  1. Manuals can be had much cheaper off of auction sites, and they may even list DVDs (even cheaper). I prefer having the book, always, but the DVD is nice too.
  2. Agreed, should not be speeding where avoidable. But having a cop on the forum should not be a deterrent. The deterrent should be internal, it's called "conscience". Besides, as you said, people should not be speeding for the simple reason that they don't usually think about the ramifications, or are insufficiently experienced in minimizing negative outcomes. Today, you can get into a car and speed and not even realize it. I often wonder if we shouldn't have more driver's ed classes, whether for a firsttime licensee or renewal licensee. Maybe add a short course on the ill effects of irresponsible driving!
  3. I am running Nitto CrossTek on mine (came with the truck). Haven't evaluated them on hard braking, as I tend to keep my distance due to the truck's less-than-stellar braking. Other than that, I have never had to think about tire performance, in dry or wet. Waiting for snow/ice to set in ...
  4. Welcome to the forum, and nicely done on the mods!
  5. Great photo history! You mentioned using a high quality gear oil. Since the Ford specified oil is unsatisfactory, what did you have in mind? The NPT tap ... Would the engine oil drain plug fit in there safely? Is there any way to flush the PTU without disassembling it? For example, use the vent with some appropriate flexible tubing for the flush? Looking forward to your experience with the "live" PTU
  6. Welcome! The PDF Cellbine referenced is pretty well illustrated, should give you a good headstart. Document everything as you go so it's easy to reverse steps to finish the install. I assume since you are proactive that you are checking the transmission fluid level as well?
  7. Welcome to the forum! We will need some information about your vehicle first to of help to you. Most vehicles equipped with computer brains require some sort of reset procedure once the battery has been disconnected. At least in the 2007 Edge, the transaxle adaptive strategy has to be relearned (while u drive) over time. This thread may be of use to you: http://www.fordedgeforum.com/topic/3072-accelerator-response/
  8. ^ Interesting info. Looking forward to your updates after disassembling the failed PTU.
  9. Just picked up on this. Simply crazy and an act of depravity! Condolences and prayers for all those in the school's community. I give thanks for this forum, a great and supportive community, electronic tho it may be. I wish for this to be as common in real life, everywhere.
  10. three things to check off the top of my head: The ECU/PCM, the throttle body, and the vehicle speed sensor. Hopefully nothing more serious than that.
  11. Someone was kind enough to post the instructions elsewhere on this forum, but here's the direct link: http://www.paulstravelpictures.com/Ford-Edge-Door-Panel-Removal-Speaker-Replacement-Guide/index.html
  12. Good question, don't have an answer for current generation vehicles. Supposedly now, the engines are "broken in" at the factory, plus the oil they put in there does not require a shortened first change interval. The other key was gentle driving during this "break-in" period. Better safe than sorry, I say. If the normal interval is 5,000 miles, I do the first oil change at 1/2 of that or 2,500 miles. It's just one oil change, so I'd say well worth it if nothing else to put your mind at ease.
  13. Excellent work, and nice looking vehicle! How long did it take you to attach the molding? Did you find it easy to do? I am in the process of doing mine right now, and it was a PITA to get the masking tape to lay straight and at the right level. The doors on the Edge are quite contoured, so taking measurements was interesting. Only got one side done for now, on to the other one!
  14. Seems to be a $7K disparity in Mustang and Genesis pricing; that's over 25%! I am sure that adding a supercharger and some minor suspension upgrades would get you a far more aggressive pony for still under the cost of the current Genesis offering. But it's good to have competition! P.S.: My real complaint with the mustang has always been the heavy doors. Other than that, I have enjoyed driving every version of it from the L4 on up. Takes a bit of control in bad weather (i.e. snow/ice), but appropriate tires help a lot
  15. Glad you made it thru Sandy ok! Welcome to the Edge family, and post some pics of your awesome new ride
  16. The door lock actuator or door latch (both part of the door assembly) = most likely culprits. A trip to the dealer or service shop may be in order.
  17. I believe the ladies might call it ecru, not creme color Very nice.
  18. Quite a journey for you. Hope you get a fix once and for all!
  19. Idling, accelerating, and/or using any accessories (electronics/HVAC/etc.) seem to consume the most fuel per the mpg display. Makes sense. Right after filling up gas, I was able to featherfoot my way home, and achieved 22.0 mpg on the way back (all city, no hwy, but almost no stopping). In the evening, after a short trip around town (including necessary hard acceleration), back to about 16.7 mpg. Thhhhppphttt ...
  20. Usually, kinked/cracked washer fluid tubes or a dying windshield washer motor will be the culprits. Could also be clogged/plugged nozzles, but seems less likely.
  21. You know, they used to advertise a product on TV to protect gutters. It was spray-on and nothing would stick to the gutters, so cleanup was a breeze/self-maintaining. PlastiDip in its' infancy?
