2014 Edge + Ford Fitted Hitch
WWWPerfA_ZN0W replied to Richdem's topic in Cargo, Hauling, Roof Racks & Towing
Engine oil does not run through the radiator, and transmission fluid has its own cooler. -
Extended Warranty ... Hmmmm .... Regardless, the fact is that turbocharging has not come as far as Ford has marketed it as having. This is compounded by the problems with GDI technology, emissions requirements, packaging, etc. There is a lot of cool tech in Ecoboost engines, but longevity for the turbo is best achieved by NOT using it all the time. Most of the cost of replacing the turbo is labor not parts. True for the 2.0 and for the rear turbo in the 3.5 EB.
-
Sorry to hear. Unfortunately, these failures continue to happen. And it seems like 80,000 miles is right about where it dies on the 2.0 ... Did they say why? Seal failure? The 2.0 in particular is a "dirty" engine and "eats" through oil rather quickly. So extended oil change intervals are not a good idea, nor is using anything but a good quality full synthetic oil with low volatility #s.
-
So ... how's it feel with new injectors & all? Fingers crossed, this will be the last of it for a while!
-
Glad to hear! Just make sure there is no scar tissue buildup in/near the muscle. The impact of that is felt further down the road, best not to let it happen/grow.
-
I would assume they would have benchtesting routines that obviate the need for a vehicle to be present.
-
Take the TPS sensor off the throttle body, check for wear and carbon tracking. But could indeed be the start of a brake booster situation. Have not heard of fuel injectors failing on the 2011+ yet, but there's always a first. Same with fuel pump (non-Ecoboost for both). How is the door latch situation on your Edge, btw?

2014 Edge + Ford Fitted Hitch
WWWPerfA_ZN0W replied to Richdem's topic in Cargo, Hauling, Roof Racks & Towing
Are you asking about the post 2009 setup? Presumably the radiator & fans combine for greater coolant cooling capacity and indirectly better transmission cooler performance. Without a separate oil cooler, engine oil temp would be wholly dependent on how well the engine is running rather than on coolant alone. -

The oil cooler, mounted to the oil filter adapter, used engine coolant for cooling, from looking at the diagrams. -
Probably offering synblend as standard, as per the manual. But yes full synthetic is still the preferred oil for Ecoboost powerplants.

They seem to have stopped mentioning the oil cooler in the 2009MY, perhaps it became standard or taken out altogether? -
90$ for gaskets??? Wow! Considering only the upper intake manifold gasket may need to be replaced. $300 for the whole thing does sound good

The factory tow package includes a larger radiator, an engine oil cooler, different fans, and sway control in addition to the hitch and wiring harness. Not sure what all your dealer installed, do you have the invoice handy? 1 7T4Z-8005-A Radiator EDGE; W/ TRAILER TOWING PKG. $183.63 $137.26 1 9T4Z-8C607-A Fan Assembly 3.5 LITER, W/ TRAILER PKG $496.60 $314.10 Oil cooler similar to 7T4Z6A642A (this fits 2007-9 Edge/MKX at least) -
Not sure which type of QD coupling is on the fuel rail. Most of the types listed in the manual do not need a tool, one (Type IV) does to remove ... My suspicion would be yes just because it is a fuel rail, but can't be sure. 2007 Edge MKX Quick Connect Coupling.pdf

Cool! And thanks for updating

If the overheating is due to the proximity of the exhaust system, the internal temp of the PTU won't much matter. Would have liked to hear back from the folks who put in shields, even though it would not be conclusive data.
-
There are vents atop the PTU and RDU, yes, they look like stubs and if the fluid level exceeds their height, it will flow out onto the PTU & whatnot. Not sure what vent lines you are referring to tho.

What have you done to/with your Edge/MKX today?

Once the Oh S*** moment passes and the Glory shines, it's a great feeling! Well done, and thanks for documenting. -
True enough. Hopefully it is one and done. I suppose you could verify the injector and not the circuit is the problem, only suggestion i have. https://www.obd-codes.com/p0202

5x114.3 same pattern as 2007-10. Center bore is different at 63.4 vs 70.6 for 2007-10.

Would like Ford to publicly own up to that definition.
