Slammed on brakes...now brakes squishy!
WWWPerfA_ZN0W replied to HarvNasty's topic in Brakes, Chassis & Suspension
Most likely booster, blew the diaphragm during that hard stop. FSA/CSP 13N02, warranty extension to 10 years from original date of sale or 150K miles whichever comes first, if your Edge was produced during the defined period. Did the ABS activate at all? -
Possibly (taking a wild guess) a problem with the headlamp switch, may be shorted internally. Hopefully the SJB (the brains behind the operation) is not damaged. Principles of Operation NOTE: The Smart Junction Box (SJB) is also known as the Generic Electronic Module (GEM). The SJB monitors the headlamp switch position by sending voltage signals on multiple circuits to the headlamp switch. There is one circuit for each headlamp switch position. At any given time, one of the signal circuits is routed to ground. If the SJB does not detect any of the inputs to the headlamp switch are active (routed to ground) for 5 seconds, the SJB turns on the exterior lights and keeps them on for 10 minutes after the ignition switch is turned off (or 10 minutes from the time the SJB does not detect any headlamp switch input if the ignition switch was already off). Additionally, if the SJB detects multiple circuits short to ground, the SJB implements a planned strategy depending on the multiple inputs received. If either of these situations occur, the SJB cannot be ruled immediately as being at fault. This is normal behavior of the SJB design as it has detected a fault with the inputs from the headlamp switch. When the SJB receives an input from the headlamp switch indicating a request for the parking lamps, the SJB energizes the parking lamp relay (integrated into the SJB ), which supplies voltage to the exterior lamps.

If the oil stays clean, the question would be whether the radiator fans are working correctly. If they are, then unless you have a rare situation like a leaking hose or rusted thermostat housing, it will be the water pump. The coolant leaks out from the weephole in the valley of the block on the passenger side. So if that area is wet/green, you know you have a water pump issue to deal with. There is another weephole on that side of the block, above the alternator, and it can leak out of there as well. How to check the weephole in the valley of the block

What have you done to/with your Edge/MKX today?
WWWPerfA_ZN0W replied to WWWPerfA_ZN0W's topic in Accessories & Modifications
You might want to arm yourself with an OBD II reader and Forscan Lite. These are essential tools for the modern vehicle, since the advent of OBD II anyway. The reader must be able to get info from both the HSCAN and MSCAN buses. Hopefully Autozone reads all the modules, I have heard they only retrieve powertrain Pxxxx codes. -

Check to see if there are any codes set, that might provide some insight into the fault. Might be the same reason why remote start fails to work, i.e., an important code is set and materially affects function. -

Have not really found any. The Sachs labeled products seem to do quite well tho. I am about to put Motorcrafts on. -

Cooling Fans Won't Turn On, MKX Overheated, schematics needed
WWWPerfA_ZN0W replied to jeffr_vws's topic in 3.5L
If the wiring harness and connectors at both ends (fan and PCM) look good, then yes, it could be a PCM issue. Reprogram or update the calibration. If the PCM already has the latest calibration, carry out the RELEARN VEHICLE DATA procedure from the SERVICE FUNCTIONS menu on the scan tool. Check for other DTCs or drive symptoms for further action. Make sure to check for aftermarket performance products before installing a new PCM. If it is necessary to install a new PCM, refer to Section 2, Flash Electrically Erasable Programmable Read Only Memory (EEPROM) , Programming the VID Block for a replacement PCM. -
Cylinder 3 does seem to be problematic, and points to the origin possibly being due to an injector issue. I would replace all of them, budget permitting. Since the intake has to be taken off anyway, good time to check all the plugs and coils, to make sure to not caught in the plug/coil/PCM vicious cycle. If only the plugs look worn out, replace them all. If ANY of the coils look cracked, burnt or carboned, ALL of them need to be serviced simultaneously to fix this for the longterm. circuitboardmedics.com can fix the PCM for far less than a new one would cost. Ford has a kit they issued for the plug/coil issue. Do not ask dealers about it. Buy online direct from the dealer. About 180 or less shipped for plugs/coils/gaskets.

2012 Edge continued brake trouble
WWWPerfA_ZN0W replied to joshgfeller's topic in Brakes, Chassis & Suspension
How many miles on your Edge? During the whole brake experience, were the brakes and the ABS properly bled? Those are 2 separate actions. The one we think of normally is bleeding using the calipers. The ABS bleed is actuated by a dealer or high level scan tool. As far as service advancetrak, when does it come on? After extended idling, or while driving? Check for codes in the PCM. Check the tone rings on the axles. And check the wheel speed sensor connections. -
Changing plugs coils and PCM must happen AT THE SAME TIME to not get into a vicious cycle of broken parts. If you are still using that old fried PCM, hopefully it will not damage the new parts you have put in, fingers crossed ... https://drive.google.com/open?id=1czHMWAr-qhOMt6BeNl7FG2vhIrH946ux

2012 Edge Brake Issue With A Twist
WWWPerfA_ZN0W replied to MikeRush's topic in Brakes, Chassis & Suspension
Sounds like air in the ABS system. Had it bled? -
If it is leaking into the engine, it is either being combusted (check coolant for combustion gases) or mixing into the oil. The pistons will also look abnormally clean where the leak is. If the leak is into the turbo, the intercooler will tell that tale. In either case, exhaust fumes MAY also be a telltale. Smaller displacement EBs had an issue with the cylinder heads microcracking. Has not affected the 2.0 yet ...
