  1. you mean lightweight shockproof? yes it is safe to use. many owners are running with it in the PTU and RDU now with no issues. can't speak for 2019+ of course. data is still pending.
  2. follow MACT videos on power steering fluid flush. You work the steering wheel lock to lock to get air out of the system. https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCJb7karK2nhyA7G1BW6xESg/videos
  3. Get the tool. Many alternatives available on Amazon, possibly RockAuto. Don't have to get Ford/Motorcraft. $30-35 USD typically. Yes it can be done without the cam holders, with regular tools. Not sure exactly how, but many have done so. Definitely do NOT advise doing the work without holding the cams in place. Can't tell you how much time people have wasted by skipping this step, and how much of a headache it becomes. Most owners are doing this type of work for the first time in their lives. Take that into consideration.
  4. works fine for me. you have to download it, it will not open in a browser. 2010 Edge Power Steering Pump to Steering Gear Pressure Line.pdf
  5. max tow capacity is 3500 lbs. stay under that and you are good. if you tow regularly, you will want to follow the special operating conditions fluid change intervals. basically cut your normal intervals in half. https://drive.google.com/file/d/14Jknpm6O-vI78rIqstx9xiCG84ClgoEQ/view?usp=sharing
  6. assuming 3.5 engine. check if the fans are working properly. common for the driverside (A/C controlled) fan to fail after a few years. If this is the case, replace preferably with a motorcraft assembly. keep the old module, as it may still be good. usually, brushes in the fan motor fail. difficult to get repaired inexpensively in the USA, but not uncommon elsewhere in the world.
  7. An electronics repair shop may be worth approaching. Mostly we hear about condensation issues with these lights!
  8. the purge valve should hold vacuum when tested. if it does not, it is bad. i would replace it anyway. especially if it misbehaves right after a fillup.
  9. Did they replace the purge valve? Do you have trouble starting the engine right after a fillup? Yu should get your own OBDII adapter and Forscan Lite software to have more ability to monitor the health of your vehicle yourself.
  10. i would try reading codes again. how is the engine oil doing - level and condition? do you see any puffs of smoke out the exhaust ... idling/driving? any propane type smells in the cabin?
  11. check with your Ford dealer to see if they will pull up an OASIS history report for you, or at least check it to see if your vehicle was ever repaired under this program.
  12. masking tape has been used to protect the hood and body panels of cars being driven long distance to car shows. keeps bugs from ruining the finish. absolutely worthwhile ?
  13. some gaffes in his videos regarding specific numbers for non F150 vehicles, but overall great info
  14. are you the original owner of this vehicle? has it ever had the leak issue? https://drive.google.com/file/d/1E--xAMZnLwIwC1So4aJcPdOOCJbGEzAb/view?usp=sharing Check the battery with a digital tester like a Solar BA9 to be sure. CCAs are important.
  15. you have to have loss of traction in essence to engage the rear wheels in this AWD system. this is not fulltime AWD, only on demand/as needed. you can track the AWD behavior using Forscan Lite and an OBD adapter on your smartphone/tablet. there is no display for it until 2015MY IIRC. how many miles on your Edge? maintenance history on the PTU and RDU? yes, the fluids need to be maintained. the PTU is a gear driven unit, the RDU has an electronically controlled clutch that determines how much power is sent to it.
  16. may need to clean all the sensors along the intake. oil can affect performance. usually only a problem when the filter is recharged. what filter model # did you install? use MAF sensor cleaner to clean the sensors. can try a KAM reset also if it has not been many miles since you installed the new MC filter.
  17. anything can be damaged, plastic, metal, rubber, etc. the problem was the coating they used in the early gen 1 vehicles on the inside of the crossover tube. it did not work well with the OEM Gold coolant, and would flake off and clog the heater core. so Ford went to Specialty Green recommendation instead of Gold if there was a heater core problem, plus changing the damaged crossover tube. if you have no heat issues and the temperature is even at all outlets, you don't have to worry about the crossover tube. my 07 has not had a problem so far (now i have jinxed it lol).
  18. because you have a thermostat in between. so coolant stays in engine block and you get about 1/2 of total capacity out with each drain/fill with thermostat in place. top up the fluid with new 50/50 or premixedfluid, drive the vehicle or leave it running with cabin heat on for 30 minutes to completely mix the old/new fluids. Repeat drain/fills 3 more times. done.
  19. my brother's degrees are in chemical and electrical engineering, but he doesn't like to be handson with electronics lol. he did what he had to when he was a "sales engineer" with a wellknown printer company and had to be in the field often delivering and servicing their equipment. seems like you and your dad have the gumption to get in there and get it done. looking forward to your notes on this project.
  20. most people do LED updates nowadays due to the sheer ease and improving quality of products available. HID is still king in the light output quality area. https://bulbfacts.com HID revolution on YouTube have comparisons that will give you a direction to go.
  21. I have found being an engineer and actually repairing electronics are two different skill sets LOL. But if you are willing to try, you can certainly repair the PCM yourself, you seem to have enough handson experience to do it. Testing the drivers is very straightforward: COILS JB9 CHECK THE SECONDARY COIL RESISTANCE FOR THE MISSING CYLINDERS Ignition OFF. Suspect coil connector disconnected. Measure resistance between: Suspect coil connector, IGN START/RUN, component side and ignition coil spring, located in the ignition coil boot. Is the resistance between 5,000 and 6,000 ohms? Yes No GO to Pinpoint Test Z . INSTALL a new COP. Clear the PCM DTCs. REPEAT the self-test. DRIVERS JF5 CHECK THE SUSPECT COIL DRIVER CIRCUIT FOR AN OPEN IN THE HARNESS Ignition OFF. PCM connector disconnected. Suspect coil connector disconnected. Measure the resistance between: ( + ) PCM Connector, Harness Side ( - ) COP Connector, Harness Side Suspect coil driver COP Is the resistance less than 5 ohms? Yes No GO to JF6 . REPAIR the open circuit. Clear the PCM DTCs. REPEAT the self-test. JF6 CHECK THE SUSPECT COIL DRIVER CIRCUIT FOR A SHORT TO VOLTAGE IN THE HARNESS Ignition ON, engine OFF. Measure the voltage between: ( + ) PCM Connector, Harness Side ( - ) Vehicle Battery Suspect coil driver Negative terminal Is the voltage less than 1 V? Yes No GO to JF7 . REPAIR the short circuit. Clear the PCM DTCs. REPEAT the self-test. JF7 CHECK THE SUSPECT COIL DRIVER CIRCUIT FOR A SHORT TO GROUND IN THE HARNESS Ignition OFF. Measure the resistance between: ( + ) PCM Connector, Harness Side ( - ) Vehicle Battery Suspect coil driver Negative terminal Is the resistance greater than 10K ohms? Yes No GO to JF14 . REPAIR the short circuit. Clear the PCM DTCs. REPEAT the self-test. If the concern or DTC is still present, GO to JF8 . as to worth, i can't say, not knowing the vehicle's condition at time of purchase, the maintenance history, or how long she intends to keep it. i WILL say, all fluids need to be changed immediately to get a good start. if you hear any rattles at startup, that is a warning that the timing system/water pump need to R&R'd not too far down the road, usually around a 1500-2000$ job. if it is an AWD vehicle, then you will have to check the condition of the PTU, driveshaft, and RDU.
  22. have you also replaced the PCV valve & cleaned the MAF sensor/throttle body?
