FWD or AWD? FWD can be replaced per axle, might need to replace all depending on condition, like freebird pointed out. AWD unless you are replacing with same exact tire (brand, size, model, etc), all 4 at once. Again, all depends on condition of old tires.

You might be facing an AC High Pressure Switch issue, sometimes happens in these cases. Or maybe AC refrigerant level is low. http://www.fordedgeforum.com/topic/18985-2008-mkx-heating-up/?do=findComment&comment=139465

Looking to replace the TSS/OSS sensors on your 2007-10 Edge/MKX? So that's where the starter is buried! Very informative writeup, Zazzy, a boatload of pointers, needed especially with the FSMs being so "skimpy" for DIY'rs. Thank you! =========== EDIT 9/3/2020: since the files in the post above are now in the ether, here they are attached to this post. Sorry to hear, but it's hard to say without a more detailed description of what's going on. If the Edge is driving normally and it is a CHECK ENGINE light, then likelihood is yes, and of course, drive conservatively, with hazards on if need be. Check all fluid levels (as outlined in owner's manual), take note of any leaks/smells, etc before proceeding, sometimes it could just need some oil. They can get codes pulled for free from any major auto parts retailer like AutoZone, Advance Parts, etc. Definitely do not ignore it.

What have you done to/with your Edge/MKX today?
WWWPerfA_ZN0W replied to WWWPerfA_ZN0W's topic in Accessories & Modifications
Basic maintenance for the power steering system: drain old fluid, fill new fluid. Did 2 times, getting about 14 oz out each time, with a pump they use for gallon bottles. Drove in between the D&F to help fluid circulate. Castrol Transmax Mercon V, since it's currently on sale at Advance Auto for $4/quart (I think all varieties of Castrol ATF, maybe even the CVT fluid, are on sale there). Old fluid was med to dark brown, both in the glass container I drained into, and in the blot on a paper towel. A check before the second round, the fluid still looked brownish in the container, but pinkish red on the blot. Progress! So left it alone after the second D&F, will check after a few months, I think. Maybe get a BG flush if the fluid becomes brownish again. -

Understood. But the basic tech is the same.

Hope you don't have to lemon law your Edge, and that future analysis shows no such problems.

Here's the TSB I was referring to earlier: http://www.revbase.com/BBBMotor/TSb/DownloadPdf?id=176650 The tipoff is usually P035x codes. If the coil is cracked or has heat damage, the preferred action is to replace the PCM and all 6 coils/plugs. How did you test the fuel pressure and what readings were you getting? Engine running fuel pressure should be around 65 psi.

Congrats, sweet ride

Thank you for your service Yeah, I'd get basic maintenance out of the way. Who did the engine replacement, btw? You might want to give them a call also, see if they can give the install a once-over to make sure everything (including wiring) is set up correctly. -
Welcome to the forum, JHB, great choice of rides Hope it provides many many miles of great service! Lighting mods - consider DriveBright.com for your HID/LED needs. Post pics of the upgrades as you can, and def ask if you have questions. Search results on the forum can be a mite intimidating, but well worth the effort.

Ford claims the 6F50 is designed to handle 300 hp (224 kW) and 280 ft·lbf (380 N·m) Ford appears not to have made a public statement regarding the 6F55's maximum capabilities, but uses it in AWD in the Taurus SHO with an engine rated at 272 kW (370 PS; 365 hp)and 475 N·m (350 lb·ft) of torque (Final drive 2.77:1 standard or 3.16:1 with SHO Performance Package). Knowing that there are several tuned and modded (boltons only) SHOs that are DDs and run at 500 hp/tq levels reliably, we know the 6F55 is capable of AT LEAST that much power handling. Then again, the owners are also somewhat fanatical about routine drivetrain fluid changes. I will look for F150/3.5 related info, would be interesting to see the changes. But Ford puts a sturdier bottom end in the truck EB engines when compared to the EB engines in transverse applications. So same is possible for the NA engine as well. Just conjecture right now, tho. What I have so far: 2011 Edge blurb - http://www.myfordedge.com/specs/2011-ford-edge-powertrain.php 2015 F150 blurb - https://media.ford.com/content/fordmedia/fna/us/en/news/2014/07/22/all-new-ford-f-150-2-7liter-ecoboost-v6-engine-delivers.html

Was the 3.5L revamped after the introduction of the Ti-VCT (2011+ Edge)? Would like to read up on that if you have a link ... The transmission puts a damper on what the NA 3.5 can bring to the party. Maybe if they mated the 6F55 trans to it, we might see different results. No idea on the 3.7 or 5.0 engines, sadly lacking in knowledge there ... It is addictive to have so much torque available so early, as in the case of the Ecoboost offerings, so you can see why NA engines would be downplayed.

Ford remanufactured transmissions (3yr/unlimited mileage warranty): http://www.fordparts.com/Products/PowertrainProducts-RemanufacturedTransmissionAssemblies.aspx Pricing (before core charge) https://secure.revolutionparts.com/levittown-ford/ford/edge/8t4z7000arm/2008-year/limited-trim/3-5l-v6-gas-engine/automatic-transmission-cat/automatic-transmission-scat/?part_name=transaxle Jasper remanufactured engines & transmissions are also an excellent choice. You'd have to ask though if TC is included ... -
2008 limited AWD overdrive slips
WWWPerfA_ZN0W replied to joeskisnow's topic in All Wheel Drive (AWD)
What is the maintenance history on this Edge? How many miles? Have spark plugs and PCV valve been replaced yet? Is fuel injector cleaner used regularly? Are the throttle body and MAF cleaned regularly? When was the air filter last changed? Definitely sounds like it is hunting for a gear. You should get diagnostics done at a fullservice shop or maybe even at the dealer, they should be able to use IDS to deepdive into the powertrain. Could be needing new TSS/OSS sensors if the problem is indeed in the transmission. New fluid should be installed (Motorcraft Mercon V, or other brands CERTIFIED Mercon V would be a good start). The O/D "fix" might work for now, but that will also stop working in due time. Maybe the torque converter is not locking up properly, in which case, the TC could need R&R. You can watch TC activity using an OBD code reader and Forscan software on a smartphone/tablet (Android/iOS/Windows). A cheaper fix might be wheel speed sensors, but that is more likely to throw a wrench light. I hate to mention the PTU/driveshaft/RDU, but you gotta have those looked at to see if the fluids are maybe gummed up and/or leaking. Take it to a BG shop and they can figure out the driveline for you (look for shops with the driveline service symbol). http://bgfindashop.com -
It's also marketing & packaging. More attention is paid to the Ecoboost lineup now that Ford has a firm grip on mass-market turbo tech, which is a good thing But the naturally aspirated engines are at the same time NOT being put on equal footing, in essence making them a generation or generation(s) behind, especially when you consider the transmissions they are mated with.

Yes! If I had any gripes, it would be that space is a bit tight to DIY, but that is the curse of modern cars in general There are other threads discussing the 3.5L, you might want to browse through those also, for example: http://www.fordedgeforum.com/topic/20069-20-l-ecoboost-or-35-l-v6/ http://www.fordedgeforum.com/topic/11767-ecoboost-vs-35l-v6/ http://www.fordedgeforum.com/topic/17963-if-reliability-is-main-concern20-ecoboost-or-35-v6/ http://www.fordedgeforum.com/topic/9180-35-v6-vs-20-ecoboost/
