How long have you had the Edge? I don't believe this is the case here but ... A rare issue that you can run into is the non-removal of "pucks" inserted into the suspension during the transportation process to keep the suspension from bouncing. The dealership is supposed to remove them before the customer takes delivery. A likelier possibility is that the previous owner installed sport springs (H&R's for example), and did not return to stock. Can you post pics of your Edge? That would help us affirm/eliminate that possibility.

Sorry to hear about your experience, can definitely be frightening!!! What year & model is your Edge, how many miles? FWD/AWD? Any problems with the brakes before this? I would put chains on all 4 tires, since putting on only 2 gives the Edge unequal purchase on the roadway.

PTU Replacement and now Transmission
WWWPerfA_ZN0W replied to adoble's topic in All Wheel Drive (AWD)
Maria, it is very possible that the transmission has suffered internal damage, likely from a continuing leak from the axle seal. I don't know if anyone has attempted to crack open and repair the transmission. Was the sound you heard a grinding or screeching sound? Checking the dipstick would tell you if fluid is low, but that requires a warmup of a "normal" 20 mile drive. If you can drain the trans fluid, or have it drained, check it carefully for signs of burnt fluid and/or suspended metal particles. IF there are no metal particles, you may have a chance to save the transmission by a) replacing the leaky seal, and completely replacing (not flushing) the fluid. About 5 quarts comes out at a time from the drain plug. So you would repeat the drain & fill (with fresh Mercon V fluid) three times, running the engine (while parked) for a few minutes in between. This gives you a relatively easy way to get a near complete fluid replacement. And, you should change mechanics ASAP. Find someone good by word-of-mouth, or look up a reputable service garage/Ford dealership on the internet (yelp, repairpal, etc). -
Mpg is pretty good for only 2K on the clock. Sorry that you have to deal with the issue so soon!

You should definitely put a call into the dealership. This is not an uncommon problem. They may have to drop the fuel tank to access the pump/sender for a fix. As far as Miles to Empty, that is based on the last MPG before fillup. What MPG did it say you were getting?

PTU Replacement and now Transmission

Have you had the dealer install their "black box" to get "real world" data? Maybe that will get them what they need to effect a proper repair/replacement. -
Front end noise....need help
WWWPerfA_ZN0W replied to firefightermtn's topic in Brakes, Chassis & Suspension
Could be wheel bearings, or a pulley bearing. Whirring sounds are not typical of a wheel bearing. BUT, if it is directional (turning left), then most likely the RIGHT wheel bearing (opposite side) needs to be replaced. The part itself can be $80 or more, cheaper if mail ordered thru Levittown. I just priced both bearings at $132 shipped to MD. Both hub assemblies would be $150 shipped. Talk to Benny/post on their thread for more info. If the price quoted includes bearings, that is a good price based on Repairpal estimates. -
Yeah, baby! Time to get those skis shined up!

I am seeing a lot of Chevy Traverses on the road

Have seen many more Edge's recently, not really any Traverse's in my immediate area. -
PTU Replacement and now Transmission
WWWPerfA_ZN0W replied to adoble's topic in All Wheel Drive (AWD)
Though there are TSBs concerning the transmission, haven't really heard of outright failure. Seal leaks, valve body adjustments, reprogramming, etc, but not outright failures. PTUs are a whole different story. -
What year Edge do you have? wannabang did a writeup on his 2008 camera install. I assume you have a display in your center console that can be connected to the camera?
-
That is correct. Very common problem on the Edge. Also, check your brake fluid level in the reservoir. If it is substantially less than the full (MAX) mark, your brakes are also substantially worn out.

lowered my edge but dont know how to fix camber on rear tires
WWWPerfA_ZN0W replied to jmoney23's topic in 2007 Edge & MKX
It is adjustable, but camber and toe affect each other, per the manual. Camber Adjustment — Rear CAUTION: Before tightening any suspension bushing fasteners, the suspension must be at the bushing fastener tightening position. NOTE: When making rear alignment adjustments, it is important to know that when adjustments are made to the rear toe, the rear camber will also be adjusted (in the same direction as the toe adjustment). When making adjustments to the rear camber, the rear toe will also be adjusted (in the opposite direction of the camber adjustment). It will be necessary to check the rear camber whenever rear toe adjustments are made and to check the rear toe whenever rear camber adjustments are made. Using alignment equipment and the manufacturer's instructions, measure the rear camber.Loosen the rear camber adjustment bolt. Rotate the camber adjustment bolt until the camber setting is within specifications. CAUTION: Before tightening any suspension bushing fasteners, the weight of the vehicle must be resting on the wheels and tires. NOTE: Do not allow the camber cam adjuster to rotate while tightening the bolt. Tighten the camber adjustment bolt to 150 Nm (111 lb-ft). Recheck the rear camber and toe. Adjust as necessary. -
Welcome to the forum, sorry to hear about your troubles! Is the remote start a Ford or an aftermarket product? Have you replaced the battery in the FOB recently? What kind of weather do you have in your location right now? Are you able to drive the Edge otherwise without issues?

I think it gives it a more rugged, truck-like character. Not so sure it fits in with the Edge theme if the lettering is on the larger size.

That does look sweet! Any specs available yet?

Use an adapter ring to fit the '10 wheel on an '11 hub ('11 hub size is smaller than '10).
-
Could they be from the striker hitting the latch while locking/unlocking? Insufficient clearance?

For the 3.5L, tuning & springs are about the best available options out there. The 3.7L has a few more, due to shared use with the Mustang.

Nothing in the manual about anything else to remove. I would gently tap the cover all around with a rubber mallet to break the seal/gasket as it may be firmly on there. 150K miles on an '07 would likely cause a death grip. Just be persistent.

Welcome to the Edge community! There are quite a few ideas/projects for mods around this forum. Root around, ask questions, and add your own
