  1. That's exactly my point. The mfr will generally choose what meets their requirements, not the requirements of performance-minded drivers. In the case of the 6F55, though, there seems to be quite a bit more headroom than on the 6F50, should you choose to modify. The choice of engines really is irrelevant in the overall picture, NA or EB. Simply the mfr's choice how much they leave on the table for the owner to tinker with.
  2. My guess is product differentiation. Can't have the same trans in the Edge as in the Explorer/Flex. Why have we been limited so far?
  3. The engine isn't the issue, it is what is attached to it that's the issue. You could probably get a few more ponies out of it with a tune, but would have a hard time putting it to the ground. Right now, you can squeeze out 25-35% out of a 3.5L EB TT with only a tune, but then the trans has proven to hold up to it. Not the case with the Edge AFAIK. The PTU is still the weak point, so maybe going with FWD might be better for performance-seekers. The amount of fluid in the PTU is just laughable, assuming it is even filled correctly at the factory.
  4. I believe the 2.7L EB is reserved for the Sport? At least it's a V6 I don't think they are really building headroom into the powertrain for performance-izing the engine (due to trans limits), so it will be WYSIWYG, as with prior Edge iterations.
  5. I bought mine off EBay a year and a half ago (manual liftgate). They started acting up again this year once the colder weather set in. I think I have a 2 year warranty limited lifetime warranty from the seller, let's see how a return/replacement goes http://www.ebay.com/itm/370924078321
  6. It is possible that the Restraint Control Module has been damaged (even if airbag did not deploy), and you should make sure that is among the parts replaced. The harness to/from it should be checked for shorting also.
  7. EBay is the easiest way to get it, but there are other sites that sell the manuals at full price. The alternative is to buy a subscription to the information online (such as at mitchell or alldata). Maybe motorcraft also provides access online, not sure.
  8. Probably referring to a PCV vent? Might be as simple as replacing the valve & hoses?
  9. This is what the OM has to say about it: Heated outside mirrors (if equipped) Both mirrors are heated automatically to remove ice, mist and fog when the rear window defrost is activated. Do not remove ice from the mirrors with a scraper or attempt to readjust the mirror glass if it is frozen in place. These actions could cause damage to the glass and mirrors. Do not clean the housing or glass of any mirror with harsh abrasives, fuel or other petroleum-based cleaning products.
  10. Wow, not good! I certainly hope Ford has mitigation in place, as that is a definite and known fault with the engine/production process. They seem to have known about since at least March 2008? Wow. Most reports of leaks have been PTU related, either a seal failure or the PTU vent spitting up its' lubricant.
  11. Check the seat track bolts from underneath the Edge, they may need to be tightened. Is the ratcheting mechanism firmly seated in the groove? Maybe move to a different notch?
  12. Instructions for cleaning: http://www.knfilters.com/video/Cabin_Air_Filter_Cleaning.html http://www.knfilters.com/instructions/18685_Inst.pdf
  13. I meant the slender long curved cover on each side of the floor shifter trim cover itself, very early on in the video. I wonder why they would make it difficult to remove the trim?
  14. Here is a video from Coastal for their LockPick product: Though they don't remove the trim ring, they do pry off the cover on each side to expose screws. Maybe that will do the trick?
  15. Ouch! Glad you are ok, the Edge may have taken a hit to the BCM or relays, it looks like. Check underhood fuses to see what might be blown.
  16. Best wishes to your wife for a speedy recovery and resumption of an active life, akirby
  17. I saw an Engine Oil Pressure warning but not an Engine Oil Life display in the 2010 Owner's Manual. I think your mom is doing a great job! But if using Ford SynBlend, 5K/6months whichever comes first on a normal duty cycle should be fine. Extreme conditions, like repeated stop-n-go in city traffic, 3K/3 months would be better. Aftermarket full-syn oils can last longer.
  18. Have seen a guy "transplant" a Sync3 system into a Sync2 SHO. Supposedly everything works except the nav display in the gauge cluster area. Even that may be resolvable, they think, but that might require a dealer to turn on a thing or two via IDS.
  19. Ask Benny (LevittownFordSuperCenter) to see if anything can be done about shipping? If the second shaft you picked out isn't corroded, maybe it can be lathed smooth. But I wouldn't know how tight the clearances are with the seal, so it might still leak.
