What to expect at 200,000+ miles
WWWPerfA_ZN0W replied to macbwt's topic in Brakes, Chassis & Suspension
GM had issues with their coils cracking because of aging plastic, though sadly, they are not the only mfr with this problem. Apparently it has hit even Porsche! What brand replacement parts did you use? Sometimes you HAVE to go OEM even at the cost -

You've summed up a lot of people's frustrations in one swoop, XdaX67. The vehicle you get back (when you get it back) will not be in nearly the same condition as it was when you had to "turn it in" for the recall. Providing a rental does help to some degree, but it is certainly not acceptable fix when your vehicle is left out in the elements day after day. Now if appropriate storage and maintenance precautions are taken in the meanwhile, I would find that acceptable. I don't think you can press people on their credit situation, akirby, that is a hot potato IMHO. Could easily be through no fault of their own. The turbulent economy the last few years has put a lot of people practically on the street that normally wouldn't be. And try replacing a vehicle like the Edge which you bought for say, $18,000, for family use, and now have to replace with an Escape or Focus. Nobody deserves to be crammed in like sardines. Used car prices are also higher than they used to be due to the shortage created by the Cash for Clunkers program. So are people feeling squeezed? Mightily so.

Couldn't agree more, though how much success you will have will depend on your personal fortitude. Battery, oil, fluids, brakes, drivetrain, all will be subject to close inspection before next startup, not to mention body condition.

air intake waste of money on edge
WWWPerfA_ZN0W replied to Matt Ives's topic in Accessories & Modifications
That feeds clean air from the intake into the crankcase (positive pressure) that helps push vapors out the PCV valve and back into the combustion chamber on the other side. So I'd personally leave the tube there, but if you still want to proceed, no significant harm should come of using a breather on the valve cover end instead, don't plug it. You can plug the connection on the intake end though. I'd definitely make sure the PCV valve is replaced at or before the 100K mark for spark plug changes. Don't want it clogged even a little bit if you are doing the breather mod. -

Sway Control Always On
WWWPerfA_ZN0W replied to Cellbine's topic in Cargo, Hauling, Roof Racks & Towing
Since I have no idea how this is accomplished on the Edge, my shot in the dark would be that the electronics are thinking the trailer is still attached. So I'd check the hitch connections carefully, and the wiring as much as you can (including for shorts/high resistance, etc.). The other item is possible reception of an automatic MFT update. Any other changes noticed? EDIT: As omar pointed out, it is a default setting, apparently one in reponse to govt requirements, per this post: http://www.explorerforum.com/forums/showpost.php?p=2738099&postcount=11 http://www.nhtsa.gov/DOT/NHTSA/Rulemaking/Rules/Associated%20Files/ESC_FR_03_2007.pdf Federal Vehicle Safety Standards ESC_FR_03_2007.pdf -
Good catch! I guess they were running short of letters for their Scrabble games. Definition of this "global" word.

I am sure Ford worked out a bulk rate for rentals, but yeah, it's hard to get a feel for the how or why of this situation.

Just throwing this out there ... problems with the ETB have been noted with the 2007-10 Edge as well according to this thread. http://www.fordedgeforum.com/topic/3835-idle-speed-fluctuations/

For those wanting to replace their "faulty" tanks now, price is still high, but check out these links: Spectra F85A - AWD - Amazon prime says 3-5 days shipping http://www.amazon.com/Spectra-Premium-F85A-Fuel-Tank/dp/B00BJXUA34/ Spectra F85B - FWD http://www.amazon.com/Spectra-Premium-F85B-Fuel-Tank/dp/B00BJXUACU/

Congrats, it's a beaut!!!

Sounds like another winning dealership to me! Glad it worked out for you, dbomb. The BG service is shop-specific, not Ford-related. Some dealers will provide this service some won't. Consider yourself lucky to have this service available at your dealer

No shame in it, if you're game, we're game

Nice work, Jake! Too bad your work has to be obscured by that Illinoisean license plate though ... The sidebyside comparo will be cool!

Certainly ONE solution, better than no solution, but sometimes finding a substitute is difficult if you bough the vehicle for value. If your vehicle is practically new, then I can see ending up even or close to it. If your vehicle is a few years old, like mine, it takes time to locate one in that price range again. Quite a bit of effort and heartache likely involved. So if a recall is issued, fix the problem, please. Don't take the vehicle away from the owner for an indefinite amount of time as a way to weary them into compliance. Now THAT is big corporation/govt tactics with teeth bared and claws out.

No you haven't. Say it again, please

Didn't get the bulb pack with, as I already had my own LED backup lights, and didn't want to fuss with the front turn signals (yet). You can enjoy Dan's YT channel: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCt4yGVOM4lkdGJ4EeNJZcUQ
