According to the manual, A/C turns on automatically with the DEFROST function. You can try turning that off. I did not find any mention in the Owners Manual that the defroster air will only blow cold. Do you have automatic climate control? You can try putting it into manual mode and then turn on the DEFROST. No heating/cooling problems otherwise in the cabin?

The oil filter itself is leaking? Wow! Hope it wasn't a Motorcraft? Never had a unit leak on me through many, many OCs.

With the shortened cycle this MY (end of March, was it?), it is entirely possible that the Jan '14 show will reveal the production model, albeit with a few minor "show only" tweaks. I just hope that color from the concept vehicle makes it into production. If they do go all-Ecoboost, hopefully the MKX will get a larger EB version, or at least a V6 naturally aspirated version. The V6 MUST survive! Wouldn't be totally against a small displacement V8 either

Door latch! Lubricating the latch has helped some folks for sure. Preferably with an electronics-safe cleaner if not opening up the door panel.

Turning in either direction produce the sound? Any change in steering effort? Fluid quality/level ok? How many miles on your Edge? Could be time to try flushing the PS system. I think I did read about the rack having to be replaced on a couple of Edges on this forum, but not a common occurrence for sure.

BUT, yeah, if the coils wear out (excessive resistance in the circuit), the PCM can eventually fry, which would potentially account for the $2,800 fix the mechanic was referring to.
