The PCM in the Edge is fuel-adaptive beginning in the 2011 MY. 2007-10 need not apply
-
If no assistance is forthcoming from Ford or the dealer, see if you can get the PCM rebuilt (Circuit Medics, IIRC). Anyone that is somewhat mechanically inclined can change the plugs/coils/PCV valve themselves, a trusted non-dealer shop can do it cheaper if not. Change the gasket on the (upper) intake manifold and clean throttle body at the same time. Get Motorcraft parts if you can afford them (online pricing, such as at LevittownFordSuperCenter.com, is much better than counter; RockAuto or EBay are also worth comparing).

Unless you tune the Edge, then the tuners will TELL you what fuel to use

Is your phone experiencing any issues with bluetooth or wifi or cell connectivity other than with Sync? If it is, might be worth going into System Update area and updating the Profile and PRL, then restarting the phone (a couple of times might be necessary). Hopefully the phone is far far away from having to be wiped and reset to correct issues.

If the configuration is anything like the 2011, the BCM may need to be replaced: PINPOINT TEST M: THE DRL ARE INOPERATIVE Test Step Result / Action to Take M1 CHECK THE OPERATION OF THE HEADLAMPS AND FRONT TURN LAMPS Ignition OFF. Place the headlamp switch in the ON position and activate the hazard lamp function. Do the headlamps and front turn lamps operate correctly? Yes GO to M2 . No REFER to Headlamps or Turn Signal and Hazard Lamps in this section. M2 VERIFY THE DRL OPERATION Ignition ON. Place the headlamp switch in the OFF position and deactivate the hazard lamp function. Place the gear selector lever in any gear other than PARK (P). Are the DRL illuminated? Yes The system is operating correctly. INFORM the customer of the conditions required for the DRL to operate correctly. No GO to M3 . M3 CHECK THE OPERATION OF THE HEADLAMPS Place the headlamp switch in the HEADLAMPS ON position and observe the headlamps. Do the headlamps operate correctly? Yes GO to M4 . No REFER to Headlamps in this section. M4 CHECK THE TRANSMISSION GEAR INPUT Enter the following diagnostic mode on the scan tool: PCM DataLogger. Monitor the PCM transmission gear status PID (TR) while placing the gear selector lever through all its positions. Does the PID agree with the gear selection? Yes GO to M5 . No REFER to Section 307-01 to diagnose the transmission range input. M5 CHECK THE BCM FOR DRL CONFIGURATION Enter the following diagnostic mode on the scan tool: BCM Configuration. Check the BCM configuration and make sure the DRL feature is enabled. Is the BCM DRL feature enabled Yes INSTALL a new BCM . REFER to Section 419-10 . TEST the system for normal operation. No ENABLE the DRL configuration. TEST the system for normal operation.

I have read "unofficial" accounts that AGM batteries have 50% or greater charge/discharge cycles than standard "flooded" batteries (300 vs 200, for instance). Gel cell batteries supposedly can last 3 times as long as AGMs (!), but usually are not as powerful as AGMs. Here's one mfr's take on their AGM batteries: http://www.mkbattery.com/images/VRLA_TechManual.pdf A summary of AGM factoids: http://www.surplusbattery.com/batteryimg/10_facts_about_agm_batteries.html

New Front Pads and Rotors - question
WWWPerfA_ZN0W replied to shumax's topic in Brakes, Chassis & Suspension
If the products need a specific bedding procedure (i.e., mating the pad to the rotor properly), the instructions are usually included. Otherwise, a few hard stops as enigma mentioned should work well enough. -

Your new 2016 Edge review

Wow, that's a LOT. -
I think if you keep a good maintenance schedule with the engine/transmission/brakes etc, you should be able to avoid most major issues. The odds are in your favor that the powertrain will last a good long time. Neglect WILL kill even the most modern of engines. Don't buy into the "lifetime" fluid propaganda. Don't need to use high end fluids, Motorcraft fluids are fine, just use the severe duty intervals in the owner manual. As for the AWD, the weak link is usually the PTU and the PTU seals. If you can find someone locally to R&R the PTU fluid (RDU is no problem), then really you should be golden. Not sure yet whether the design of the PTU has been updated enough to be less of a problem with the 2011-14's. Then you are down to the electronics, which I think are the real "weak link" in the 2011-14 Edge. APIM, door latch, shifter, and throttle body (so far mostly 2011 MY) ... If you buy a warranty, check the exclusions. Be sure to document your issues as best you can before approaching the dealership. Improve the odds of getting the repair you want paid for by warranty.

Haven't had any problems with the LED lighting I have installed, knock on wood. They continue to work fine, going on 2 years now. I am sure you are aware that when you buy LEDs from "overseas" sources, there is little to no quality control in most cases. Will they work properly? Will they last? Are they performing to the seller's claimed ratings? Everything is up for grabs. You have to be very patient to get the products you want. A fault in electrical parts like these can feed back into the BCM and cause expensive problems. Quality controlled products from Osram and Philips are of course some of the best, but they are also very expensive.

AGM will work fine with the Edge. It is an evolution of the simple lead acid battery where the electrolyte, instead of being free to slosh around inside, is carried by an absorbent glass mat (AGM). This makes the battery more durable, reliable, and consistent in performance. I believe you can even install it in any position but upside down, or so I have heard. The main downside might be that AGM batteries tend to be heavier than their standard counterparts. Interstate, Odyssey, Optima for lead acid type batteries. Motorcraft group 65 will fit, and you can get an 850 CCA (POWERFUL) unit in that group size, I'd go with that where you live. Group 65 is the way to go if you want heavy duty power for sure.

Hopefully the condensation issue will stay fixed with the new units
