Grinding noise in MKX AWD around 40 mph
WWWPerfA_ZN0W replied to Preston4Jesus's topic in 2007 Edge & MKX
Ah, AWD! Makes one think immediately of the PTU as a culprit ... Do you have any warranty coverage on the MKX? If not, I would immediately look into changing out the PTU fluid, because it might have metal shavings in there, but looks like very early stages, so might get lucky there. Check the transmission fluid level & condition also, it should be a healthy pinkish color and free of dirt/grit. The driveshaft may be binding at certain times, do you feel any vibration when the "grinding" occurs? Noise at the wheel can be from brakes or hubs. Does the noise sound more present when turning the wheel left or right? It could be perfectly normal due to sensed wheel slippage. But since you notice it at the same wheel, if there IS something wrong, a wheel speed sensor is failing or the ABS tone ring has cracked. For the hard left turn issue: could be a PCM calibration update is needed, or a valve body or orifice cup servicing is required.- 1 reply

Shift to Park Warning when it's in Park
WWWPerfA_ZN0W replied to AmyLovesHerEdge's topic in All Wheel Drive (AWD)
Ugh, that sucks, Jim. Do you know if they adjusted the shift lever at the same time they replaced the shifter? I am sure that since you are very mildly out of warranty, you can have success working with the dealer, or if necessary, FordService to get this resolved for you. -
You've got a really good shop going there, Joe, sales AND service!

Can only put a gallon of gas in at a time
WWWPerfA_ZN0W replied to fletcher's topic in 2011 Edge & MKX
Someone had posted that there are a few small holes around the gas filler neck. Blowing compressed air into these holes should blow out the vent tube. If it doesn't seem to be a lasting solution, you could get underneath the vehicle, disconnect the coupler and blow it out from there. Info below is for a 2007 Edge, hopefully the 2011 is similar: Item Part Number Description 1 — Evaporative emission (EVAP) outlet tube-to-purge valve quick connect coupling (part of 9S284) 2 9D661A EVAP emission purge valve output tube 3 — Fresh air tube-to-vent tube quick connect coupling (part of 9S284) 4 9F931 Bundle retainer clip 5 9S284 Fuel supply tube 6 9F931 Bundle retainer clip 7 W707137 Bundle retainer clip nut 8 9S284 Fresh air tube 9 9F931 Bundle retainer clip 10 9F931 Bundle retainer clip 11 9F931 Bundle retainer clip 12 W707137 Bundle retainer clip nut 13 — Fuel vapor tube assembly-to-EVAP canister quick connect coupling (part of 9S284) 14 — EVAP purge valve outlet-to-EVAP canister quick connect coupling (part of 9S284) 15 — Fuel tank supply tube-to-fuel supply tube quick connect coupling (part of 9324) 16 9324 Fuel tank supply tube 17 9F931 Bundle retainer clip 18 9S284 Fuel vapor tube assembly 19 — Fuel tank supply tube-to-fuel pump module quick connect coupling (part of 9324) 20 9F931 Bundle retainer clip 21 — Fuel vapor tube assembly-to-fuel tank quick connect coupling (part of 9S284) 22 9F931 Bundle retainer clip 23 9G611 Fuel tank pressure transducer (FTPT) (part of 9S284) Disconnect the fresh air tube-to-vent hose quick connect coupling. -
Whining or grinding when coasting
WWWPerfA_ZN0W replied to Dave7778's topic in Brakes, Chassis & Suspension
There's a real risk that the PTU is done for You could try having it changed once more, hopefully with better results. No idea on how many bearings there are, though I faintly recall the_natrix investigating and listing some part numbers ... -

In the Market for 2013 Edge Sport, Any Reoccurring Issues?

Congrats, and welcome to Edge ownership! As they say, Happy Trails! -
Do you typically run FI cleaner through the fuel system, Prinzll? Sounds like a spark plug change as well as PCV valve change (plus air filter for all your AZ folks ) is in order!

Hope the Continentals do the trick! It is rather annoying not to be able to narrow down the cause of prominent NVH. -

WWWPerfA_ZN0W replied to robroy90's topic in Brakes, Chassis & Suspension
If it's the tires, on rotation, the noise should > in the front and < in the rear. If it's wheel bearings (and the rear WBs do go out more often), then the rotation will have little to no effect on the noise. Have the wheel bearings checked for free rotation while on the lift and emergency brake off. -

WWWPerfA_ZN0W replied to robroy90's topic in Brakes, Chassis & Suspension
Look over the reviews at Tirerack. Seems the tires do well initially but once the miles pile on (20K or more usually), the ratings really drop. Could be they were never rotated or checked for pressure etc. but in the absence of that knowledge: http://www.tirerack.com/survey/SurveyComments.jsp?&category=tire&additionalComments=y&commentStatus=P&tireMake=Sumitomo&tireModel=HTR+Sport+H%2FP&fromTireDetail=true&tirePageLocQty= Maybe you should try to find a local reputable tire shop that will allow you to test drive new tires to see if that is what you need (a 30 day guarantee or something). I have had that option available to me before. With that many miles on the tires, if there ARE problems, the tires cannot be "corrected". And you are sure that it IS road noise? Does it go up when you turn the wheel to the left vs the right (thinking wheel bearings)? Fordparts.com is the reference site for all things Ford, but when in doubt, you can always ask Benny at LevittownFordSuperCenter.com. He has a thread on here where you can post any parts questions you have, and is VERY helpful. http://www.fordedgeforum.com/topic/10937-employee-pricing-on-all-parts-accessories/page-10 -
2013 Ford Edge Limited Brake Issues
WWWPerfA_ZN0W replied to scottk's topic in Brakes, Chassis & Suspension
How much mileage on it when you picked it up? Sitting on the lot for a long time will do bad things to the brakes unless everything is serviced before being put into daily use. -
2013 Ford Edge Limited Brake Issues
WWWPerfA_ZN0W replied to scottk's topic in Brakes, Chassis & Suspension
Is the Edge used on a daily basis? The brakes need to be exercised regularly to keep the pistons and slide pins from binding. 14K is not much over 3 years! At least the slide pins should be greased regularly, once a year or more, since you live in the salt/rust belt. -
Congrats, Mrinal and welcome to the forum! Miles of smiles, may they accompany you.

Abnormal Steering on the 3.7 Sport
WWWPerfA_ZN0W replied to mcali6301's topic in Brakes, Chassis & Suspension
Does the Edge track straight while driving at speeds 60 or above, i.e., if you let go of the wheel briefly, would it continue in a straight line with the steering wheel pointed straight ahead? -
Welcome to the community, Burke, congrats on the '15 Edge! AWD? Color? Pics? Planning to leave it stock?

2008 Edge heated seat has a mind of it's own
WWWPerfA_ZN0W replied to MisterTom's topic in 2008 Edge & MKX
Probably a failed/shorting control module (located underneath the seat, IIRC). -
It's the customer service you deserve for your patience during these "hostage" negotiations.

2011 Sport FWD: Shocks or Struts (or both?)
WWWPerfA_ZN0W replied to robroy90's topic in Brakes, Chassis & Suspension
Welcome to the forum! Struts up front, shocks in the rear. Normally only need to replace the components (in pairs) on the axle with the issues. Not all 4 at the same time. Which Pirellis are you running? The Scorpion Zero's did have some issues early on. Did you notice the noise moving around when the tires were rotated? Sometime the 22" wheels crack or suffer from bead seal failure also. -
