Could be a Transmission Range sensor going bad on you. Unable to determine which gear you are shifting to.

Buying 2011 Ford Edge Sport - ESP? TireCare?
WWWPerfA_ZN0W replied to Matthew Davis's topic in Buying, Leasing & Ordering
Can't comment on the plans, but I do know people have successfully shopped for them online & are happy with the pricing. Flood has one of the best prices around. The only thing to consider is out-of-pocket costs. When buying with the vehicle, rolled into financing; buying separately, a lumpsum. *Curb and cosmetic damages to the wheels are excluded. -
Hawk HPS are some of the best low-dusting pads around, they need to be bedded in properly for optimal performance (VERY important). I personally would stay away from drilled/slotted rotors unless appeareance/tracking/frequent hard stops criteria are involved. Most rotors are bored/slotted AFTER manufacture, not created with the bores/slots cast into the mold.

Blame it on the weather, everyone else does Are you idling your Edge longer? Checked all fluid levels? When was oil changed last? Have the spark plugs ever been changed? Notice any difference in behavior, like rough idle, misfires, etc.? Checked tire pressures?

A fast ticking sound is usually the fuel injectors (quite normal, hear it even on Lexus with the hood up). A slow tick/knock is quite another animal.

Buying a used 2007 Ford Edge
WWWPerfA_ZN0W replied to Jessica Nickerson's topic in Buying, Leasing & Ordering
Is it an AWD or a FWD? The three main things that come immediately to mind: make sure the vista roof is properly lubricated before you get it, no problems with the driver door latching properly, and if AWD then no problems with the PTU (transmission). Make sure you flog it a bit on your test drive, it should work smoothly, drive straight, and in general be to your satisfaction. Look up the Carfax/Autocheck reports to make sure no accidents. In addition, the latest updates to the PCM (computer) should have been applied. Any warranty choices being offered? You probably have room to work them down on price, so that their asking price is out the door price at most. 2011 & up models do have improvements overall, but as a 2007 owner, I don't think there is anything wrong with buying a 2007 either. Go in with your eyes open, as with any negotiation. -
I hope the snow will "come and go"! Our county is basically on the border of light & heavy snow lines. Fingers crossed!

Do you know of/have you heard of Rudy's Automotive in San Angelo? Only 3 reviews on yelp (one of my info sources), but a possibility. Love Field Auto in Dallas (yelp). Also Chris Murphy's Automotive in Dallas (repairpal). If you cannot find someone by W.O.M., then look at suggested shops on yelp, repairpal, aaa, etc. If they have been in business for some time, it is more likely they will be able to give you the "old school" approach you desire.

Ya, I thought it should be G3 too!

call me fickle - why "they" win

How many of these features show up in the 2015 redesign? I am sure Ford is looking hard at the competition, and at some point they will leapfrog them. My impression from reviews of the govt "rescue" brands is that they are looking to razzle dazzle buyers into not thinking of longterm ownership & reliability, you know, "practical" decision criteria. -
The main issue with the AWD is the possibility that the PTU will leak/overheat. Despite what Ford says, establishing a regular PTU fluid change interval should help longevity. I do not have an SCT tune (yet), but when I communicated with Torrie at Unleashed Tuning, the tune can be optimized for MPG, or performance, or both. You may gain a few HP/TQ, but don't expect miracles. The beauty will be in how well the engine & drivetrain work together AFTER the tune. Plus you will be able to datalog, which can help the tuner (e.g., Torrie) refine the tune specifically for your Edge.
-
Welcome & congrats on your '10 Edge! Is it an AWD or FWD? The 3.5 is generally a sturdy, reliable engine. But there aren't really any available drop-in performance mods for it. The most significant mod would be a tune. CAI/exhaust systems currently available are more "appearance" mods than "power" mods. Part of the issue is the power handling capability of the transmission. While well equipped to deal with 265+ hp (officially anyway), there isn't headroom for much more. The tune would allow you to improve the behavior of the transmission to suit your driving style, and that is the real benefit. There are one-off instances of a turbo having been added, but they are expensive (think $8K as a starting point), and their power add/reliability is undocumented. Maintenance is the best "mod" you can do for your Edge, even if you have a fully documented service history. If you do not have a warranty on it and have an AWD, consider the PTU "upgrade" of adding a drain plug (posts by the_natrix) to it and flushing the PTU fluid. That is an unofficial maintenance item that has proven valuable to drivers of other Ford AWD vehicles. Look up owner's manuals at owner.ford.com (Vehicle Basics -> Owner's Manuals), then pick your Edge) if you do not have them handy. There is a maintenance guide in there also.

Contact him anyway. Levittown is in NY, and they do international shipping all the time. Yeah, it WOULD be easier if you lived in Toronto or Ottawa, and could drive across the border to pickup

Post in the Levittown Ford SuperCenter thread, Benny will take care of you!
