  3. Jack up the passenger side (put it on a stand), take off the wheel, wheel well liner, then you can see pretty much all you are going to see. Don't need to see all of it, usually the wear will show throughout the belt run. Have a STRONG light handy. Look for belt wear as illustrated below. There were cracks on mine, and to me the belts looked a bit glazed. If you live in such an area, might easily have to cut the inspection/replacement interval in half.
  4. Awesomeness! Nick Halstead and FEWW were the first to source these braces for the Edge (starting with Gen 1.5) IIRC. Wish we had active options for the rear sways too.
  5. Wow. Know the exact part number of this "new" assembly by any chance? You may indeed have received an older revision.
  6. The thermostat will really only affect conditions when you drive short distances, or at speeds above 40ish mph. in short distance driving, the passive cooling activates earlier, so it may take longer to reach stock operating temperature. Above 40ish mph is also mostly governed by passive cooling, as the radiator is sufficient to keep the coolant temps down. If you activate the cooling fans due to A/C, then without a tune, they will operate under OEM logic. Again, the difference will be more like a bump in the road vs falling off a cliff. The TStat is only opening the door a little earlier. It has no Mr. Freeze magical powers.
  7. If the groove is visible but not nail-snaggable, I would not worry about it. It won't "buff out" necessarily, but should not be detrimental to braking performance.
  8. How many miles on your Edge? I am pretty sure the plugs and coil pack would have been necessary anyway, prevents damage to the PCM.

  11. Might just need new clips, as already surmised. Make sure the backing plates are seated correctly, the slide pins are moving freely, and that the noise dampeners (on the rear only?) are in place. Also recheck wheel lugnut torque, as well as for bent dust shields.
  12. That's my point. The colder TStat gives you a good starting point when you check from a cold start. If you are already beyond the opening point of the OEM TStat, then it depends on the programming. Is it OEM programming, you know the fans turn on at 210F or after. If it is custom programming, the fans may turn as many degrees earlier as the colder TStat is compared to OEM TStat. Or the fans may run at a low level all the time after the TStat opens, and just ramp up as needed. All kinds of strategies, that can ONLY be exploited with a custom tune. The tune doesn't even have to change anything but fan behavior to take full advantage of the colder TStat. And yes, it does help in HOT climates. If you are running a hi-performance tune, you will likely want to control the engine temps very closely to extract the most power. And guess what, maximum power is NOT made when the engine is running "hot" ...

  14. Looks like a satellite radio related error, from a Google search. Possibly from water damage? I would check the PCM harnesses and the passenger compartment fuses in particular to see if they are clean & dry. Stability Control Sensor Cluster The stability control sensor cluster consists of the yaw rate sensor, roll-rate sensor, lateral accelerometer and longitudinal accelerometer. The lateral accelerometer measures the acceleration which corresponds to the force involved when the vehicle slides sideways. This acceleration has 2 forms. The first is the centrifugal acceleration which is generated when the vehicle travels around in a circle. The second is the acceleration due to gravity. On level ground there is no contribution from this acceleration. However, if the vehicle is parked sideways on a bank or incline, the sensor measures some lateral acceleration due to gravity even though the vehicle is not moving. The longitudinal accelerometer measures the acceleration corresponding to the force involved when the vehicle moves forward and rearward in the horizontal plane, along the centerline of the front and rear wheels. The yaw rate sensor measures the relative vehicle motion about the vertical axis through its center of gravity. The roll-rate sensor measures the rate of rotation along the front to rear horizontal axis. Might be located under the rear seat, passenger side, from the looks of the diagram on a 2009.
  15. Not sure I understand? Do you mean open loop vs closed loop? DI engines go into closed loop within 30 seconds of startup, hardly enough time for the engine to warm up to operating temperature. This is part of their fuel saving and emissions improvement strategy. Not an issue at all. A CEL has been known to come on in 1or two cases, due to a trapped air bubble or faulty TStat. 99.5% of the time it has worked great. Getting those air pockets out takes a little perseverance, but persistence pays. That is the best I can do to reassure you, but of course, it is your decision.

  20. I was able to easily get 24+ mpg at "midwest" speeds in a 2016 Titanium 3.5 with 2 people + luggage (rental, unknown gas quality), and 25+ with Shell 87. And yes, there were numerous bottlenecks due to construction, so not all highway. I would imagine, an Ecoboost equipped Edge, especially when tuned, could achieve 30 mpg under similar conditions. They do it on the SHO all the time. Of course, they are also usually running premium.
  21. 3 years in a moderate climate is "normal" nowadays. Less time in extremes, esp. HOT climates. that's why it is better to go with AGM batteries if you want longer lived/deeper cycling batteries. Very easy for Gen 1.5 owners to get an upgrade, since the battery size is easily available (group 65, I think). Odyssey if you can afford, otherwise many other nice but lowercapacity AGM offerings.
  22. ya, that's why i am thinking it may be cheaper for them to just replace, and send the old part off for "remanufacturing". But I am not sure how the corporate Ford beancounter mindset works LOL.
