  1. You looked at the Bluetooth version? The Wifi one is indeed terrible. The Wifi ones I would use are Veepeak / vGate / iCar brands. They worked the best for me. There IS another one, BAFX, but it died on me and macbwt. So I can't recommend that one.
  2. I use the Scantool OBDLink MX Bluetooth adapter (for my Android devices) in combination with the Forscan Lite for Android/iOS software. Ideally you would get an SCT X4 or similar tuning device to really dive into the PIDs, but the cost differential is substantial. About 85$ or less (with a different adapter) vs $300. So if you want to test the waters, start with a Veepeak/iCar/vGate adapter (typically in the 20$ range), add the Forscan Lite software. Buy Wifi for compatibility with both Android/iOS devices. I prefer Bluetooth with the OBDLink, and dedicate the device to monitoring, but you don't have to. If you are using Bluetooth with Sync etc, you will want to get a WiFi adapter instead. Start with simpler PIDs like RPM, Vehicle Speed, Coolant Temperature, Transmission Fluid Temperature, etc. just to get a feel for it. If the software shows you an option with OBD in the name, that is the generic OBD PID. Check to see if there is a Ford specific PID first, no OBD in the name of it.
  3. Classic signs of a blocked evap drain. Look behind the carpet on the driver side of the center console, near the gas pedal. You will see a tube with a joint. this is the evap drain. Have a catchbasin handy for the flood of water that will follow when you disconnect the upper half of the tube. After that, blow some compressed air through the lower tube. Can o Air should work fine. Do this a couple of times, and then every change of season to keep the drain clear. If you don't unblock the drain you will end up throwing water into the blower motor and then have to replace that as well. Not difficult to do, buy why waste money.
  4. LME will adjust shift pressures if you ask them. They have done it quite frequently on the 3.5EB platform. Also, they recommend "overfilling" the trans fluid by maybe a pint or so to keep cavitation from happening. Might be worth asking if this applies to the 2.7EB also. With aggressive tunes, I like to run a bit more octane than the tuner specifies. Ecoboosts like their cushions LOL.
  5. Nope, once the PCM is wonky, you have to fix both the PCM AND the coils. No 2 ways about it. Or you are going to ruin the new coils pretty quickly coz the PCM is malfunctioning. Coils in Gen 1.5 seem to last a good long time, I have no idea what the difference is ... I will have to look at the wiring diagrams. Theoretically, with 60K plug changes, the coils should last in Gen 1 also forever, practically. Same with fuel injectors & using good fuel/periodic (but not overdoing) cleaners. Gotta remember, if the brain gets affected, what it tells you won't be reliable, IF it tells you anything. This used to happen on the Gen 1/2 SHOs all the time. So no codes is not a reliable indicator in this instance. I suppose you could check coil resistance to gauge if there is an issue in this area. But no one has proven this as a diagnostic yet. Sorry I do not have a better answer for you. But both coils and PCM need to be validated/fixed/replaced.
  6. What is the pricing for the 401A option from Ford? I see $3,345 for a 2017 build. I would also consider widening the search radius, use autotrader.com or cars.com to help you find the Edge you want. Possibly use the lower price as a bargaining tool with the dealer near you. EDIT: Try these listings https://www.autotrader.com/cars-for-sale/New+Cars/SUV+~+Crossover/2016/Ford/Edge/Cedar+Rapids+IA-52401?endYear=2016&keywordPhrases=technology&listingTypes=new&makeCodeList=FORD&modelCodeList=EDGE&searchRadius=0&showcaseOwnerId=575822&sortBy=derivedpriceASC&startYear=2016&trimCodeList=EDGE%7CSport&vehicleStyleCodes=SUVCROSS&Log=0
  7. welcome, edge_st, I am sure the members here will help you out! I just looked at what the 401a pkg includes: Equipment Group 401A – Technology Package includes voice-activated Navigation System with pinch-to-zoom capability, and integrated SiriusXM® Traffic and Travel Link® with 5-year trial subscription, BLIS® (Blind Spot Information System) with crosstraffic alert, Remote Start System, auto-dimming driver’s sideview mirror, and 110-volt power outlet + Lane-Keeping System + enhanced active park assist with side parking sensors + front 180-degree camera with washer + HID headlamps with auto high beams + rain-sensing windshield wipers + heated and cooled front seats + heated rear outboard seats Seems like a lot of value in that package to me, most of it easily foreseen as usable everyday. Remote Start, HID, heated/cooled seats, adaptive cruise, ... oh yea gimme all that Now price, hope you have wiggle room on that, or can bargain it down a bit, but I feel it's not a "puff" package by any means.
