wheels, plus $550 Phytonic Blue paint, and the total came to $65,245. That counts as reasonable in this class these days. You can take a Porsche Macan to $100K and beyond, after all. Premium Fuel is recommended, but not required Drop in the MKZ's 3.0EB, may have an even contest, tho I think drivetrain/suspension design holds the Edge back somewhat. Remains to be seen what all the upgrades that snmjim, SpecialK, Xtra, etc are doing will result in.
