  1. Welcome, Eric, 'gratz on the new ride! First Ford? How did you decide on it? Pics?
  2. All true, given that other drivers are paying 100% attention to driving, which, today, is 100% unlikely. Too many fun things to pay attention to, too boring to constantly worry about safety & responsibility Can you rely on them to do anything but panic? Can you rely on them to be in good enough shape to not need POWER brakes or POWER steering? Can you rely on them to RTFM? Ya, right. Intelligent collision avoidance systems of the future will help somewhat, but they cannot overcome physics. All vehicles would have to be interconnected to keep the word "safety" meaningful.
  3. Did they say if it was the instrument cluster or PATS transceiver or something similar?
  4. Have you had the vehicle battery replaced recently? How about the key fob batteries?
  5. Intelligent Oil Life Monitor ... How the vehicle calculates how much life the oil has left.
  6. I'd print out the TSBs and show them to the dealer that this is what I found on the internet, could these be the problem? Also have them check the strut mounts/bearings/spring seats. This would be the final chance for this particular dealer to fix the issue. If it does not work or they don't do anything, take it to another dealer, there is no guarantee, but at least you will have tried that route. If that also does not work out, escalate to Ford National Customer Service, maybe their Engineering folks need to come take a look. Make sure you get a case number so they are taking you seriously. You can also contact the Ford reps on this forum, FordService, for assistance.
  7. Did they say if it's because it's a topside filter engine?
  8. I am not suggesting there has been/is any irregularity, but even for warranty work, you should be getting a receipt from them for services done & parts replaced. That way you know they did what they said. They don't have to return parts to you for warranty work, and I personally wouldn't know enough to tell if they are giving me a part from my vehicle or someone else's! The washer I referred to is indeed on the halfshaft, but came to light due to issues with other MY/model line vehicles, including the Taurus, Flex, etc. You can print out the TSBs and show to the SA/mechanic, have them check. I would also strongly suggest lining up another dealership as a backup before the warranty expires (I assume it is a Ford-wide warranty?). Look up reputations/reviews on repairpal, yelp, dealerrater, edmunds, etc. TSB 14-0186_TING-POP-CLICK NOISE-FRONT HALFSHAFT.pdf tsb 13-05-14 TING-POP-CLICK NOISE - FRONT HALFSHAFT.pdf
  9. LME's MyCal does not datalog (officially). They verify their tunes on dynos/track time with test vehicles, and decide which parameters are further tweakable without negative consequences.
  10. Depends. How long do you plan to go in between changes? OEM Motorcraft synblend is fine for shorter interval/distance OCI's. Among aftermarket full synthetics, Amsoil & Royal Purple are very popular, as is Mobil 1. If you face extreme temperatures, then you may be better off going with a 0Wxx oil than a 5Wxx oil to get easier cold weather starts. I would look up a few Product Data Sheets (PDS's) for items of interest, compare them for viscosity index (stability through temp range) and Noack (volatility) at the very least. 11. Considering the age/mileage of the vehicle, it would be a good idea to check the strut mount/bearing and make sure there's no play in the spring seat. The half shalt already having been addressed (something simple as an incorrect washer can cause that sound). And, welcome!
  12. Some info on the Intelligent Oil-Life Monitor™ (IOLM): http://owner.ford.com/how-tos/vehicle-features/dashboard-instrument-cluster/intelligent-oil-life-monitor.html Intelligent Oil Life Monitor Frequently Asked Questions.pdf
  13. Nothing available at Canadian Tire? Nokian is probably available there locally, and the pricing might be better for you. If the tirerack order hasn't shipped already, it's worth checking out.
  14. The OC interval is 7,500-10,000 MILES, you are at about 6,300 (63%), so right on target for a 10,000 mile/16,000 km oil change. Lot of highway driving/conservative driving style?
  15. Were there any codes in the old PCM set before you took it to Ford? Any idea how they came to that conclusion? TIA.
  16. GT500R, was 1500 rpm the highest you could launch at without spinning tires? Tested on the road or on the track?
  17. Movement is what helps keep rust from building up, the other is regular maintenance. Being in the salt belt, you can def see the pads (and other components) get as bad as in the pic. That's why mfrs specify Mileage AND Time for service intervals ...
  18. A recent Motorweek feature on the Blizzaks: http://www.motorweek.org/features/over_the_edge/winter-driving-safety-technology/ Video starts around 7:30 at this link: http://video.pbs.org/video/2365603691/
