  1. Sometimes just going 1 size wider can be a saving$. Keep your option open.
  2. Do the rpms fluctuate but the engine seems unaffected? could be torque converter. AWD? Shudder/chatter on inclines can be a PTU.
  3. February 27, 2017 NHTSA Campaign Number: 17V123000 Frontal Air Bag may not Deploy Properly/FMVSS 208 (Ford 17C02) MAKE MODEL YEAR FORD EDGE 2016-2017 LINCOLN CONTINENTAL 2017 LINCOLN MKX 2016-2017 During deployment, if the air bag does not fully inflate or the cushion detaches, there is an increased risk of injury in the event of a crash. NHTSA Campaign Number: 17V123000 Manufacturer Ford Motor Company Components AIR BAGS Potential Number of Units Affected 27,531 Summary Ford Motor Company (Ford) is recalling certain 2016-2017 Ford Edge and Lincoln MKX vehicles and 2017 Lincoln Continental vehicles. In the event of a crash, the driver's frontal air bag may not fully inflate or the air bag cushion may detach from the air bag module. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) number 208, "Occupant Crash Protection." Remedy Ford will notify owners, and dealers will replace the driver frontal air bag module, free of charge. Remedy parts are not currently available. Owners will be notified of the safety recall in March 2017. Owners will receive a second notice when remedy parts are available, currently expected to be in August 2017. Owners may contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332. Ford's number for this recall is 17C02. Notes Owners may also contact the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153), or go to www.safercar.gov. 5. Welcome, wissam, glad they took care of you!
  6. Famous lines from Jurassic Park: John: "I am not making the same mistakes again." Ian: "No, you are making all new ones."
  7. Hey mac, can you get your mfr buddies to analyze the seals, see if they indeed benefit from motorcraft fluid vs aftermarket as is rumored?
  8. Since Ecoboost engines enter closed loop within 30 seconds, it shouldn't be a fueling issue, especially if the engine is warmed up. City driving WILL kill mileage despite the ECO label Best bet is to be patient a while longer (as mentioned) to see if the situation improves. Other than that, you can check to see if any codes are set in the PCM. Check all fluid levels, engine oil, transmission fluid in particular. Yes, there is a small dip in mileage due to ethanol blending, but nothing significant. Winter gas does reduce 5%-10% typically, compared to summer gas. Definitely want to use Top Tier gas for Ecoboost engines to keep the fuel system & combustion chamber clean.
  9. Do you reset the mpg/trip meters at every fuelup? It's hard to get "accurate" results otherwise. EDIT: I had no problems getting 34 mpg out of my 91 Saturn SL1 either! The CMAX is a hybrid? It also weighs 700 lbs less than the Edge.
  10. Possibly in place to induce high swirl, like they used to do on the 1980s High Swirl Combustion engines?
  11. I have heard the fans spin down after shutoff, if they were running before shutoff, but it's quick, and I have to be in an enclosed space to hear them (if hood is closed). The question is whether that 2-3 mile drive was from a cold start? The fans shouldn't even come on unless the HVAC/climate control is activated in such a short distance. If the drive is very stop & go, heavy traffic type, or if the happy pedal is used too often, then ok. Have you checked to see if the AC works as expected? I would highly recommend getting familiar with the "basics" of how your car is behaving. I use an OBD II adapter (OBDLink MX Bluetooth) and Forscan Lite on Android to monitor the Edge. You will be able to tell when the fans come on, how much they are in use, when they shut off, etc. Also the temp gauge is kind of an "idiot" gauge, you will need software to tell what is actually going on with coolant temps. Stock thermostats start to open around 188F, and are fully open around 208-210F.
  12. As long as you change the coolant within the next 60K!
  13. Welcome to the forum? How about pics of the dynamic duo :camera:
  14. Reviews ... meh ... SMH. Ever since internet reviews have become a "thing", I have tried to rely on known good reviewers only, those with a history and a history of consistency. IF you believed the reviews, you would not buy an Edge simply because Sync Stinks LOL ... The value of the Sport should be looked at as a package: wheels, suspension, engine, etc. If value is most important to you, the SE/SEL is a good choice. I chose the SEL because it had just the right amount of gadgetry. In my 2007, I do not have automatic climate control, no APIM, no Sync, nothing. Pretty barebones by today's standards. Do I miss any of it? well ... no! Maybe I would like a power liftgate one day ... If you service the pano roof regularly, it will be a great additional feature. I would make sure of my glass coverage with the insurance co though. Besides all that, the usual stuff: make sure all recalls have been completed, get an extended warranty (my recommendation) from Ford online dealerships at least for a year while you figure out the daily in-outs, and get the vehicle inspected by an independent trusted mechanic who will look over/under the car prior to purchase if at all possible. Run the climate controls to make sure they work properly, and that no smells enter the cabin upon hard acceleration.
  15. Any insight into why, Waldo? Is it a hardware or a programming issue?
  16. Have you unplugged the electrical connector? If there is moisture/rust/corrosion, dry it & clean it out, apply some dielectric grease and reconnect. See if it makes a difference. If it does, the problem could be electrical. A revision, meaning a PCM calibration update? That would still likely point to a mechanical failure because the electrical connections remain the same, only the mechanical operation of the valve is altered. Alternatively, the valve could already be failing, and the changes/wash simply pushed it over the edge, or be a total coincidence.
  17. 2015, and then only on the Sport that I know of. 2007-14 have no drain plugs, sorry.
  18. You are looking at a used engine with warranty, or a really low mileage engine? 6K seems too high, but prices could have gone up ... A site that may help locate http://www.car-part.com/cgi-bin/search.cgi The 3.5 (VCT, not Ti-VCT) was used in many model lines, but you would likely have to swap all electronic components from the Edge to the "new" engine, as it is hard to tell exactly what might be different if you pick from non-Edge vehicles.
  19. Winter gas? Then your "real" mileage would have been at least 22. You did a bunch of service too recently, right? Would you mind summarizing all that in a post, pretty please? Incidental miles tend to kill mileage!
  20. Stick with OEM for best results. Dorman or TYC might also work, but watch for loose/reversed connections. Also, don't throw away the old control module until you have the new setup working right, for a while. Aftermarket modules can be ... unreliable ... sometimes.
  21. I think you make a good case enigma, just wanted to add that the difference in generations issue ... isn't. Further details to be revealed by macbwt.
  22. Good question. Statistically, it has been mechanical failure. This is a very busy device, and if you don't use good fuel, you can send it to an early grave.
