Welcome and Congrats What color, how many miles, AWD/FWD, etc? Post pics if you got 'em!

In the absence of whining or grinding type noises, the PTU is reusable. You would want to flush it thoroughly though before you put it back in place. The question is, since it is out of the vehicle, you can't drive it around or turn the wheels to help with the flush. So while it is on the bench, best you can do is either a) fill to the bottom of the fill plug hole, drain, repeat, then final fill, OR b) pry the vent off carefully with a screwdriver, use that as a fill hole, and use the fill hole as a drain hole, run at least 32 ounces of fluid out the drain hole, reinstall the vent. Then reinstall. Some have taken the PTU apart to take a look. It is not a terrible job if you are mechanically inclined. FordTechMakuloco has a video on his channel on YT on what it looks like inside.

Was that National Speed in Virginia where that pic was taken?

Yeah, that would force me to make a move as well

Sorry to see the Edge go, but I am guessing lack of warranty has something to do with it as well. Best of luck with the new ride, hope it works out for you. The tech will definitely be more uptodate, and probably get better mileage too!

2011-2014 are Gen 1.5, 2015-18, Gen 2, 2019-??? Gen 2.5 So coils will work fine on the 3.5/3.7 for Gen 1.5 and 3.5 on Gen 2, need to buy plugs and gaskets separately. Coils are a steal with this kit.

2016 3.5 Slams into 2nd gear under light acceleration
WWWPerfA_ZN0W replied to ben senise's topic in 3.5L
Probably effected a KAM reset. If the emissions monitors are in learning phase, then it is a wait and see period. I have had this "placebo" effect before. BUT if they cleared the transmission adaptives, then you just might have a fix on hand. Forscan can reset for previous generations, IDK about Gen 2+. -
8T4Z-7275-CC is the seal kit referred to by TSB 09-25-7 regarding leaks affecting the PTU. It contains PTU cover seal, intermediate shaft seal, alignment washer, deflector, and seal protector. You can also buy seals individually as kits for each location, such as listed here: https://www.fordpartsgiant.com/parts-list/2007-ford-edge/transmission-external-components.html The rear output flange seal kit (PTU-driveshaft) is separate from the kit above EB5Z-7275-A Kit Kit - Seal SEAL, OIL - REAR OUTPUT FLANGE , Includes Pinion Nut And Radial Pinion Seal Base Number: 7275A Callout Name: 7275A Replaced by: GB5Z-7275-A $15.48 $10.78

I believe zazzy has a writeup (kind of) regarding this work on his MKX. It will take at least 8 hours of time to do this, since the dash has to be pulled. Advisable to replace heater core and evaporator core as a unit, using Motorcraft parts, for a lasting repair. Are you sure the procedure you quoted above was for a Ford Edge and not a Ford Ranger?

Problems with warning lights on a trip? 08 MKX
WWWPerfA_ZN0W replied to John Rom's topic in 2008 Edge & MKX
Oh no! Classic TSS OSS sensor (transmission) problems. Best to not drive it anymore till they are replaced. About 4 hrs worth of labor, + maybe 150$ in motorcraft sensors. Codes won't necessarily set. Depends on how bad it is allowed to get. At this point, it is not really hurting the internals of the trans. Allowed to continue, it definitely will. -
Congrats, and best of luck

There are two weep holes. The "minor" one is in the engine valley and can be seen with some effort and a strong light, towards the bottom left of the intake manifold. The "major" one, where the BIG leak tends to happen is above the alternator/compressor, so to the side of the block. Again difficult to see. A borescope might make it easier in both cases. This is true for ALL 3.5/3.7 engines used in the Edge/MKX. Also of the 3.5 Ecoboost engine used in the transverse configuration.

Welcome to the community!

If the leak is ONLY from the vent, yes, there is a chance. If it however is from one of the 3 seals around the PTU, seal replacement is necessary. If that seal is the transmission to PTU seal, you will be faced with the question of replacing the PTU, as the labor is the same to either replace the seal or replace the seal AND the PTU. Drilling the drain plug is simply a way to make fluid changes easier.

2016 Edge Sport (G2) Front & Rear Sway Bars
WWWPerfA_ZN0W replied to snmjim's topic in Brakes, Chassis & Suspension
Those rear sway bars on FWD biased vehicles do make a big difference. They tend to be undersized from factory for understeer aka "safety", rather than flat/neutral handling. Do not need to change both, you need to change the relative size of the bar. So a beefier rear sway bar will get you there. -
A visual inspection of the components I mentioned is up next then.

Welcome! How old is the battery in your Edge? Have you checked the CCAs on it? Electrical problems can often be traced to a dead/dying battery. Does not sound like an issue with the wheel speed sensors or the tone ring on the axle. BUT it could be dirty connectors at the ABS module, in addition to a poorly function battery. So those 2 places are where I would start.

Power Liftgate Issue
WWWPerfA_ZN0W replied to milktruk's topic in Alarms, Keyless Entry, Locks & Remote Start
Either need to recalibrate or replace the hatch struts first. Especially if the struts are original to the vehicle. Might still need to replace the motor, but try the lesser cost options first. -
What have you done to/with your Edge/MKX today?
WWWPerfA_ZN0W replied to WWWPerfA_ZN0W's topic in Accessories & Modifications
Sweet video XDI HPFPs high pressure fuel pumps are a reported fit for the F150 2.7 and the Fusion 2.7, so just might fit the Edge as well. Various vendors carry them, and they sometimes have sales on them as well.