  8. CCAs, not voltage, is the important info on the battery. BUT, there could well be a parasitic draw somewhere also.
  9. They do say to recheck the torque on the bolts after a few days of driving. Sometimes leaks will develop and you end up doublegasketing to keep it tight.
  10. I don't anticipate issues either, looks like a good install, but once a DIY mod is made, you do have to inspect every so often to make sure it is holding

  13. Welcome, TFW, and congrats on the new ride. Hopefully the Edge Sport will delight in enough ways to take the sting out not having a Cobra!
  14. Well, to be fair, in their letter to the gov, Ford said Owners will receive a second notice when remedy parts are available, currently expected to be in August 2017 So be patient with them
  15. Def call up circuitboardmedics first. Your Edge will be out of commission as a result for a few days, so you will need an alternate ride in the meantime. TBH, I doubt the dealership checked the valve body/SBA. But I hope they did. Can always ask LOL.
  16. Might be better off with a DEI mat for the battery. Keep the battery from getting too hot/cold. Just a thought.
  17. Welcome and congrats, jetmech76! Please post pics of your rides, old & new
  18. Front snorkel mods are popular, and they work. There is obviously some concern with water intrusion, but time will tell. Also keep an eye on the insulation, I know you said high quality, but is it wind-tunnel proven? Insulation is a great idea, just not sure I would be using a mat like that. Good work overall, great pics!
  19. Certainly you can, for example if the MAF sensor is not doing its' job (not to oversimplify). Then the engine does not have the correct data to command the right action at the right time. I had to replace the MAF sensor on my Edge recently. Cleaning the heck out of the OEM sensor did not restore any performance. I was also getting errant shifting, along with some loss in throttle response. There are also adaptive tables in the TCM (trans control module) that may benefit from clearing. This can be done with IDS or pro level scan tools. Apparently this did not work for you, sadly. When you did the TSS/OSS, did you check the valve body to make sure it was clean/undamaged? Seeing more & more of those needing to be serviced. How about the solenoid body assembly? If the fluid has remained clean throughout, we can likely rule out actual clutch/gear damage.
  20. The difference should still be significant, but the cutoffs and the HID "look" may not be there. I am speaking based on the 2011-14 halogen to HID upgrades that I have seen. I cannot speak for the optics of the 2015+ headlamps, as I have yet to see any detailed comparisons. An upgraded halogen bulb may suffice depending on the output of the original bulb. If you have a 1350 lumen bulb, then yeah, going to a 1900 lumen bulb makes a big difference. But if you really want that bluishwhite look of HID, note that the OEM HID is typically around 4300K in color temp, but most aftermarket kits will be 5000K or 6000K. Of course recommend the 5000K for best combination of color and usable light. Here is macbwt's video on the results of his HID upgrade in projector headlamps (2011 Edge) with a drivebright kit Maybe he can get you some updated night shots of the HIDs in action They did enable him to save some wildlife!
  21. Sample pics of an HID assembly here FT4Z-13008-N http://www.ebay.com/itm/USED-FORD-EDGE-OEM-HEAD-LIGHT-HEADLIGHT-LAMP-HEADLAMP-XENON-damaged-15-16-RH-/252686653134 Halogen headlamp here FT4Z-13008-F http://www.ebay.com/itm/2015-2016-Ford-Edge-LH-Driver-Side-Halogen-Headlamp-Light-Assembly-new-OEM-/272485862492 Yes different part numbers, HID is 50% higher in pricing than halogen. Even on gen 1.5, the halogen/HID headlamps are different.
  22. I used to see lots of drafting behind semis when driving on 95 through SC, mostly to avoid the police tho I think.
