Yeah, it's pretty sad what people are being told. As a mfr, you try to test the most "real-world" conditions that you can, and come up with a service interval recommendation. When they say 150K (lifetime), that means the trans can probably last 150K without a fluid change. If the fluid weren't in constant contact with moving parts, I MIGHT agree. But it is being threshed and chewed up the whole time. I certainly wouldn't go 150K on OEM "synthetic" fluid. It's not expensive at all to get a fluid change (not flush) done every 50K-60K, and if you are planning to keep your vehicle, why wouldn't you do it?

Mandrel bends are the best bends I know of when it comes to hard lines, but if the tech is skilled, they can hand bend the lines (hand tools) without causing pressure-increasing restrictions. Seen it done all the time with brake lines, so I assume power steering lines are no different. So yeah, if the bend was done incorrectly, a pressure point can be created and a path of least resistance for relief will be taken. -

Sorry to hear about the myriad issues and the substandard service received. I know several of our members are up in the NJ area, and hope they can recommend a dealership to you. Otherwise, try a Lincoln dealership instead. If the rest of your documentation is as good as this, you should be bale to make a solid case to follow up with Ford. IMHO: Anyway, PTU looks dry that's good. Assuming it had fluid to being with, which would be logical, since you are not getting any grinding noises or anything. Still worth checking fluid level. Clunks in the transmission CAN originate from the RDU if it is short on fluid. The RDU might need to be replaced, in fact. Hopefully it will be a simple case of refilling fluid, perhaps extending the vent (a la Mustang), but it seems unlikely. Power steering fluid level: low or OK, clean or dirty? May need to be flushed as contaminants can block passageways and raise pressure leading to further leaks. Puzzled by the "filter". Will look further into this. Looks like it was phased out in 2006. Is the Edge new to you, or did you but it "nused"? Is yours one of the early 2011 builds? Wonder if it was used as a test vehicle ... -

IDK. If you can get AWD brackets locally, trial-and-error may be the best bet. -
24 mpg is not too bad or a FWD with mostly highway miles, but by now probably you could do better with the EB engine, even at 70 mph. Scheduled maintenance on time? Tire pressure regularly checked? Cold weather can reduce air pressure significantly. One of the things on turbo motors is they like to eat plugs. So even if they tell you 50K or 100K life, if you want optimum performance: a) Check plugs at least by 25-30K, and gap them properly. Even from the factory, the gaps are known not to be set properly. If gap growth from new is over 0.010, you are losing performance. If you see carbon deposits, the vehicle is running rich OR too much oil in the PCV fumes making it into the combustion chamber OR you have a leaky fuel injector.

I believe the calipers are the same FWD/AWD, just the front rotors are larger on the AWD (rears the same). You will have to reuse the FWD caliper brackets, as they have different part numbers for the AWD. That's the only difference of note that I see. -

I don't know directly about the dealer, since I have an ESP plan in place, so only deductible. BUT on my dealer's invoice, I see "claims or adjustments must be made 4000 miles or 90 days from date of work". I assume that is SOP at dealerships. I should have asked, this is a Ford dealership? I assumed so, since you were trying to contact FordService. I know parts are now covered 2 yr/unlimited miles, not sure about repair work. 3 months is pretty sad, considering I can easily get a year/12,000 mile warranty from well-qualified aftermarket service shops. -

Nope. The dealer probably can through IDS, but the customer cannot. The spare tire may have TPMS, in which case, it could be the one setting off the alarm as well. Mine on the 2007 go off around 28 psi or lower.

Should be fine temporarily, just drive conservatively. Teenagers Also, did you check the fluid level on level ground, with the engine running, transmission warmed up, and having rowed through the gears a couple times with the foot on the brake/parking brake on? Otherwise you will get an incorrect reading. If you should need trans fluid, it will be of the Mercon V type, not Mercon LV. I use Castrol Transmax, but major auto store brand of Mercon V is fine too. -
Does Ford have this in any of their late model vehicles? Haven't seen any, and the FSM's say you need a "system" to properly bleed the coolant of air. Hence the approach of running the heat at full blast, driving for some time at engine operating temperature, and refilling the degas/overflow bottle to the fill line with engine at ambient, multiple times as needed.

Don't want to compromise the PTU or the transmission. Right now it seems the Edge is leaking transmission fluid. That would indicate the seals just replaced are faulty/improperly installed. I assume the color was reddish at that time also? PTU leaks are dark brown, and if fresh, stinky. Please confirm that it was an input shaft seal that was replaced? How long ago was the seal replacement done? Those PTU/trans seals need to be replaced again, and under warranty, by the dealer. The PTU itself should be OK, no need for replacement. After you get the seals replaced, find a shop in your area that performs BG services, and have the PTU flushed/refilled. That will be the single best thing you can have done for it. Good luck. -
